Theseus was the mythical founder-king of Athens, son of Aethra, and fathered by Aegeus and Poseidon, both of whom Aethra had slept with in one night. Theseus was a founder-hero, like Perseus, Cadmus, or Heracles, all of whom battled and overcame foes that were identified with an archaic religious and social order. Aegeus, one of the primordial kings of Athens, found a bride, Aethra who was the daughter of king Pittheus at Troezen, a small city southwest of Athens. On their wedding night, Aethra waded through the sea to the island of Sphairia that rests close to the coast and lay there with Poseidon (god of the sea and earthquakes)...

Aegeus was joined by Medea, who had left Corinth after slaughtering the children she had borne Jason, and had taken Aegeus as her new consort. Priestess and consort together represented the old order in Athens..According to sources, Theseus also was one of the Argonauts, although Apollonius of Rhodes states in the Argonautica that Theseus was still in the underworld at this time. Both statements are inconsistent with Medea being Aegeus' wife by the time Theseus first came to Athens. With Phaedra, Theseus fathered Acamas, who was one of those who hid in the Trojan Horse during the Trojan War. Theseus welcomed the wandering Oedipus and helped Adrastus to bury the Seven Against Thebes...

Quote:
Theseus decided to go alone by the land route and defeated a great many bandits along the way...The Six Entrances of the Underworld/At the first site, which was Epidaurus, sacred to Apollo and the healer Asclepius, Theseus turned the tables on the chthonic bandit, the "clubber" Periphetes, who beat his opponents into the Earth, and took from him the stout staff that often identifies Theseus in vase-paintings. At the time, Theseus was called the Mother Dog for many reasons\At the Isthmian entrance to the Underworld was a robber named Sinis, often called "Pityokamptes" (Greek: Πιτυοκάμπτης, "he who bends Pinetrees")/In another deed north of the Isthmus, at a place called Crommyon, he killed an enormous pig, the Crommyonian Sow, bred by an old crone named Phaea/Near Megara, an elderly robber named Sciron forced travellers along the narrow cliff-face pathway to wash his feet. While they knelt, he kicked them off the cliff behind them, where they were eaten by a sea monster (or, in some versions, a giant turtle). Theseus pushed him off the cliff\Another of these enemies was Cercyon, king at the holy site of Eleusis, who challenged passers-by to a wrestling match and, when he had beaten them, killed them. Theseus beat Cercyon at wrestling and then killed him instead. In interpretations of the story that follow the formulas of Frazer's The Golden Bough, Cercyon was a "year-King", who was required to do an annual battle for his life, for the good of his kingdom, and was succeeded by the victor. Theseus overturned this archaic religious rite by refusing to be sacrificed/The last bandit was Procrustes the Stretcher, who had two beds, one of which he offered to passers-by in the plain of Eleusis. He then made them fit into it, either by stretching them or by cutting off their feet. Since he had two beds of different lengths, no one would fit. Theseus turned the tables on Procrustes, cutting off his legs and decapitating him with his own axe\When Theseus arrived at Athens, he did not reveal his true identity immediately. Aegeus gave him hospitality but was suspicious of the young, powerful stranger's intentions. Aegeus's wife Medea recognized Theseus immediately as Aegeus' son and worried that Theseus would be chosen as heir to Aegeus' kingdom instead of her son Medus. She tried to arrange to have Theseus killed by asking him to capture the Marathonian Bull, an emblem of Cretan power...

Plutarch's vita (a literalistic biography) of Theseus makes use of varying accounts of the death of the Minotaur, Theseus' escape, and the love of Ariadne for Theseus. Plutarch's sources, not all of whose texts have survived independently, included Pherecydes (mid-sixth century BC), Demon (ca 300 BC), Philochorus, and Cleidemus (both fourth century BC).. E. Pottier, who does not dispute the historical personality of Minos, in view of the story of Phalaris, considers it probable that in Crete (where a bull-cult may have existed by the side of that of the labrys) victims were tortured by being shut up in the belly of a red-hot brazen bull...The story of Talos, the Cretan man of brass, who heated himself red-hot and clasped strangers in his embrace as soon as they landed on the island, is probably of similar origin..

