Arrow Angel Heart/Live and Let Die

The film is adapted from the novel Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg, and is generally faithful to the novel with the exceptions being the introduction of a child of Epiphany Proudfoot conceived at a voodoo ceremony by "a devil"...

Louis Cyphre, a pseudonym for Lucifer, appears in Margaret's living room and tells him that Winesap is dead, and that he has known Angel's true identity since the beginning; he has come to collect because of Favorite's attempt to break the contract. Angel refuses to believe him and is convinced that Cyphre is merely posing as the devil and trying to frame him for the murders. Cyphre exposes his true self and unleashes Angel's repressed memories of killing Fowler, Toots, and the Krusemarks in a fugue state induced by Cyphre. When Cyphre disappears, Angel runs back to his hotel and finds the police in his bedroom, looking over the body of Epiphany, who was killed with his pistol and is wearing his dog tags. With Johnny finally remembering the truth, and since he will be executed for the murders, Cyphre can at last claim what is his... Favorite's immortal soul.

A Harlem drug lord known as Mr. Big plans to distribute two tons of heroin free to put rival drug barons out of business. Mr. Big, however, is revealed to be the disguised alter ego of Dr. Kananga, a corrupt Caribbean dictator, who rules San Monique, the fictional island where the heroin poppies are secretly farmed. Bond is investigating the death of three British agents, leading him to Kananga, where he is soon trapped in a world of gangsters and voodoo as he fights to put a stop to the drug baron's scheme.

Inside Solitaire's house, Bond uses a stacked tarot deck of cards, that show only "The Lovers", to trick her into thinking that seduction is in her future, and then seduces her. Solitaire loses her ability to foretell the future when she loses her virginity to Bond and is forced into cooperating with Bond to bring down Kananga...Kananga asks Bond if he has slept with Solitaire. When he finds out that he has, Kananga turns Solitaire over to Baron Samedi to be sacrificed, as her ability to read tarot cards is gone. Meanwhile, Kananga's one-armed henchman, Tee Hee Johnson, leaves Bond to be eaten by crocodiles at a farm in the Louisiana backwoods.

Back in San Monique, Bond rescues Solitaire from the voodoo sacrifice with a .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver and throws Samedi into a coffin of snakes...

Arrow Dock Green "Evening all"

Dixon of Dock Green was a popular BBC television series that ran from 1955 to 1976, and later a radio series. Despite being a drama series, it was initially produced by the BBC's light entertainment department.

Beginning in 1955 and finally ending in 1976, Dixon of Dock Green was a popular series although its hominess would later become a benchmark to measure the "realism" of police series such as Z-Cars and The Bill.

Z-Cars (pronounced "Zed Cars", sometimes written as Z Cars) is a British television drama series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby in the outskirts of Liverpool in Merseyside. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978.

The Blue Lamp is a British crime film released in early 1950 by Ealing Studios, directed by Basil Dearden and produced by Michael Balcon. It stars Jack Warner as police constable George Dixon, Jimmy Hanley and Dirk Bogarde in an early role. It was the progenitor of the long-running television series Dixon of Dock Green (even though Dixon's murder is the central plot of the original film).

Paddington Green Police Station is located in Paddington, central London, England.High-profile terrorist suspects arrested across the UK are often taken to Paddington Green Police Station for interrogation, and holding until escorted to a Court of Law. Suspects who have been held there include members of the IRA, the British nationals released from Guantanamo Bay, and the 21 July 2005 London bombers.

Initially, Dixon continued in the same role as in the film The Blue Lamp, a constable based at the fictitious Dock Green police station in the East End of London, which replaced Paddington Green police station from the film. The character of Andy Mitchell, the young constable in the film who embarks on a perilous quest to find and bring Tom Riley to justice, became a detective named Andy Crawford (Peter Byrne), in the CID at Dock Green, and he was married to Dixon's 23-year-old daughter, Mary, in the 19th episode, Father-in-Law (1st Sept 1956).

By the final years of the series in the 1970s, Warner was getting elderly and looking increasingly implausible even in a desk job (as he had increasing difficulty moving about, helped slightly by a treatment involving bee stings).

Quote:
An old hermit walked around the village and the area day and night, and even in daylight still carried a lit lantern. One day the villagers had enough curiosity to ask him "Sir, why do you carry your lantern lit in daylight?" He said, "Because I'm searching for an honest man.

Arrow Scanners

In the film, "scanners" are people with unusual telepathic and telekinetic powers. ConSec corporation searches out scanners to use them for its own purposes...

