The story focuses on a former priest named Graham Hess, who discovers a series of crop circles in his cornfield. Hess slowly becomes convinced that the phenomena are a result of extraterrestrial life.

Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York, the sixth of 11 children, and the second son of Hutton Gibson and Irish-born Anne Patricia (née Reilly, died 1990). His paternal grandmother was the Australian opera contralto Eva Mylott (1875–1920).

Soon after being awarded US$145,000 in a work-related-injury lawsuit against New York Central Railroad on 14 February 1968, Hutton Gibson relocated his family to West Pymble, Sydney. Mel Gibson was 12 years old at the time. The move to Hutton's mother's native Australia was for economic reasons, and because Hutton thought the Australian Defence Forces would reject his oldest son for the draft during the Vietnam War.

'we're not gonna sit in silence; we're not gonna live with fear'...

etc.

Default Australian Foreign Aid

Some people in this country need to wake up!!

Quote:
Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr announced on Wednesday the launch of a Comprehensive Aid Policy Framework that will serve as guide to the growth of Canberra's foreign aid budget over the next four years. The launch is timely because of the increase of Australia's foreign aid budget to $7.7 billion in 2015-16 from the current $4.9 billion.

The development of a framework was a commitment of the Gillard government in late 2011.

Mr Carr said in a statement that by 2015-16, 70 per cent of its foreign aid will be allocated to Asia and the Pacific which it considers the highest priority region. The minister identified the 12 largest bilateral aid recipients in the region as: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Afghanistan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, East Timor, Pakistan, Cambodia, Burma and Vanuatu.

He said more than 30 per cent of the aid will be through partnerships with multilateral organizations to expand the reach and influence of Australian aid. These are the World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank, World Food Programme and the United Nations Children's Fund.

Mr Carr said by committing a larger amount to international development efforts, Australia hopes to contribute to real results in decreasing poverty in every region of the world.

"Lifting the last 1.3 billion people out of extreme poverty is even more challenging than achieving the progress of the past 20 years. Many of the people who remain in extreme poverty live in conflict-affected, fragile or remote parts of the world, and are the hardest to reach," Mr Carr said.

He said one fourth of the aid budget would be used on education assistance to help reach the Millennium Development Goals, while 10 per cent of the budget would be coursed through partners with nongovernment organizations.

Among the aims of the aid would be to vaccinate over 10 million poor children against preventable childhood diseases, provide one million mothers access to a skilled birth attendant during birth, safe water access to 8.5 million people, better sanitation facilities and knowledge of hygiene practices to another 5 million people, life-saving assistance for 30 million vulnerable people in conflict and crisis situations and help 4 million children enroll in school and 20 million children obtain better quality education.

Mr Carr said his office will assess progress against the framework through a yearly review which he will submit to Canberra. The first annual review is due by end of October 2012, which the foreign affairs minister said would be made public.

For the 2012-13 federal budget, the Gillard government said it will hike assistance to the poorest East Asian nations to $208.6 million spread over four years. It will be allocated to Burma, Cambodia and Laos to improve these three nations' agricultural productivity and improve health and education services, as well as help Vietnam address it flood and other natural disasters problems. The assistance includes 250,000 student beneficiaries get better education and 60,000 farmers attain freedom from poverty.

Another $3.5 million is included in the 2012-13 federal budget to allow Australian federal police to continue the deployment of 50 officers in East Timor as part of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste, while it will also invest $190.3 million over two years to continue Australia's aid programme in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, Treasurer Wayne Swan unveiled $33 billion in savings for the federal budget and promised to make tougher budget cuts over the next 12 months to achieve the government's promise of a $1.5-billion budget surplus. To achieve that, the government junked at the last minute its promised business tax cuts to shoulder the cost of voter handouts in a bid to explain the impact of the carbon tax to Australians.