Arrow Integrity

Any individual, man, or woman, that lacks integrity, should not waste time approaching the West Gate. There are many that would prefer to remain citizens of the profane world and that is as it should be; It is regrettable though that there are so many cowans about making mischief these days.

Masonic light illuminates the truth. Truth is not a relative word. Differences in religious, political, and philosophical beliefs are matters of personal opinion, but truth, as it is employed in day-to-day dealings with others, requires an absolute quality.

Individuals that attempt to deceive, who lack the virtues of honesty, transparency, humility, and tolerance, are not, and never will be, Freemasons.

It is unfortunate that in the world today there are many that claim the title "Freemason" yet through their actions betray their lack of Masonic virtues.

Spreading disinformation is hardly the behavior of a Freemason. Honesty and “circumscribing the passions” are concepts foreign to such people.

These “Masons” have no light to impart to anyone.

Wink Apollonian Grisket

In mathematics, an Apollonian gasket or Apollonian net is a fractal generated from triples of circles, where each circle is tangent to the other two. It is named after Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4tpocRl8ps

An Apollonian gasket can be constructed as follows. Start with three circles C1, C2 and C3, each one of which is tangent to the other two (in the general construction, these three circles can be any size, as long as they have common tangents). Apollonius discovered that there are two other non-intersecting circles, C4 and C5, which have the property that they are tangent to all three of the original circles – these are called Apollonian circles . Adding the two Apollonian circles to the original three, we now have five circles...

Möbius transformations are also isometries of the hyperbolic plane, so in hyperbolic geometry all Apollonian gaskets are congruent. In a sense, there is therefore only one Apollonian gasket, up to (hyperbolic) isometry..The Apollonian gasket is the limit set of a group of Möbius transformations known as a Kleinian group...

Lightbulb Xenophonetic

Xenophon (Greek: Ξενοφῶν; c. 430 – 354 BC), son of Gryllus, of the deme Erchia of Athens, also known as Xenophon of Athens, was a Greek historian, soldier, mercenary, philosopher and a contemporary and admirer of Socrates. He is known for his writings on the history of his own times, the 4th century BC, preserving the sayings of Socrates, and descriptions of life in ancient Greece and the Persian Empire..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oO6pCRe3pM

Diogenes Laertius states that Xenophon was sometimes known as the "Attic Muse" for the sweetness of his diction. Xenophon is often cited for promoting sympathetic training and humane treatment of horses in his "On Horsemanship"...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LHMF63PttM

Xenophon's writings, especially the Anabasis, are often read by students beginning the Greek language.. His Hellenica is a major primary source for events in Greece from 411 to 362 BC, and is considered to be the continuation of the History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides, going so far as to begin with the phrase "Following these events...". The Hellenica recounts the last seven years of the Peloponnesian war, as well as its aftermath. His Socratic writings, preserved complete, along with the dialogues of Plato, are the only surviving representatives of the genre of Sokratikoi logoi..The dialogues are either dramatic or narrative, and Socrates is often the main character...

Lightbulb 1936

The 1936 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XI Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event that was held in 1936 in Berlin, Germany. Berlin won the bid to host the Games over Barcelona, Spain, on 26 April 1931, at the 29th IOC Session in Barcelona (2 years before the Nazis came to power). It marked the second and final time that the International Olympic Committee would gather to vote in a city which was bidding to host those Games. The only other time this occurred was at the inaugural IOC Session in Paris, France, on 24 April 1894. Then, Athens and Paris were chosen to host the 1896 and 1900 Games, respectively...

