Photographed 22 July 1944, from a 300-foot altitude..

USS Solar (DE-221), a Buckley-class destroyer escort of the US , was named in honor of Boatswain's Mate First Class Adolfo Solar (1900–1941), who was killed in action during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.. He was credited with ... the early opening of fire by anti aircraft battery of the USS Nevada prior to the arrival of the battery officers at their stations..

April 1946 - Crew of Solar..

Her conversion to radar picket ship had been canceled and, with the declaration of V-J day in mid-August, her orders were changed again..She departed Boston on 7 September, for two weeks of refresher training at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba..On 30 April 1946, Solar was berthed at Leonardo Pier I of the Naval Ammunition Depot Earle, New Jersey, to discharge ammunition..The operation went smoothly until, shortly after 11:30, one of the crewmen dropped a hedgehog charge..3 ensuing explosions blasted the ship near her number 2 upper handling rooms.. Her number 2 gun was demolished and the bridge, main battery director, and mast were all blown aft and to starboard..Both sides of the ship were torn open, and her deck was a mass of flames.. The order to abandon ship came after the second explosion and was carried out expeditiously.. Nevertheless, the tragedy claimed the lives of 7 sailors and injured 125 others...

From all of us at Weather Watchers..

This unique maritime forecast, which is issued by the Met Office on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and broadcast on BBC Radio 4, is the longest running continuous forecast in the world..The Shipping Forecast began after a powerful storm off the coast of Anglesey in 1859 led to the deaths of 800 people and the loss of 133 ships...In 1911, the Met Office began issuing marine weather forecasts which included gale and storm warnings via radio transmission for areas around Great Britain..To sailors and sea captains, the forecast provides vital weather information..This phenomenon, called the "stack effect", causes the home to suck air up from the crawl space into the main area of the home..

Radio 4 Shipping Forecast..

The fourcast is read by Laurie MacMillan, born in Aberdeen on the east coast of Scotland..Graduating with a degree in Politics and Philosophy..The Haberdashers motto is Serve and Obey..Broadcast Saturday 18 December 1993 on Radio 4/BBC2 (or more accurately in the early hours 19th Sunday)..Sailing By is also played in full at the beginning of each weekly broadcast of the Shipping Forecast (approximately 23:30 on Sunday evenings) on Brooklands Radio, an internet-based local radio station in Weybridge, Surrey..In 1955, meteorologists from countries with North Sea coastlines met and recommended that the UK's sea area 'Heligoland' be renamed 'German Bight' to reflect more general usage amongst the nations concerned..They also recommended the divisions of 'Dogger' (with the north-eastern portion to be named 'Fisher') and 'Forties' (with the northern half becoming Viking), and the renaming of 'Iceland' as 'South-east Iceland' for greater clarity..Viking, Forties, Dogger, Fisher, Sole and Bailey are named after sandbanks..FitzRoy is named after Robert, the first professional weather forecaster, captain of HMS Beagle and founder of the Met Office...

USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) is the only ship of her class and the last conventionally powered carrier built for the United States Navy..The ship is named after the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, and is nicknamed Big John..Contracted as Ship Characteristic Board SCB-127C, the ship's keel was laid on 22 October 1964 by Newport News Shipbuilding..More than 52,000 tons of structural steel went into her construction–along with more than two million tons of weld metal..

President GHW Bush's live address..

John F. Kennedy is a modified version of the earlier Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carriers..The ship was officially christened 27 May 1967 by Jacqueline Kennedy and her 9-year-old daughter, Caroline, two days short of what would have been President Kennedy's 50th berthday..The ship entered service 7 September 1968..At 1,052 feet in length USS JFK would reach to the 84th floor of the Empire State Building..The ship carried two 30-ton anchors..There are 684 links of anchor chain, and each link weighs more than 350 pounds - Angela (26 August 1944 – 6 February 2002) was a New Zealand TV news anchor and actress..

Gulf War (006 of 374) - Desert Shield, 1990..

