A pseudo-Egyptian obelisk near the south-east corner of the parish church, similar to one in Leigh, was probably built for Robert Vernon Atherton in 1781.. It was restored in 1867 twelve years before the church was finished. It is a Grade II listed structure..Atherton's war memorial is a cenotaph at the intersection of Leigh Road and Hamilton Street was designed by architect Arthur John Hope and constructed of Darley Dale stone.. It was unveiled in January 1922 by Private J. Roylance, a soldier blinded in action during the First World War...

Lightbulb Lord Lucan

7th Earl...
Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan (born 18 December 1934), commonly known as Lord Lucan, a British peer suspected of murder, disappeared without trace early on 8 November 1974.. He was born into an Anglo-Irish aristocratic family in Marylebone, the elder son of the 6th Earl of Lucan by his marriage to Kaitlin Elizabeth Anne Dawson. Evacuated during the Second World War, Lucan returned to attend Eton, then from 1953 to 1955 served with the Coldstream Guards in West Germany..Once considered for the role of James Bond, Lucan was a charismatic man with expensive tastes; he raced power boats and drove an Aston Martin..

On the evening of 7 November 1974, the children's nanny, Sandra Rivett, was bludgeoned to death in the basement of the Lucan family home. Lady Lucan was also attacked; she later identified Lucan as her assailant.. As the police began their murder investigation, Lucan telephoned his mother, asking her to collect the children, and then drove a borrowed Ford Corsair to a friend's house in Uckfield, East Sussex. Hours later, he left the property and was never seen again. The Corsair was later found abandoned in Newhaven, its interior stained with blood and its boot containing a piece of bandaged lead pipe similar to one found at the crime scene. A warrant for Lucan's arrest was issued a few days later, and in his absence the inquest into Rivett's death named him as her murderer, the last occasion in Britain when a coroner's court was allowed to make such a determination...

Sandra Eleanor Rivett was born on 16 September 1945, the third child of Albert and Eunice Hensby..The family emigrated to Australia when she was two years old, but returned in 1955. Sandra was a popular child, described at school as "intelligent, although she does not excel academically"..Sandra normally went out with her boyfriend, John Hankins, on Thursday nights, but had decided to change her night off and thus, had seen him the previous day. The two last spoke on the telephone at about 8:00 pm on 7 November.. After putting the younger children to bed, at about 8:55 pm she asked Veronica if she would like a cup of tea, before heading downstairs to the basement kitchen to make one. As she entered the room, she was bludgeoned to death with a piece of bandaged lead pipe. Her killer then placed her body into a canvas mailsack..Lady Lucan realised her husband would be unable to hear her from the bathroom, and made her escape, running outside to the nearby "The Plumbers Arms" public house..

Officers also searched 5 Eaton Row, into which Lucan had moved early in 1973, and after interviewing his mother (who had called to take the children to her home in St John's Wood), his last address at 72a Elizabeth Street..By the time Detective Chief Superintendent Roy Ranson arrived at Lower Belgrave Street early on Friday 8 November, the divisional surgeon had pronounced Sandra Rivett dead and forensic officers and photographers had been called to the property..After removing her corpse from the canvas sack and beginning the post mortem examination, pathologist Keith Simpson told Ranson he was certain that Rivett had been killed before her body was placed in the sack, and that in his opinion the lead pipe found at the scene could be the murder weapon..Newspapers and television stations were told only that Lucan was wanted by the police for questioning..Ranson discovered that Lucan had travelled to Uckfield when he was called by Ian Maxwell-Scott, who told him that Lucan had arrived at his home a few hours after the murder, and spoken with his wife, Susan. While there, the earl had written two letters to his brother-in-law, Bill Shand-Kydd, and posted them to his London address. Maxwell-Scott also called Shand-Kydd at his country house near Leighton Buzzard and told him about the letters, prompting the latter to immediately drive to London to collect them..The Ford Corsair that Lucan had been seen driving and whose details had the previous day been circulated across the country was found on Sunday in Norman Road, Newhaven, about 16 miles (26 km) from Uckfield..

The forensic examination of the lead pipes found at the murder scene and in the Corsair's boot revealed traces of blood on the pipe from 46 Lower Belgrave Street.. This proved to be a mixture of Lady Lucan's (blood group A) and Sandra Rivett's (B) blood..The inquest into Sandra Rivett's death opened on 13 November 1974 and was led by the Coroner for Inner West London, Dr Gavin Thurston..Further adjournments were made on 11 December 1974 and 10 March 1975, before a full inquest was scheduled for 16 June 1975..He had selected 33 witnesses to be called over the following few days, including Veronica Lucan, who each day wore a dark coat and white headscarf..The landlord of "The Plumbers Arms" described how Lady Lucan had entered his bar covered "head to toe in blood" before she fell into "a state of shock".. He claimed that she shouted "Help me, help me, I've just escaped from being murdered" and "My children, my children, he's murdered my nanny", although no name was mentioned..In contrast to his defenders, the national press were almost unanimous in their condemnation of Lucan.. He continued to pay her £40 a week, although he may have cancelled their regular food order with Harrods..It turned out to be Limbitrol 5, a drug for the treatment of nervous disorders...