To outdo the Los Angeles games of 1932, Germany built a new 100,000-seat track and field stadium,6 gymnasiums, and many other smaller arenas. They also installed a closed-circuit television system and radio network that reached 41 countries, with many other forms of expensive high-tech electronic equipment.. Filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, a favourite of Adolf Hitler, was commissioned by the German Olympic Committee to film the Games for $7 million.. Her film, titled Olympia, pioneered many of the techniques now common in the filming of sports..The games were the first to have live television coverage. The GPO, using equipment from Telefunken, broadcast over 70 hours of coverage to special viewing rooms throughout Berlin and Potsdam and a few private TV sets, transmitting from the Paul Nipkow TV Station..A total of 49 nations attended the Berlin Olympics, up from 37 in 1932...

The official budget did not include outlays by the city of Berlin (which issued an itemized report detailing its costs of 16.5 million marks) or outlays of the German national government (which did not make its costs public, but is estimated to have spent US$30 million, chiefly in capital outlays)..The next scheduled games in 1940 were awarded to Tokyo even though Japan was becoming an aggressive militaristic, nationalist state.. Japan's military adventures eventually rendered the Olympics implausible, and the military unreasonably demanded that the organizers build the venues from wood because they needed metals for the war front..

The Olympic village was located at Estal in Wustermark, (at 52°32′10.78″N 13°0′33.20″E), on the western edge of Berlin.. The site, which was 30 kilometres (19 mi) from the centre of the city, consisted of one to 2 floor dormitories, dining areas, a swimming pool, and training facilities..The German Olympic committee, in accordance with Nazi directives, virtually barred Germans who were Jewish or Roma or had such an ancestry from participating in the Games (Helene Mayer was the only German Jew to compete at the Berlin Games).. This decision meant exclusion for many of the country's top athletes such as shotputter and discus thrower Lilli Henoch, who was a 4-time world record holder and 10-time German national champion, and Gretel Bergmann who was suspended from the German team just days after she set a record of 1.60 meters in the high jump..The official reason given by the Nazis was because Fürstner had not acted "with the necessary energy" after 370,000 visitors had passed through the village - between 1 May to 15 June - causing significant damage to the site. However this reason was just a pretext to disparaging the half-Jewish officer and expediting his removal..In 1937, Holly-wood released the film Charlie Chan at the Olympics.. The plot concerned members of the Bearlin police force helping the Chi-nese detective apprehend a group of spies (of unnamed nationality) from trying to steal a new aerial guidance system..

"The sportive, knightly battle awakens the best human characteristics. It doesn't separate, but unites the combatants in understanding and respect. It also helps to connect the countries in the spirit of peace. That's why the Olympic Flame should never die."

— Adolf Hitler, commenting on the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games

"German sport has only one task: to strengthen the character of the German people, imbuing it with the fighting spirit and steadfast camaraderie necessary in the struggle for its existence."

Lightbulb The Book of Five Rings

Quote:
The Book of Five Rings (五輪書 Go Rin No Sho) is a text on kenjutsu and the martial arts in general, written by the swordsman Miyamoto Musashi circa 1645. There have been various translations made over the years, and it enjoys an audience considerably broader than only that of martial artists: for instance, some business leaders find its discussion of conflict and taking the advantage to be relevant to their work. The modern-day Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū employs it as a manual of technique and philosophy..Musashi establishes a "no-nonsense" theme throughout the text. For instance, he repeatedly remarks that technical flourishes are excessive, and contrasts worrying about such things with the principle that all technique is simply a method of cutting down one's opponent. He also continually makes the point that the understandings expressed in the book are important for combat on any scale, whether a one-on-one duel or a massive battle. Descriptions of principles are often followed by admonitions to "investigate this thoroughly" through practice rather than trying to learn them by merely reading...

Quote:
Know the smallest things and the biggest things, the shallowest things and the deepest things. As if it were a straight road mapped out on the ground ... These things cannot be explained in detail. From one thing, know ten thousand things. When you attain the Way of strategy there will not be one thing you cannot see.. You must study hard...

In strategy your spiritual bearing must not be any different from normal. Both in fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm..

Your attitude should be large or small according to the situation. Upper, Lower and Middle attitudes are decisive. Left Side and Right Side attitudes are fluid. Left and Right attitudes should be used if there is an obstruction overhead or to one side. The decision to use Left or Right depends on the place..

