It's not "Americans" who have corrupted the US system of health care. It's big corporations and the corrupt politicians who pander to them.

When I was a kid in the 60's, we didn't have any of these problems. Every hospital had a nearby free clinic for the poor, and they had sign-up sheets for their Doctors and Nurses to schedule some of their free time to work in these clinics. The insurance companies and drug companies lobbied the govt to regulate this free system out of existence. The rest of the system was then setup as direct subsidies to consumers. Any time you subsidize any product like this the prices automatically begin to skyrocket. Insurance itself also acts just like a direct subsidy economically. That means we are heaping subsidy on top of subsidy direct to consumers for the product of health care, which itself is in business to maximize profit. On top of all that mess we have the corrupt politicians to pander to these for-profit health care corporations by creating laws and regulations that help them to literally strip-mine the economy at the expense of consumers.

Obamacare for instance is a prime example of how we get scammed by the corrupt politicians and health care corporations. We had what they said was 40 million people who could not get health care. The reasoning they gave us was that these people could not afford insurance. So, Obamacare was the supposed Knight on a White Horse that would come in and give insurance to all these 40 million people. This was a complete scam. The real reason that 40 million people cannot get health care is because our for-profit system is about 4,000% more expensive than it should be. It is so expensive that even people who have good paying jobs cannot afford even basic service without insurance. This is simply wrong. It's upside and backwards from how it should be because affordable health care that everyone can afford (given that the poor have free clinics to go to) has been driven out of existence by the politicians and corporations.

You cannot just give free health care to everyone now in this broken system given that health care costs so insanely high. It would bankrupt us isn a just a few years.

the solution has to be to figure out why is it that health care costs so insanely high and fix that first. But that will require unraveling a crony capitalist system that is corrupt to its very core.

Will single payer fix this? Maybe, maybe not. The problem now is, there are literally thousands of lobbyists and hundreds of corrupt politicians who will make sure that no solution that actually helps the people is ever implemented.
I think it a good thing that most civilized countries who provide a worthy health care system to their citizens have more faith in it's citizens than what Americans have.

I agree that your system is corrupted and that it needs a lot of work.

Single payer, as can be seen by the overall savings for the citizens, is obviously the way to go but if you cannot get rid of your corrupted systems, you will have to continue to pay a lot more than most of us.

Possibly, but that is better than having to declare bankruptcy if you happen to get ill.
