![]() All new cars are to be fitted with a ‘black box’ that could tell your insurer the moment you are involved in a crash. The devices will also alert the emergency services to the accident – but data protection campaigners fear it could lead to ‘Big Brother surveillance’ of millions of motorists. They fear drivers will have their habits and destinations recorded and potentially sold on for commercial gain. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz37HaE5Ssp Don't be fooled into thinking this is a good thing, it's not. This is an EU thing called ecall. More spying and tracking on the public. So don't bother buying a new car from 2015 and avoid Volvo and BMW cars, as they have them already. We must find ways of thwarting this and disabling the device, tracker. I searched in google and more details on these links. http://recombu.com/cars/articles/new...l-new-vehicles http://blog.co-star.co.uk/tag/ecall/ On top of that, this about tracking vehicles entering Britain. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/car...ng-3m-tax.html Can you work out the programming going on? Oh yes, we must register our cars with a criminal government agency called, DVLA. ANPR must be used to track all these vehicles so we can get more money out of you. Big Brother 1984.

Is it compulsory with EU legislation or can you opt out by asking the dealer to remove the box?

I just halved my insurance by switching.
its hilarious really. I got a call from a complete bot trying to top it up a bit, when I refused her sales pitch she asked for a reason why I was refusing multiple damage claims or putting in the wrong fuel etc.... bollocks, I told her "because im fucking sick of paying for car insurance..." she sounded human for a nano second and said ok thankyou...

More surveillance tech
Also can the new computers be asked remotely to do things like fail the brakes or swerve the car?

Well there have been a couple of odd car crash deaths recently
That journalist guy in the US who had been investigating a general...his car exploded The the fast and furious guy...although that might have just been over exuberant driving But if they want to suicide people then brake failure gives plausible deniability

that's because your brain thinks 'if these are the last moments that i will exist, i will make them as focussed and as clear as possible - taking in every bit of info because it may be the very last chance at info it ever gets, so it makes the most of it.

i heard a radio ad a few days ago for 'drive like a girl' - an insurance policy that rewrads you if you 'drive like a girl' (so the ad' said...
In the ad was a girl talking to her mum and gushing at the thought of having a box in her car that recorded how much 'like a girl' she drove, and rewarded her with a great premium if she drove like a girl... this is how they usher these things in, give you an insentive and then make them compulsary... once they are over the threshold of implimenting them through choice they impliment them as standards. And we let them do it - because people are so fucking thick, they think they will save a few of those precious £'s! |

Been fitted to Range Rovers/Land Rovers for a few years.
A footballer from a lower league was jailed for lying after an accident and leaving a girl paralysed, because the police showed the court he was speeding at point of impact, all recorded by his onboard black box. Im sure this was around 2007. |

From a 2008 article, not the footballer one:
Power: Singh was driving a £57,000 Range Rover How black box kept track of danger driver Singh's trial used evidence from a device fitted to the airbag system of his Range Rover - the first time such technology has played a role in a British court. The Event Data Recorder, similar to an aircraft's black box, was used to establish that a force equivalent to 42mph was lost in one fifth of a second in the crash. This helped police put the defendant's speed at around 72mph. Data recorders in airbags can record a car's speed and deceleration and other information such as the pressure on a brake pedal at the time of a crash. Car manufacturers began installing them in vehicles in the 1990s to test airbag performance - early airbags often wrongly deployed in cars being driven over bumps. Data provided by the recorders has been used in the U.S. and Canada for the last ten years to investigate crashes and, in some cases, aid prosecutions. Experts predict such evidence will become an increasingly common in British courts. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/how-c...h-6615218.html Last edited by brassneck69; 13-07-2014 at 08:33 AM. |
