No experience nececary!

I lived the city/party life for 25 years after school.

Now I grow most of our food, all of our fuel, create our own electricity, learn how to manage the forrest, crop rotation, breeding animals, harvest and press olives, making cheese and wine etc.

We have the project, the tools and a little know how...... we just need a little extra help in exchange for a mountain lifestyle experience full bed and board.

This is realy a skills exchange....... we had one lad lastyear, came from San Paulo had no idea, seriously, how to use a saw - he led a sedintery life of being waited on hand and foot by family and studying.
He left telling us he had never felt so usefull or able in his life.

That looks awesome. I wish you all the success and only wish I could do something like that.

What the temperature in winter like? Not sure I can handle 40C especially if it's humid! Otherwise sounds like a really interesting project. You should post on Permies too if you have not already.

Thanks for the reply Magritte.

This summer has been exceptionaly cool - its not been much over 30oC so its been an easy season to be productive.
Last summer was too hot, hitting 40 in the afternoons. I would get up at 5.30am and work till 11am...... siesta, swim, relax, read..... then work again from 5pm.

Its fine now to work through the day in this temperature.

Winter temperatures are simmilar to UK, around 1oC overnight at the coldest and from 10oC to 20oC when the sun is out.

It seemed to rain for 4 months over the winter but the locals say this is abnormal weather.

Are you up for the challenge?

If I were in your country I would jump at the chance. Thank you for the link, as there are some places closer to me I'm going to check into.

You're living the dream. Good luck.

We have been living very much like these guys for over 20 year now, our skills base in quite varied, we are shoe makers, engineers, wheelwrights, woodworkers, leatherworkers, beekeepers, gardeners and many more, from a farming heritage as far back as 1508, with a very low expenditure, living on grid and within the system, so many more could be likewise if they have the skills.

We also have an off grid workshop with all manual tools to work with.

Here is our stuff today.

www.woodenengineering.co.uk.

I know how hard it is and wish these guys all the best.