Scanners are people with the ability to read ("scan") other people's thoughts (telepathy), and the power to cause things to happen simply by thinking about them (telekinesis). ConSec, a purveyor of weaponry and security systems, searches out and captures scanners, ostensibly to protect the public from them, but actually to use them for its own nefarious purposes.

Most scanners are unhappy people, condemned to "hearing" an unstoppable flood of strangers' thoughts. Cameron Vale has uncommonly powerful scanning abilities but cannot handle the pressure and has withdrawn completely from society...

Dr. Paul Ruth , head of ConSec's Scanner Section, introduces the company's senior scanner , who offers to "scan" a volunteer to demonstrate the banality of the process. Unfortunately his volunteer, Darryl Revok is a renegade with formidable telepathic powers who has declared war on ConSec and all scanners who voluntarily work for it.

Ruth meets with ConSec's newly hired head of security, Braedon Keller , to mull Ruth's two biggest challenges: hunting down Revok and infiltrating the secretive scanner community.Ruth thinks both problems can be solved simultaneously using Vale, who might be the only scanner with sufficient psychic power to challenge Revok.Ruth tells Vale about a secret drug, ephemerol, which ConSec uses to suppress scanners' telepathic powers, thereby maintaining control over them.

According to Revok, Ruth had experimented with ephemerol on their pregnant mother, and all scanners are the children of women who were given ephemerol during pregnancy. Revok's plans to conquer the world with an army of scanners created by administering ephemerol to thousands of unwitting pregnant women...Scanners spawned sequels and a series of spin-offs...

Freemasons have long been known to have psychic and telepathic ability.

For what we do presage is not in grosse,
For we are brethren of the Rosie Crosse;
We have the Mason Word and second sight,
Things for to come we can foretell aright.

That is from an old poem by Henry Adamson.

Exclamation The Men who Stare at Goats

The Men Who Stare at Goats (2004) is a book by Jon Ronson about the U.S. Army's exploration of New Age concepts and the potential military applications of the paranormal...

The book examines connections between military programs and psychological techniques being used for interrogation in the War on Terror. The book traces the evolution of these covert activities over the past three decades, and sees how they are alive today within U.S. Homeland Security and the Iraq War. It examines the use of the theme tune to Barney & Friends on Iraqi prisoners-of-war, the smuggling of a hundred de-bleated goats into the Special Forces command center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and the connection between the U.S. military and the mass-suicide of members of the Heaven's Gate cult in San Diego. The title refers to attempts to kill goats by staring at them...

The movie is set in Iraq and filmed in Comerío Street, Bayamón, Puerto Rico and the New Mexico Military Institute and centers on Bob Wilton, a desperate reporter who stumbles upon the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady, who claims to be a former secret U.S. military psychic soldier re-activated post-9/11.

On the night of 22/23 January, the patrol were transported into Iraqi airspace by a RAF Chinook helicopter, along with Bravo One Zero and their Land Rover 110 vehicles. Unlike Bravo One Zero, the patrol had decided not to take vehicles...the patrol was dropped closer than intended to the OP, due to a navigational error made by the Royal Air Force...Lane discovered that they had communication problems and could not receive messages on the patrol's radio. It was claimed that the patrol had been issued with incorrect radio frequencies; however a 2002 BBC report discovered that there was no error with the frequencies because the patrol's transmissions had been noted in the daily record log...Were stumbled upon by an ‘old’ goatherd tending a flock of goats...

The book accompanies a three-part TV series broadcast on Channel 4 in Britain, Crazy Rulers of the World. The three parts were titled "The Men Who Stare at Goats", "Funny Torture" and "Psychic Footsoldiers" respectively. The idea of the project was to explore "the apparent madness at the heart of U.S. military intelligence." The series discusses and includes members of Psychological operations, First Earth Battalion, and also discusses Project MKULTRA and Frank Olson, including interviews with his son, Eric Olson.

You have an unattributed photo from The Devil Rides Out in that post. It makes it look as if there is a scene with Satan from The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Fix it.

Chess, snakes & ladders and draughts as well of course, owing to the chequered board. What about polo? I mean on-a-horse polo.

Lightbulb Cruel Sea

It was based on the best selling novel The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Monsarrat. It is a portrayal of the war between the Royal Navy and Germany's U-boats from the viewpoint of the British naval officers and seamen who served in escort vessels during World War II, although the screenplay by Eric Ambler omitted some of Monsarrat's grimmest images.

Quote:
This is a story of the Battle of the Atlantic, the story of an ocean, two ships, and a handful of men. The men are the heroes; the heroines are the ships. The only villain is the sea, the cruel sea, that man has made more cruel...