As Lucan's bankruptcy proceeded, in August 1975 his creditors were informed that the missing earl had unsecured debts of £45,000 and preferential liabilities for £1,326.. His assets were estimated at £22,632..The family silver was sold in March 1976 for around £30,000..What remained of his debts was repaid by the Lucan family trust in the years immediately following his disappearance..The Clermont Set was an exclusive group of rich British gamblers who met at the Clermont Club at 44 Berkeley Square, in London's fashionable Mayfair district now located at 27–28 Curzon Street and called Aspinall's.. It was the first London casino opened by John Aspinall after he received a gaming licence under Britain's new gambling law.. Clermont Club had become famous among British celebrities at once but Aspinall sold this club in 1972 to Playboy Enterprises; Playboy was forced to sell this club in 1982 when it lost its licence..The club was founded in 1962 by John Aspinall and the original membership included 5 dukes, 5 marquesses, almost 20 earls and 2 cabinet ministers..Society figures included Peter Sellers, Ian Fleming, David Stirling, Lucian Freud, Lord Lucan, Lord Derby, Lord Boothby, and the Duke of Devonshire...

More recently, responding to claims that the two eldest Lucan children were sent to Gabon in the early 1980s so that their father might secretly watch them "from a distance", George Bingham denied ever visiting the country.. His mother dismissed the newspaper claims of sightings as "nonsense", reiterating that in her opinion "he was not the sort of Englishman to cope abroad"..A set of bespoke golf clubs belonging to Lord Lucan have been found in the attic of a practice range where they were left days before he vanished..The gambling peer used to play and take golf lessons at the Knightsbridge Golf School..Esus or Hesus was a Gaulish god known from 2 monumental statues and a line in Lucan's Bellum civile...

It ultimately consisted of several rectangular light pillars with the designs of the flags of the se7en participating countries (plus the flag of the European Union).. Underground chambers.

Ron: "What do they think they're doing, keeping a thing like that locked up in a school? If any dog needs exercise, that one does."
Hermione: "You don't use your eyes, any of you, do you? Didn't you see what it was standing on?"
Harry: "The floor? I wasn't looking at its feet, I was too busy with its heads."
Hermione: "No, not the floor. It was standing on a trapdoor. It was obviously guarding something."
— Harry, Ron and Hermione[src]

Hagrid's Chamber

The only known way to access the Stone was through a trapdoor in the Third Floor Corridor, which was guarded by the three-headed dog Fluffy[1]. Fluffy had been purchased to a Greek man in The Leaky Cauldron by Rubeus Hagrid, and was later put into the third floor[1]. To get past this obstacle, one had only to play some music, which would then put Fluffy to sleep[1].

Hermione: "Devil's Snare, Devil's Snare... What did Professor Sprout say? It likes the dark and the damp —"
Harry: "So light a fire!"
Hermione: "Yes — of course — but there's no wood!"
— Harry, Ron and Hermione[src]

Sprout's Chamber
After going through the trapdoor, a long and dark drop through the air led into a chamber full of Devil's Snare, planted by the Herbology teacher Pomona Sprout[1]. The plant was designed to entangle and suffocate any intruders, especially quickly the more the intruder tries to escape[1]. Bluebell Flames, however, could be used to repulse them[1].

"They're not birds! They're keys! Winged keys — look carefully. So that must mean... Yes — look! Broomsticks! We've got to catch the key to the door!"

Flitwick's Chamber

A downwards sloping passage with stone walls, through which trickling water could be heard, led to a brilliantly lit chamber with a very high ceiling, full of glittering winged keys, charmed by Filius Flitwick[1]. On the opposite end of the chamber from the stone passage was a large, old-fashioned wooden door with a silver lock that would not open, even with the Alohomora Charm, without the necessary key[1]. One had to mount a broom and attempt to pursue the correct key; all of the keys fluttered away quickly, darting around, making it very difficult to catch the correct one[1].

"I think we're going to have to be chessmen."

McGonagall's Chamber

The next chamber was so dark that it was impossible to see anything[1]. It contained a Human Chess Game, which had been enchanted by Minerva McGonagall[1]. To get across the chamber, one had to checkmate the King according to the rules of Wizard's Chess[1].

Hermione: "Go on."
Harry: "I'm glad we didn't have to fight that one, come on, I can't breathe."
— Harry Potter[src]

After that came a chamber containing a mountain troll that needed to be knocked out in order to pass; it had a foul odour in it, and it was said that there was great relief in passing through it[1].

