Default 20,000 Jews Protest Israel in NYC

NY orthodox rally against military service sounds anti-Zionist themes
June 10, 2013

Yesterday there was a giant rally of Orthodox Jews in New York opposing efforts to require their religious counterparts in Israel to perform military service. News reports say 20-30,000 men filled Foley Square.

As you will see in the (suitably black-and-white) photos a friend sent, below, and in the news items that follow, there were strong anti-Zionist strains in the demonstration.

This report at the World Jewish Congress emphasizes the efforts to suppress anti-Zionist strains at the demonstration:

Tens of thousands of Jews protested in New York City on Sunday against plans by Israel to draft ultra-Orthodox Jews into the IDF. The mass rally in Manhattan's Foley Square drew an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 participants mainly from New York’s Hassidic community. Almost all protestors were men. Some 2,000 rabbis sat on special platform, and 300 NYPD policemen secured the event.

Protesters held signs which read "The Israeli draft law is an attack on freedom of religion”, and one speaker portrayed the conscription effort as only the latest in a series of failed attempts throughout history to destroy Judaism. Demonstrators were mostly from two factions of Satmar Hasidim, an anti-Zionist sect within the ultra-Orthodox community whose members are typically are at odds but came together on this issue. Recently, Satmar leader Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum said enlistment was worse than the annihilation of the Jewish people.

Organizers tried to hide anti-Zionist sentiments and focus only on the anti-draft message during the two-hour rally. Speakers on the stage repeatedly asked the crowd to put away any signs with messages against the State of Israel, and there were at least three cases in which protesters physically took down anti-Zionist signs held up by other protestors, according to a ‘Forward’ report.

The Forward report came out last week and warned about these anti-Zionist messages:

Posters advertising a massive ultra-Orthodox rally scheduled for this Sunday in Manhattan employ highly inflammatory language against Israel and the Israeli army.

“The evil rulers in the Holy Land want to incite and seduce young men and teenagers to acquiesce to idol worship and to participate in the impure army,” reads one Yiddish and Hebrew poster, a digital copy of which was obtained and translated by the Forward.

Default MSM focuses only on Religious Freedom and IDF duty

Haredim in Manhattan rally against Israel's military draft with simple demand: Religious freedom
Thousands of ultra-Orthodox demonstrators gathered in lower Manhattan to protest Israel's efforts to draft Haredim into the IDF, and fight for what has been largely the domain of Israeli liberals: Religious rights.

Anti-Israel posters boost N.Y. ultra-Orthodox anti-IDF draft rally

Until now, the primary storyline of the religious-secular battles in Israel has been driven by Women of the Wall, the activist group that, with their monthly prayer meetings at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, have brought more attention to the quest for religious equality in Israel than has been seen in years.

But with the massive Haredi protest at the Wall last month, and Sunday’s large showing in Lower Manhattan, the Haredim have begun to mobilize.

The immediate issue which brought thousands to Foley Square on Sunday is the attempt to conscript Haredi Israelis into the army. A parliamentary committee advanced a bill last month that would do just that. But the banner under which the protestors gathered on Sunday surprised me a little, as it’s one that has been largely the domain of religious liberals: freedom of religion.

As one sign carrier told me, his religion requires him to sit and study Torah. Any attempt to draft those like him into the military would be a violation of his religious rights.

It has generally been the liberals who have taken this line (in several cases, to the Israeli Supreme Court), arguing that religious law should not be the law of the land, and that Reform and Conservative Jews also have rights, in particular at the Western Wall. The effort has borne fruit, leading to a court ruling in favor of women’s prayer at the Kotel and an announcement by the Religious Services Ministry that it would institute changes to allow for the funding of non-Orthodox rabbis. The support that such efforts have drawn from the ranks of American Jews shows that the quest for religious equality is a resonant one.

Which may be precisely why the Haredim are trying to co-opt it. To passersby on Sunday, the crowd had a simple message, one that rings sympathetically to American ears. It’s a savvy move, and one with the added benefit of obscuring the anti-Zionism that is at the heart of the protest. Signs promoting the gathering spoke of the “evil” Israeli authorities, leading the Rabbinical Council of America, a centrist Orthodox group, to condemn the “anti-Israel rally” before it had even begun, saying attendees were aiding the enemies of the Jewish people. But it was the protestors who believed themselves to be on God’s side. One speaker portrayed the conscription effort as only the latest in a series of failed attempts throughout history to destroy Judaism.

Sunday’s gathering was promoted with banners in strongholds of the Satmar Hasidic community. According to a Forward report last week, the protest was deemed so important it brought about a rare rapprochement between the group’s two warring factions, which split after the 2006 death of the Satmar rebbe, Moshe Teitelbaum. Organizers said they expected 20,000 people. One guy with a placard told me there were 100,000 there, which was certainly not the case. But they came by the busload. Hours after the event began, groups of Hasidic men in Brooklyn were still streaming toward Manhattan.

Worth remembering that these orthodox jews are still supremacists.
They just believe that the state of israel is against their God's word.
They don't necessarily care about the palestinians

Thanks for pointing that out ... and yep, Torah Jews believe Jews are still in a state of exile and are illegal occupants of the Holy Land .... that the creation of Israel was not God's word ... but rather facilitated by the political ideology of the Talmud ... Zionism.