"These frustrated multitudes have been made acutely aware of their own frustration. The gap of their always partly artificial disadvantage has been greatly diminished because now they all read. Even for incidental employment it has been necessary to teach them that, and the new reading public thus created has evoked a press and literature of excitement and suggestion. The cinema and the radio dazzle them with spectacles of luxury and unrestricted living. They are not the helpless Hodges and factory fodder of a hundred years ago. They are educated up to what must have been the middle-class level in 1889. They are indeed largely a squeezed-out middle class, restless, impatient and as we shall see extremely dangerous. They have assimilated almost all of the lower strata that were formerly illiterate drudges".

Hi

I am still confused with the majority of posts in this thread.

I have noticed a few things happening lately in Australia that will lead to something big.

On the news lately there has been a lot of gun crime happening in this country.
I believe that this is mostly staged to provide the government more freedom to take away the guns that remain in the community for the big event in 2012.

I have located major underground construction sites here in regional SA and these will be used to keep the elite and people with money safe during the events that will take place in later 2012 while the rest of us will be led into the camps with no way to defend ourselves.

Yes, so you keep saying...but you have managed to locate major underground construction sites that will be used to keep the elite and people with money safe during the events that will take place in later 2012...So lets see em.

Look up the hot rocks thermal energy exploration program.

There has been major construction at a few sites for years and they haven't produced a drop of electricity.

One of them sites is close to were I live.
Activity at the site has increased over the past year.

The Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) is a part of Antarctica. It was claimed by the United Kingdom and placed under the authority of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1933. It is the largest territory of Antarctica claimed by any nation. Since the Antarctic Treaty came into force in 1961, Article 4 of which states "The treaty does not recognize, dispute, nor establish territorial sovereignty claims; no new claims shall be asserted while the treaty is in force", most countries do not recognise territorial claims in Antarctica.

re construction in SA, do you know anything about a large brick kiln (?) built at Roxby Downs some years ago?

Could be a crematorium

Meh, bring it on, I'm ready.

Lightbulb Ab duct ion

Peter Marcunt Falconio (20 September 1972 – c. 14 July 2001) was a British tourist who disappeared in the Australian outback in July 2001, while travelling with girlfriend Joanne Lees. Falconio is presumed dead.Falconio was 28 years old at the time of the disappearance. His body has never been found. Bradley John Murdoch was convicted of his murder on 13 December 2005. The case attracted considerable public and legal attention worldwide.

Peter Falconio was born on 20 September 1972 in Hepworth, Huddersfield, West Riding of Yorkshire...Hepworth is a small village to the southeast of Holmfirth and southwest of Jackson Bridge in West Yorkshire, England. It has been extensively used as one of the locations in the BBC's long-running comedy series Last of the Summer Wine. Much of which has centred on the village pub the 'Butchers Arms', which provides a central meeting place for the village residents. The name Hepworth is Anglo-Saxon. It may have been that Heppa, an Anglo-Saxon, was of great “worth”.In 1665 – 1666 the Great Plague struck England. It wrought devastation in London, then spread across the country. Hepworth was the most northerly point that it reached.

Lees stated that while travelling at night along the Stuart Highway near Barrow Creek (between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek) in the Northern Territory on 14 July 2001, the pair were stopped by a man waving for the couple to stop their Volkswagen Type 2 "Kombi" van and indicating trouble with their vehicle's exhaust. At the committal hearing in December 2004 Lees told the court that her assailant then tied her wrists together behind her, put a sack over her head and forced her into his ute (pick-up truck). She also stated that the person forced her between the seats of his vehicle and into the rear of his vehicle. She said she escaped from his ute and fled into the dark, hiding under bushes, while he tried to find her with a torch...In Australia and New Zealand vehicles like the Holden Ute and Falcon Utility are colloquially called utes...

Expert Aboriginal trackers, called from a nearby settlement could find no sign of tracks other than Lees' in the vicinity. Tracker Teddy Egan stated, "I see tracks where she run and fall down beneath tree. She lie there, hiding". It was also noted that a pool of Falconio's blood that had been covered in soil had attracted no ants or flies, considered to be much more out of the ordinary by Territorians than a roadside fire.