Kennedy's maiden voyage, and several of her subsequent voyages, were on deployments to the Mediterranean during much of the 1970s to help deal with the steadily deteriorating situation in the Middle East..It was during the 70s that Kennedy was upgraded to handle the F-14 Tomcat and the S-3 Viking..On 4 January 1982, JFK, with Carrier Air Wing Three (AC), sailed as the flagship for Carrier Group Four (CCG-4) from Norfolk, Va. on her ninth deployment, and her first visit to the Indian Ocean after port visits to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Malaga, Spain, and transiting the Suez Canal..In October 1983 John F. Kennedy was diverted to Beirut, Lebanon..In 1984 the ship was drydocked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for a one-and-a-half year complex overhaul and upgrades..In August 1988 Kennedy departed on her twelfth overseas deployment..During this deployment, a pair of MiG-23 Flogger fighter aircraft from Libya approached the carrier task force..During the course of the intercept, the MiGs were determined to be hostile and both of the Libyan aircraft were shot down..Kennedy returned to the U.S. in time to participate in Fleet Week in New York and Independence Day celebrations in Boston, Massachusetts before receiving an "All-hands" recall on 10 August 1990, for Operation Desert Shield.. She departed on 15 August 1990, and became the flagship for the commander of the Red Sea Battle Force..At midnight on 17 January 1991 Kennedy's Carrier Air Wing 3 commenced the very first strike operations against Iraqi forces as part of Operation Desert Storm..During her visit to Ireland, high winds in Dublin Bay caused the boarding pontoon to tear a large hole in JFK's hull...

Gulf War News - Australia..

It was a boiling hot day and the skies looked like something from a picture post card - On 3 July 1990, Adelaide became the first Australian warship to visit Tahiti since 1970.. In August 1990, two frigates HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Darwin and the replenishment ship HMAS Success left for the Persian Gulf..HMAS Success had no air defences so the Army 16th Air Defence Regiment deployed on this ship - Darwin entered service in 1984..During her career, Darwin has been deployed to the Persian Gulf on 5 occasions..Also it's important for Australia that the world understands big countries cannot invade small neighbours and get away with it..

Tagesschauausschnitte vom 13. August 1990..

George Robert Crawford (7 August 2012) was an Australian politician..He was born on 13 January 1926 in Prahran and was an official with the Plumbers and Gasfitters Employees Union of Australia, serving more than 20 years as general secretary and Victorian branch secretary - Shila is the first Malay artist to break through the Chinese music market - Face Off Kennedy and Senator Alan K. "Al" Simpson of Wyoming debate low interest loans to the Soviet Union - DeMarcus Amir Cousins is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the (NBA) Nicknamed Boogie - Your mission is also important for the world and we know that you will do it well and you leave with the best wishes of all Australians..As a result, the depression became "too weak to classify" for Dvorak technique, and the system had degenerated back into a tropical wave early on August 13..Hurricane Diana was the deadliest tropical cyclone during the 1990 Atlantic hurricane season, killing 139 people in Mexico..Heavy rainfall was also reported on the south coast of Haiti as Arthur approached the country...

OK, then... plan B, why don't we just kill each other?...https://forum.davidicke.com/showpost...&postcount=267

USS Saratoga - Gulf War (013 of 374) - Desert Shield, 1990..

The 5th USS Independence (CV/CVA-62) was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy..She was the fourth and final member of the Forrestal class of conventionally powered supercarriers..While virtually every naval vessel constructed prior to the early 1980s contained vast amounts of asbestos materials, aircraft carriers were particularly hazardous due to the storage of aviation fuel..In June 1990, with Carrier Air Wing 14 embarked, Independence departs San Diego on a routine WESTPAC.. On 2 August, in response to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, Independence was sent to deter further Iraqi aggression during Operation Desert Shield.. Arriving on station in the Gulf of Oman on 5 August, Independence was the first carrier to enter the Persian Gulf since 1974 - Lynne Russell (born 1, November 1946 in Orange, New Jersey) is an American former journalist and author..She was the first woman to solo anchor a prime time network nightly newscast - I send you my greetings..Tell Max that it concerns the Sandman..

Scot Chisholm Reporting - 017 of 374..

USS New Jersey (BB-62) was launched on 7 December 1942 (the first anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor) and commissioned on 23 May 1943..The USS New Jersey, one of the great Iowa Class Battleships, was reactivated in the late 1960s to serve during the height of the Vietnam War..Her forward 40mm guns were removed and then sealed and piped, painted blue and made into swimming pools..In 1983, a bloody civil war was raging in Lebanon.. Beirut barracks bombing—the U.S. government announced that New Jersey would be retained off Beirut although her crew would be rotated..Carrying on a tradition he had begun in World War II of spending Christmas with U.S. forces overseas, Bob Hope and his troupe of entertainers gave a show on board the New Jersey on 24 December 1983..The decision to decommission New Jersey robbed the battleship of the chance to participate in Ope-ration Desert Storm in 1991, a military campaign to forcibly remove Iraqi invasion troops from Kuwait..New Jersey earned nine battle stars for her World War II service, four for the Korean War, two for the Vietnam War, and four for action in Lebanon and the Persian Gulf region - Tradition stating that the Chisholms were a Norman family who arrived in England after the conquest of 1066..

Can you tell us why the violence is continuing?..