This is the most important method of hitting.. It is often used.. You must train hard to understand it...

As one man can defeat ten men, so can one thousand men defeat ten thousand.. However, you can become a master of strategy by training alone with a sword, so that you can understand the enemy's stratagems, his strength and resources, and come to appreciate how to apply strategy to beat ten thousand enemies..You must look down on the enemy, and take up your attitude on slightly higher places..These things cannot be clearly explained in words. You must research what is written here. In these three ways of forestalling, you must judge the situation. This does not mean that you always attack first; but if the enemy attacks first you can lead him around. In strategy, you have effectively won when you forestall the enemy, so you must train well to attain this..

"By knowing things that exist, you can know that which does not exist"...

Lightbulb RMS Olympic

Quote:
RMS Olympic was a transatlantic ocean liner, the lead ship of the White Star Line's trio of Olympic-class liners.. Unlike her younger sister ships, the Olympic enjoyed a long and illustrious career, spanning 24 years from 1911 to 1935. This included service as a troopship during the First World War, which gained her the nickname "Old Reliable". Olympic returned to civilian service after the war and served successfully as an ocean liner throughout the 1920s and into the first half of the 1930s, although increased competition, and the slump in trade during the Great Depression after 1930, made her operation increasingly unprofitable..

She was the largest ocean liner in the world for two periods during 1911–13, interrupted only by the brief tenure of the slightly larger Titanic (which had the same dimensions but higher gross tonnage due to revised interior configurations), and then outsized by the SS Imperator. Olympic also retained the title of the largest British-built liner until the RMS Queen Mary was launched in 1934, interrupted only by the short careers of her slightly larger sister ships..By contrast with Olympic, the other ships in the class, Titanic and Britannic, did not have long service lives. On the night of 14/15 April 1912, Titanic collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank, claiming 1,500 lives; Britannic struck a mine and sank in the Kea Channel in the Mediterranean on 21 November 1916, killing 30 people...

In 1888, Fridtjof Nansen captained the Jason to Greenland in order to attempt the first documented crossing of the island..The ship was sold to the Italian prince and explorer Luigi Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta and named the Stella Polare.. Amedeo gathered an expeditionary crew of Italian and Norwegian civilians and sailed from Christiana on 12 June of that year.. By the 30th, they had reached Archangel, Russia to load sled dogs onto the ship.. Leaving Russia, they headed for Franz Josef Land.. They landed in Teplitz Bay in Rudolf Island, with a hope to establish a winter camp for the expedition.. From here, they established a string of camps designed to supply each other with food and men.. During the expedition, Amedeo lost 2 fingers to frostbite, and had to hand command of the voyage over to Captain Umberto Cagni..Prince Luigi Amedeo organized an expedition towards the North Pole. In spring he arrived in the Norwegian capital Christiania (the present day Oslo) with 10 companions.. The duke acquired the Jason, a steam whaler of 570 tons.. Renamed Stella Polare (“Pole Star”) the ship took the expedition through the frozen sea.. On 12 June they headed for Archangel (Arkhangel’sk)...

The Stella Polare was trapped and threatened to sink.. Cagni barely managed to return to the camp on June 23...

Lightbulb Dream with Roy & HG

Games of the XXVII Olympiad..
Quote:
Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat was an unofficial mascot of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics created by Sydney cartoonist Paul Newell with Roy and HG from the Australian Channel Se7en sports/comedy TV program The Dream with Roy and HG, which covered the event.. He took the form of a life-size stuffed toy wombat with a lazy, cheerful expression and comically pronounced rump, and usually appeared on The Dream broadcasts...

Bicycle Race ..