Falconio's body has not been found despite a massive police search. Much doubt has been cast on how Lees may have been able to escape from her bindings, as when she flagged down a passing truck for assistance, her hands were in front of her body. Lees however was able to demonstrate in court how easily she was able to bring her bound hands from behind to front. Police, however, found no vehicle that was able to be accessed from the front seats to the rear canopy area without leaving the vehicle.

Some two years after the disappearance, Bradley John Murdoch, a man living in Adelaide and previously acquitted of a rape charge, was found to have a possible connection to Barrow Creek on 14 July 2001. Murdoch was found not guilty of the rape but Northern Territory police applied for extradition to face charges of abduction and murder. Lees identified his photograph as being the man who abducted her after being shown a photograph of a person in custody in Adelaide by a journalist in the UK, and the DNA from the bloodstains on Lees' clothing matched Murdoch's DNA.Northern Territory Director of Public Prosecutions Rex Wild said in court there are three pieces of evidence linking Murdoch to the scene of the crime. His DNA was a match with bloodstains on Joanne Lees' t-shirt, a smear of blood on the gearstick of the couple's car, and DNA located on tape used by the killer to bind her wrists. These assertions have all been disputed by Murdoch's defence team.Algie and Twiggs pointed to the absence of blood at the crime scene, the mix-ups with DNA, the lack of a body, apparent sightings of Falconio in the days thereafter, inconsistencies in Lees' testimony, the poor police procedures in handling evidence, and the lack of a positive identification of Bradley John Murdoch.

Wild suggested that there was no evidence whatsoever of any police corruption, and urged jurors to dismiss any suggestions as an unfounded conspiracy theory that was "plucked out of thin air". He suggested that all of the evidence points to one obvious conclusion: that Murdoch killed Falconio. He stated that while no body has been found yet, it will be eventually, that it was only a matter of time, but that it "may be quite some time".

Red Rooster claim...

Quote:
During Murdoch's committal hearing, Lees mentioned that she and Falconio had stopped at a Red Rooster restaurant in Alice Springs. Murdoch claimed to have stopped at the same restaurant to buy chicken for himself and his dog, "First thing in Alice, pulled into the Red Rooster... Chicken roll, box of nuggets for Jack...full chicken for the trip." Grant Algie suggested that Murdoch might have cut himself and inadvertently left blood at the restaurant which later transferred to Lees' shirt, explaining the presence of his DNA there...In April 2006, The Bulletin reported that Murdoch had refused to be served chicken while incarcerated during the committal and trial, claiming he was allergic to it, and that he has a standing medical certificate at Berrimah Prison requesting that he never be served chicken.

Subsequent to his conviction, Murdoch appealed the conviction and sentence. On 10 January 2007, the Northern Territory Court of Criminal Appeal (NT CCA) dismissed both limbs of the appeal. The appeal comes after the collapse of the case against Sean Hoey, who was acquitted in December 2007 of 58 charges, including 29 murders, related to the Omagh bombing in 1998. The NT Department of Public Prosecutions said they had not been notified of the action, and the Northern Territory Police would not comment.

Evidence against both Murdoch and Hoey was given by Dr Jonathan Whitaker of Britain's Yorkshire-based Forensic Science Service using a controversial technique called low copy number DNA. At Hoey's trial in Belfast, however, several experts said the low copy number DNA technique used to identify the accused was unreliable, and the judge was highly critical in his assessment of Dr Whitaker's evidence.

Starting at the North Pole and heading south to the South Pole, the 1st meridian west hitting land just west of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire...just east of the Isle of Wight, Queen Maud Land, claimed by Norway...The 133rd meridian east passes through the Northern Territory...(The Olympic Dam mine near Roxby Downs in northern South Australia is the largest deposit of uranium in the world, possessing more than a third of the world's low-cost recoverable reserves and 70% of Australia's.)...South Australia..Australian Antarctic Territory, claimed by Australia.

