Welcome to the party of survival.
IIRC he nearly bankrupted the union by demanding it continue to pay his flats rent.

Good! This fool is no better than the rest of them. He got his money from the mugs who paid their union fees and many of them, were in low paid jobs.

Just a Champagne socialist who is no better than the capitalism he was against.
Why should poor workers pay for him.

Technology will eventually, be used to enslave the human race. Time to wake up.
The UK voted to leave the corrupt, undemocratic EU. Get on with starting article 50!

They should have built him a house, it would have cost about £50k instead of lining the pockets of landlords yet again (proper bug bear of mine) I don't much care for the guy but I think companies should be responsible for their retired employees. Should he be housed for life, yes I think so... should it cost £35k a year? no fucking way..

without offending you he wasnt a company employee he was the union man whos job was to defend the workers he represented not sponge of them for life..the likes of scargill made labour un-votable in a tory hating era(for the working classes)hence the dim dems get a look in nowadays.
politics is lies at every angle.

Except he has a very nice circa £400K house in Yorkshire, which is a lot more than many former mineworkers have. Why does the selfish twat need a place in London?

I'm being objective, as I said I have no love for the guy whatsoever, for the reasons you've stated and more. A £35k a house is ridiculous, but I think a strip of pasture for old war horses is acceptable, maybe even a little bunglow for the queen? A couple of my random thoughts are that, he never should have been given the job in the first place but as we well know the unions have been infiltrated and controlled almost since the outset... I tend to believe that the ptb ride the wave, they don't start it, control the natural progress if you like.. but I suppose when you've got eyes and ears in so many places you can't tweet the beat of the jungle drums fairly early on?... how's that for sense?

I didn't give the pillock the job in the first place, but if we're giving out retirement homes to long term ex employees, which I actually think, objectively speaking is a good idea. Then they should be purpose build, which you can do fairly cheaply to a good standard, instead of paying extortionate rents for luxury properties. Granted this probably wasn't the best case on which to argue this point, but I view (sadly) unions as any other cut-throat commercial enterprise.

He should bloody well live in the same housing as all the other miners. Half way up a steep hill in Swansea. Arsehole. All union bosses are the same. The rank and file live week to week and they run around in big cars and all the luxuries.

I am pleased to hear this verdict.

The question should be what sort of world would I like to live in? and I'm not an ex miner either but being from Derbyshire a lot of my family were. Retirement homes aren't really the issue here, it's anger at getting ripped off by some twat, who's dodgy dealings will continue to seriously damage the life chances of generations to come... yes I get that. But we're gonna get the leaders we deserve whilst we keep delegating our duty to some corrupt, unrepresentative 'spokesperson' because the little people can't get along with each other well enough to mobilise.

So yeh I say let's build Scargil a palace, to provide a constant reminder of how naive we can be, give him a balcony too and with a bit of luck he might jump off it