The book is dominated by Wells's belief in a world state as the solution to mankind's problems. Wells successfully predicted the Second World War, although he envisaged it dragging on into the 1960s, being finally ended only by a devastating plague that almost destroys civilization.. Wells then envisages a benevolent dictatorship - 'The Dictatorship of the Air' (a term obviously modeled on 'The Dictatorship of the proletariat') - arising from the controllers of the world's surviving transportation systems (the only people with global power).. This dictatorship promotes science, enforces Basic English as a global lingua franca, and eradicates all religion, setting the world on the route to a peaceful utopia.. When the dictatorship finds it necessary to kill political opponents, the condemned persons are given a chance to emulate the ancient philosophers Socrates and Seneca and take a pison tablet in a congenial environment of their choice...

That, after all, is the crown of every education..The brotherhood of efficiency..That's only a part of the island..There's a very, very nice beach...http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...&postcount=714

Lightbulb Paralympic

Games...
Quote:
The Paralympic Games is a major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power (e.g. paraplegia and quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, Post-polio syndrome, spina bifida), impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency (e.g. amputation or dysmelia), leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment..The Paralympic Games are organized in parallel with the Olympic Games, while the IOC-recognized Special Olympics World Games include athletes with intellectual disabilities, and the Deaflympics include deaf athletes..

Hemimelia in an amphibian..

The first organized athletic day for disabled athletes that coin-cided with the Olympic Games took place on the day of the opening of the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. German born Dr. Ludwig Guttmann of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, who had been helped to flee Nazi G ermany by the Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (CARA) in 1939, hosted a sports competition for British World War II veteran patients with spinal cord injuries..The first games were called the 1948 International Wheelchair Games, and were intended to coincide with the 1948 Olympics..There have been several milestones in the Paralympic movement..The first official Paralympic Games, no longer open solely to war veterans, was held in Rome in 1960.. 400 athletes from 23 countries competed at the 1960 Games..

Crypt scene with Pretorius ..

Fibular hemimelia or longitudinal fibular deficiency is "the congenital absence of the fibula and it is the most common congenital absence of long bone of the extremities." It is the shortening of the fibula at birth, or the complete lack thereof. In humans, the disorder can be noted by ultrasound in utero to prepare for amputation after birth or complex bone lengthening surgery. The amputation usually takes place at six months with removal of portions of the legs to prepare them for prosthetic use. The other treatments which include repeated corrective osteotomies and leg-lengthening surgery are costly and associated with residual deformity..The cause of fibular hemimelia is unclear..A paralegal, like a lawyer, can be employed by a law office or work freelance at a company or law office...

Rugby union has been a men's medal sport at the modern Summer Olympic Games, being played at 4 of the first se7en competitions..On 13 August 2009 it was announced that the IOC executive board was recommending rugby sevens for inclusion in the 2016 Olympic Games and on 9 October 2009 the full IOC, at its 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen, voted to include Rugby Sevens in the 2016 games..Separate competitions for men and women will be held, using a similar format to the existing IRB Sevens World Series..France won the gold, beating Great Britain 27 points to 8 and defeating Germany 27 points to 17..

Anene Booysen (October 30, 1995 – February 2, 2013) was a 17-year-old girl who was found by a security guard the morning after she had been gang-raped and disemboweled by having her abdomen slit open at a construction site in Bredasdorp, in the Western Cape, South Africa on February 2, 2013; she was still alive..She died from her injuries in hospital 6 hours later.. She managed to identify one of her attackers before her death..A funeral was held at the Dutch Reformed Church in Bredasdorp, about 128 km east of Cape Town on February 9, 2013..On 13 Feb, a protest, led by Annie Lennox, was staged at St. George's Cathedral, Cape Town..Bredasdorp is situated at an elevation of between 40 and 120 metres (130 and 390 ft) on the slopes of the Heuningberg (Afrikaans for "Honey Mountain")..The town has a museum dedicated to the shipwreck of the Arniston, which is well worth a visit..

Ultimate Force Communication...