Das Boot is an adaption of the 1973 German novel of the same name by Lothar-Günther Buchheim. Set during World War II, the film tells the fictional story of U-96 and its crew. It depicts both the excitement of battle and the tedium of the fruitless hunt, and shows the men serving aboard U-boats as ordinary individuals with a desire to do their best for their comrades and their country...

Lightbulb Fury

The plot combines elements of horror and the spy thriller. A teenage girl, Gillian Bellaver discovers that she possesses psychic powers, including telekinesis and extra-sensory perception, but that other people suffer bleeding if they touch her. She volunteers to attend the Paragon Clinic, whose director, Dr. James McKeever , works for a shady intelligence operative named Ben Childress . Childress has betrayed his friend Peter Sandza and is using Sandza's psychic son Robin in research into the weapons potential of psychics...

Mendelian inheritance (or Mendelian genetics or Mendelism or Monogenetic inheritance) is a scientific theory of how hereditary characteristics are passed from parent organisms to their offspring; it underlies much of genetics. This theoretical framework was initially derived from the work of Gregor Johann Mendel published in 1865 and 1866 which was re-discovered in 1900; it was initially very controversial. When Mendel's theories were integrated with the chromosome theory of inheritance by Thomas Hunt Morgan in 1915, they became the core of classical genetics...

Of the 46 chromosomes in a normal diploid human cell, half are maternally derived (from the mother's egg) and half are paternally derived (from the father's sperm). This occurs as sexual reproduction involves the fusion of two haploid gametes (the egg and sperm) to produce a new organism having the full complement of chromosomes. During gametogenesis—the production of new gametes by an adult—the normal complement of 46 chromosomes needs to be halved to 23 to ensure that the resulting haploid gamete can join with another gamete to produce a diploid organism. An error in the number of chromosomes, such as those caused by a diploid gamete joining with a haploid gamete, is termed aneuploidy...

Not seen those.

Of course Mozart was very nearly black balled from the 'Masons for the 'Magik Flute'.

Wonderful music, which is great for increasing neural-pathways and quality of awareness and thought etc....even the 'Mason (not sure if he is now 'cautious') Pete Waterman acknowledged such in Mozart et al's work

Hi Dunadan!
Both films are excellent in my opinion, and not just for their masonic content. They are just very entertaining!
I am a lover of sci-fi and horror normally (love the Hammer films) but for these two I make an exception.
I often wonder how Mozart went from and Entered Apprentice to Master mason in just a month???
It took me 3 years!!

Hi Mistressmason,

Likewise....love the old Hammer stuff too....yet the newer stuff such as Revelation (a bit low budget but good content and relevant with Venus where she is at the moment )and Ninth Gate , From Hell is great too..

Even 'Great British Train Journeys' had the 'Claude Hamilton' lodge featured within the other day...then there was the Morse episode re Mozart and the 'Masons, yet that has been heavily doctored for the repeats/re-runs (I wonder why?).

Even the good old Lord Mayor of London's (City) Parade is a good watch, as are the various lesser royals, when they make the 'clasp'

Also I liked the last episode (if I remember correctly) of - amongst others - of Babylon 5, with the heavy hints at ancient knowledge and technology being dished out slowly by a brotherhood/order of Templar like types (holders of such knowledge)....

I have seen other Entered Apprentices go from 'zero to hero' in a very short space of time too (2-3 months) which made a mockery of things to my mind, yet others, old 'masons I know and have known, have taken several years....(the latter is the more accepted route to my mind).

I, as I have said on here before, have seen freemasonry change since the 1980's and yet it seems that 'fast-tracking' has been a longstanding option for many years with Mozart et al.

Fastracking is not the way to go I dont think. I am glad my Raising took 3 years because I wanted to learn, and needed time to learn. In my opinion Freemasonry is not a road to tread lightly!
Anyway back to films!
Have you seen "The Objective!" yet? I loved that one and the questions it got my mind ticking with.
I am quite a fan of British young director Christopher Smith and adored his "Creep" and his "The Black Death!" is absolutly AWESOME!!...Come to that I might give this another wizz tonight after Corrie!

Hi

I agree fastracking isn't the way to go for any sort of pathwork/initiation process....and Freemasonry isn't a path to tread lightly

I havent seen The Objective or Creep, my eyes have been opened and I will look them up - thanks

Seen Black Death - fantastic - and I have a feeling that there was another very similar film on similar lines etc. (forgot the title though - sorry - it may come to me).

After Corrie....mmm:...that is a change in gear