The disappearance of Claudia Lawrence is a missing person case concerning a then-35 year old British chef at the University of York. The last confirmed sighting of her was on 18 March 2009, in Melrosegate, Heworth, York...The last text message from her was sent at 8:23 p.m., and her last received message, from a bar worker in Cyprus, was at 9:12 p.m...Six weeks after Lawrence went missing, the investigation into her disappearance was reclassified from a missing person's case to a suspected murder enquiry, although police have acknowledged they have no proof Lawrence is dead.

Default Every click you make, they'll be watching

THE telephone and internet data of every Australian will be retained for up to two years and intelligence agencies would be given increased access to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, under a suite of new proposals from Australia's intelligence community.

Revealed in a discussion paper released by the Attorney-General's Department, the more than 40 proposals form a massive ambit claim from the intelligence agencies. If passed they would be the most significant expansion of the Australian intelligence community's powers since the Howard-era reforms following the terrorist attacks of 2001.

The discussion paper containing the proposals was released as part of an announcement by the Attorney-General, Nicola Roxon, who has asked the parliamentary joint committee on intelligence security to review them.

The review will seek public submissions for the next month and will then hold a series of public and classified hearings.

''It will be one of the most controversial inquiries the committee has ever held,'' a government official speaking on condition of anonymity said.

''Once people get their head around this stuff it will be very interesting to see what their reaction will be. In the UK it has led to some very vocal opinions.''

A similar data retention regime proposed in Britain - though of only 12 months, rather than two years, duration - has been widely debated and England's Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, has stated the case for such regimes has yet to be made.

The Australian proposals will also be sure to attract strong criticism from the Greens and civil liberties groups.

The discussion paper outlines changes to the various Acts governing Australia's six intelligence agencies - which include ASIO, ASIS and the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD).

They are also divided into three categories - those the government agrees with, those they are considering, and those they are seeking advice on.

The proposed reform likely to cause the most outrage is the intention to force all telecommunications providers operating in Australia to retain users' data for up to two years. While some companies voluntarily retain data for such periods, others delete users' call records and internet usage data almost as quickly as they receive it.

Such data retention schemes have been a subject of much global debate, with law enforcement and intelligence agencies saying they are finding it increasingly hard to monitor their targets online due to the proliferation of new tools such as social media, cloud computing and internet communications utilities such as Skype.

Civil liberties groups and some politicians, however, say it is a first step in a systematic erosion of privacy online.

''This extreme proposal is based on the notion that all our personal data should be stored by service providers so that every move we make can be surveilled or recalled for later data-mining,'' the Greens senator Scott Ludlam said.

Also among the proposals are changes to some of the most fundamental divisions between agencies. For six decades ASIO has been the only Australian intelligence agency authorised to routinely collect intelligence on Australians.

However, under a proposed change, officers from Australia's foreign intelligence services, ASIS and the DSD, would be allowed to monitor Australian citizens overseas if an ASIO officer was not available.

ASIO, whose main role is to monitor people in Australia - mainly citizens - who may present a security threat, has a specific legislative framework which was created to protect people's rights. Australians monitored by ASIS or DSD would presumably not have access to similar protections.

Australia signed the Lisbon Treaty, the Trans Tasman Treaty, the Rio Accord.
We are part of the G20, ASEAN, Agenda 21.
Most councils are members of ICLEI.
We have had Round Table delegations since the 1920's.
Our main finance people are either Oxford Grads or attended London School of Economics. Quite a few are Rhode Scholars.
The Rothschilds have family and extensive business interests here, including the Ring of Fire Corporation.
Pine Gap is well known to most as is Woomera and Maralinga. Port Adelaide will be a major maintenance facility for the US Navy. We are told that 50,000 US troops will be stationed here. I know of two internment camps, one in SA and one in Queensland.

I'd say that makes us in it up to our necks.