Leigh Matthews (8 July 1983 – 9 July 2004) was a South African university student who was kidnapped and murdered. Her disappearance and murder sparked a media frenzy, with the ensuing investigation and court case being one of the most closely followed in South African history, she was abducted from the parking lot at Bond University..On 21 July 2004, her body was discovered by a municipal worker cutting grass in the open veld next to the R82 highway in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg..She had been shot 4 times.. Although she was found naked, she had not been sexually assaulted..On 24 August 2004, top police detective Superintendent Piet Byleveld took over the investigation.. He identified 24-year-old Donovan Moodley as his prime suspect..Moodley was also a student at Bond University attended by Matthews, but was not acquainted with her..Steenkamp and Anene Booysen, both young South African women killed in 2013, were named SA Persons of the year 2013 by the Daily Maverick...

The Leigh Matthews Trophy is an annual award given by the AFL Players Association to the Most Valuable Player in the Australian Football League. It is named in honour of Leigh Matthews, who won the first MVP award in 1982, when the league was still known as the Victorian Football League.. The trophy was first awarded in 2002, and all previous VFLPA/AFLPA MVPs were retrospectively given the Matthews Trophy in 2005. It is awarded at a special AFLPA Awards ceremony..The Leigh Matthews Trophy is strictly for the most valuable player, not the best and fairest as is the case with the Brownlow Medal..

The Olympian started in 1860 as The Washington Standard, a weekly paper..In February, 1982, the paper's name was shortened from The Daily Olympian to The Olympian..Circulation 33,808 daily-41,677 Sunday ..

The first recorded visit by Europeans was in 1792 when Peter Puget and a crew from the British Vancouver Expedition charted the site.. In 1833, the Hudson's Bay Company established Fort Nisqually, a trading post at Sequalitchew Creek near present day DuPont, Washington.. In 1851, the U.S. Congress established the Customs District of Puget Sound and Olympia became the official customs port of entry requiring all ships to call at Olympia first.. In 1854, the customs house moved to Port Townsend at the entrance to Puget Sound to better monitor shipping activity..

Periodic earthquakes affect the Olympia area.. The 1949 earthquake damaged many historic downtown buildings beyond repair, and they were demolished..Olympia was the hometown of activist Rachel Corrie...

Lightbulb Camp Olaf Rye

Eidsberg church in Norway,..
Quote:
Ski jumping is a form of Nordic skiing in which athletes descend a specially constructed takeoff ramp (known as the inrun), jump from the end of it (the table) with as much power as they can generate, and "fly" as far as possible down a steeply sloped hill..Ski jumping is predominantly a winter sport and has been part of the Winter Olympic Games since its inception in 1924, but it can also be performed in the summer on artificial surfaces made from plastic.. Along with cross-country skiing, ski jumping is one of two sports which form the Nordic combined discipline..Olaf Rye (November 16, 1791, Bø, Telemark – July 6, 1849, Fredericia) was a Norwegian-Danish military officer..One of the lodges in the Fredericia chapter of the Odd Fellow Order..The Large Hill competition was included on the Olympic programme for the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck..

Lightbulb Cross-country

Martin Matsbo April, 1935..
Quote:
In 1767 Danish-Norwegian general, Carl Schack Rantzau, codified four classes of military skiing contests and established prizes for each:

Shooting at prescribed targets at 40-50 paces while skiing at "top speed" (precursor to biathlon)..

"Hurling" themselves while racing downhill among trees "without falling or breaking skis" (precursor to slalom)..

Downhill racing on large slopes without "riding or resting on their stick" or falling (precursor to downhill racing)..

"Long racing" with full military kit and a gun on the shoulder over ca. 2.5 km of "flat ground" within 15 minutes (precursor to modern cross-country skiing)..

An early record of a public ski competition was for an 1843 event in Tromsø.. The announcement called the event a "wagering race on skis".. A distinct alpine technique emerged around 1900 from how skiing was practiced up until then, when Mathias Zdarsky advocated the "Lilienfelder Ski Method" as an alternative to the Norwegian technique.. In Norwegian, langrenn refers to "competitive skiing where the goal is to complete a specific distance in groomed tracks in the shortest possible time"..At the first German ski championship, held at the Feldberg in the Black Forest in 1900, the Norwegian Bjarne Nilssen won the 23 km cross-country race and was observed using a skating motion while skiing—a technique unknown to the spectators...