"Brilliant. This isn't magic — it's logic — a puzzle. A lot of the greatest wizards haven't got an ounce of logic, they'd be stuck in here for ever."

Potions Riddle

Snape's Chamber

The second-to-last obstacle guarding the Stone was a logical riddle set by Severus Snape[1]. Upon entering the chamber, the entrance was blocked by purple flames, whilst the exit was covered by black flames[1]. A table holding seven bottles of differing shapes and sizes sat in the centre of the room[1].

Each bottle contained a liquid, but the bottles were not labelled with their contents[1]. Three were poison, two contained nettle wine, one contained a potion to safely traverse the black flame, and the last contained a potion that allowed passage back through the purple flames[1]. The riddle, when properly worked out, revealed the contents of each bottle, and therefore which one was safe to drink to allow onward progress:
"Danger lies before you, while safety lies behind,
Two of us will help you, whichever you would find,
One among us seven will let you move ahead,
Another will transport the drinker back instead,
Two among our number hold only nettle wine,
Three of us are killers, waiting hidden in line.
Choose, unless you wish to stay here for evermore,
To help you in your choice, we give you these clues four:
First, however slyly the poison tries to hide
You will always find some on nettle wine's left side;
Second, different are those who stand at either end,
But if you would move onwards neither is your friend;
Third, as you see clearly, all are different size,
Neither dwarf nor giant holds death in their insides;
Fourth, the second left and the second on the right
Are twins once you taste them, though different at first sight." [src]

Based on Hermione's deductions, from left to right, the potions lineup is:[1]

Nettle wine
Potion to move the drinker forward through black flames
Nettle wine
Potion to move the drinker backwards through purple flames

Mirror of Erised

Mirror of Erised

Harry: "You!"
Quirrell: "Me, I wondered whether I'd be meeting you here, Potter."
— Harry Potter discovering Professor Quirell in the seventh chamber[src]

The final obstacle was the Mirror of Erised, designed and set by Albus Dumbledore[1]. The only way to obtain the stone was for an individual to look into the mirror and see themselves possessing the stone but not using it

The most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard.
George Carlin and Bill Hicks at their very finest!

The 7th Psychological Operations Group is a psychological operations unit of the US Army Reserve. Organized in 1965, it was a successor to US Army Broadcasting and Visual Activity, Pacific.. It is currently based at Moffett Field, California..

Nikolai Ge "Christ and Pilatus" ..

Nikolai Nikolaevich Ge (his French ancestors' last name was de Gay), Russian: Николай Николаевич Ге; 27 February [O.S. February] 1831 – 13 June [O.S. 1 June] 1894) was a Russian realist painter famous for his works on historical and religious motifs..

As an aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Navy wanted to use the airship hangars at Moffett for blimp operations along with Pacific Coast.. However, the Army, still stinging about having to transfer Rockwell Field to the Navy, resisted strongly.. Again the inter-service rivalry was overruled by the War Department, citing the Navy's need for coastal defense a priority and ordered the Army to move its training HQ to Hamilton Field in Marin County, north of San Francisco..Designed by German air ship and structural engineer Dr. Karl Arnstein, Vice President and Director of Engineering for the Goodyear Zeppelin Corporation of Akron, Ohio, in collaboration with Wilbur Watson Associates Architects and Engineers of Cleveland, Ohio, Hangar One is constructed on a network of steel girders sheathed with galvanized steel, covering 8 acres (3.2 ha)..The airship hangar's interior is so large that fog sometimes forms near the ceiling...

There have been bucketloads of Windows releases including the old DOS-based versions (3.0, 95, 98SE etc), NT-based New Technology versions (XP, Vista) and server versions, so it all depends what you want to count. On the Windows Team Blog, Microsoft's Mike Nash claimed: "Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore 'Windows 7' just makes sense." Later, he tried to justify that by counting all the 9x variants as version 4.0.

No count makes sense but Microsoft confusingly called its first NT operating system "Windows NT 3.1" and so the next major release was NT4. Windows 2000 naturally became 5.0, and after XP was released as 5.1, Vista became version 6. The next one therefore had to be Windows 7. And it sounds nice.

Of course, if you check Windows 7, it's actually numbered 6.1. There are lots of dumb programmers out there and — as with Windows XP — not incrementing the version number reduces the risk of software incompatibilities
See this term for WWW.

XP in Greek spells Chi Rho or Christos.

On a less esoteric but still slightly mystical note, the British band Madness are a 7-piece band, whose second single 'One Step Beyond' went to number 7 in the UK charts in 1979. (It was their first single for Stiff Records and apparently they were quite against its release; their label boss convinced them it would be a hit). Two subsequent singles over the next two years peaked at number seven, their third album as called 'Seven', and their original line-up's career spanned from 1979 to 1986.