Guys and Ladies

Please do not get too excited about Neturei Kartei (the jews in the film) protesting against zioism - good though that is.

Once they sense or see the Moshiach (messiah) has arrived - then Jews are meant to have the "holy land" and these guys will be all in, unless I am mistaken, but they say it in the film at 2:10 plus or so.

edit:

PS - when the messiah comes all goyim (previously i used gentiles but this word is more authentic) will be overjoyed to serve the chosen. I kid you not, just get used to it.

I fully support Naturei Karta. They've long stood against the monstrous state of Israhell. In theory, yes, they do believe that their messiah, the true messiah, will give them back the holy land. Well, there ain't no messiah, not unless Israhell manages to manufacture a proper Charlton Heston (think of the move MOSES) style messianic return show.

They oppose the fake state of Israhell. They oppose the barbarism against Palestinians. Like I said, unless Hollywood or Mossad manage to concoct a really believable saviour mirage for orthodox jews, they aren't interested in Israhell.

Quote:
The truth is that the Jewish faith and Zionism are two very different philosophies. They are as opposite as day and night. The Jewish people have existed for thousands of years. In their two thousand years of Divinely decreed exile no Jew ever sought to end this exile and establish independent political sovereignty anywhere. The people's sole purpose was the study and fulfillment of the Divine commandments of the Torah.

The Zionist movement created the Israeli state. The latter is a persuasion less than one hundred years old. Its essential goal was and is to change the nature of the Jewish people from that of a religious entity to a political movement. From Zionism's inception the spiritual leaders of the Jewish people stood in staunch opposition to it.

To this day Torah Jewry remains forever loyal to its faith. Zionists want the world to believe that they are the representatives of the entire Jewish people. This is false! The Jewish people never chose them as their leaders.

The Zionists have deceived many well meaning Jewish people via terror, trickery and false propaganda. They have at their disposal the use of a nearly universally subservient media. Whoever attempts to criticize them puts his livelihood and, at times, his very life in danger.

However, despite the media blackout and easy resort to terror the simple truth remains unrefuted and irrefutable: ACCORDING TO THE JEWISH FAITH AND TORAH LAW THE JEWISH PEOPLE ARE FORBIDDEN TO HAVE THEIR OWN STATE WHILE AWAITING THE MESSIANIC ERA!

The Creator gave us the Holy Land thousands of years ago. Yet, when we sinned, He took it away and sent us into exile. Since that time our task is to wait for Him to send the Messiah. At that time, the Creator alone, without any human being lifting a hand or saying a word, will bring us together and take us out of exile. He will likewise establish universal peace among all mankind and all will serve Him in good will.

Some religious Jews, confused by Zionist propaganda quote Biblical verses that state that G-d gave the children of Israel the Holy Land. They overlook, unfortunately, those verses which say that He took it away due to our sins. They further ignore those prophecies which explicitly describe the last exile's conclusion as a Divine, not a human process.

The Creator has commanded every Jew to follow the ways of peace and to be loyal to the country where he lives.

Torah true Jewry waits patiently for the Messianic redemption. They have nothing to do with any kind of pseudo "Jewish State" and its aggressions against other peoples. They have a deep sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians who have suffered the most from Zionism's false teachings and barbaric actions. The Zionist state is not a Jewish state. The Zionists alone are the only ones responsible for their actions. Authentic Jewry has and will continue to oppose the very existence of this blasphemous state.

May all mankind witness the true redemption.

There's already a thread on this.

http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=247696

Maybe the Mods can merge?

It is great to see. What was covered was ultra Orthodox Jews protesting about mandatory military service in the IDF.

They reject Israel as created by god's hand and see it as a Zionist construct. Jews are still in exile, and as such are scripturally prevented from having an army etc.

An image (in the other thread) shows a line of protesters holding placards criticising Israel more broadly. Those images were wanted to be kept hidden.

These people are sure to be branded 'self-hating' by the Zionists...but that's a contradictory and deceptive label...these people speak the truth about their quest for 'Israel'...it was not meant to happen like this.

This has always been my thrust when it comes to the thing that they call 'Israel'...it's good to see some Jewish people of conscience speak out in the same vein...we might be able to puncture that shield of bullshit yet.

Now if only people would start leaving the stolen 'country' en masse...we might see an actual change in attitudes.

They need to put pressure on the askenazi and the real money backers in america so yea they are well placed if American Jewry turn against the atrocious state known as Israel not even some of their most prominent members wanted anything to do with it like Einstein etc. Also it isn't even proper Zionism, a bunch of power hungry land grabbing socio paths hijacked the whole fucking thing.

Would that take the parting of the Red Sea and the rejoice at the Tsunamis created? How about some glowing Rabbi figure riding the clouds over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem? Would that do the trick?
Will Yul Brynner be chasing them all the way to the Wailing wall?

LMFAO.

NK have been around a long time. When i learnt of them emailed with their Rabbis in NYC for views on the Talmud.

All links are on their web-site.

Mainstream Judaism side lines them as a "fringe sect" ... and demeans them .. as they do to their own who speak out about Judaism from within the community where they are pummelled into the ground with assertions of mental illness and up to death threats etc.
