The Yellow River is called "the cradle of Chinese civilization", because its basin was the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization, and it was the most prosperous region in early Chinese history. However, frequent devastating floods and course changes produced by the continual elevation of the river bed, sometimes above the level of its surrounding farm fields, has also earned it the unenviable names China's Sorrow and Scourge of the Sons of Han..The Yellow River is one of several rivers that are essential for China's very existence. At the same time, however, it has been responsible for several deadly floods, including the only natural disasters in recorded history that have killed more than a million people. The deadliest was a 1332–33 flood that killed 7 million people. Close behind is the 1887 flood, which killed anywhere from 900,000 to 2 million people, and a 1931 flood (part of a massive number of floods that year) that killed 1–4 million people. In ancient times, it was believed that the Yellow River flowed from Heaven as a continuation of the Milky Way. In a Chinese legend, Zhang Qian is said to have been commissioned to find the source of the Yellow River. After sailing up-river for many days, he saw a girl spinning and a cow herd. Upon asking the girl where he was, she presented him with her shuttle with instructions to show it to the astrologer Yen Chün-p'ing. When he returned, the astrologer recognized it as the shuttle of the Weaving Girl (Vega), and, moreover, said that at the time Zhang received the shuttle, he had seen a wandering star interpose itself between the Weaving Girl and the cow herd (Altair).."The Yellow River running clear" was reported as a good omen during the reign of the Yongle Emperor, along with the appearance of such auspicious legendary beasts as qilin (an African giraffe brought to China by a Bengal embassy aboard Zheng He's ships in 1414) and zouyu (not positively identified) and other strange natural phenomena..The qilin is a mythical hooved chimerical creature known in Chinese and other East Asian cultures, said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler.. It is a good omen thought to occasion prosperity or serenity. It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body. It is sometimes called the "Chinese unicorn" when compared with the Western unicorn..Monoceros (Greek: Μονόκερως) is a faint constellation on the celestial equator. Its name is Greek for unicorn..Chinese asterisms Sze Fūh, the Four Great Canals; Kwan Kew; and Wae Choo, the Outer Kitchen, all lay within the boundaries of Monoceros..At the spiritual level Capricorn is symbolized by the unicorn, the fighting and triumphant creature of myth and fantasy..The goat has two horns and the unicorn one..The single straight horn of the unicorn represents the penetrating spiritual vision of the brow chakra or third eye...

http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...1&postcount=44In Chinese astronomy, constellation Capricornus lies in The Black Tortoise of the North (北方玄武, Běi Fāng Xuán Wǔ)..The Black Tortoise or Black Turtle is one of the 4 Symbols of the Chinese constellations. Despite its English name, it is usually depicted as a turtle entwined together with a snake.. Further, in East Asia, it is not called after either animal but is instead known as the "Black Warrior" under various local pronunciations. It is known as Xuanwu in Chinese, Hyeonmu in Korean, Genbu in Japanese and Huyền Vũ in Vietnamese. It represents the north and the winter season...http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...2&postcount=47

Lightbulb Journey to the West

Quote:
In the classic novel Journey to the West, Xuan Wu was a king of the north who had two generals serving under him, a "Tortoise General" and a "Snake General". This god had a temple in the Wudang Mountains of Hubei and there are now a "Tortoise Mountain" and a "Snake Mountain" on opposite sides of a river near Wuhan, Hubei's capital. Taoist legend has it that Xuan Wu was the prince of a Chinese ruler but was not interested in taking the throne, opting instead to leave his parents at age 16 and study Taoism. According to the legend, he eventually achieved divine status and was worshiped as a deity of the northern sky..Monkey Goes Wild About Heaven ...

Quote:
Journey to the West is a Chinese novel published in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty and attributed to Wu Cheng'en.. It is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. In English-speaking countries, the work is widely known as Monkey, the title of Arthur Waley's popular abridged translation..The novel has 100 chapters that can be divided into four unequal parts. The first part, which includes chapters 1–7, is a self-contained introduction to the main story. It deals entirely with the earlier exploits of Sun Wukong, a monkey born from a stone nourished by the Five Elements, who learns the art of the Tao, 72 polymorphic transformations, combat, and secrets of immortality, and through guile and force makes a name for himself, Qitian Dasheng (simplified Chinese: 齐天大圣; traditional Chinese: 齊天大聖), or "Great Sage Equal to Heaven". His powers grow to match the forces of all of the Eastern (Taoist) deities, and the prologue culminates in Sun's rebellion against Heaven, during a time when he garnered a post in the celestial bureaucracy. Hubris proves his downfall when the Buddha manages to trap him under a mountain, sealing it with a talisman for 5 hundred years..

Sun Wukong is the name given to this character by his teacher, Subhuti, the latter part of which means "Awakened to Emptiness" (in the Waley translation, Aware-of-Vacuity); he is called Monkey King. He is born on Flower Fruit Mountain from a stone egg that forms from an ancient rock created by the coupling of Heaven and Earth. He first distinguishes himself by bravely entering the Water Curtain Cave on the mountain; for this feat, his monkey tribe gives him the title of "Handsome Monkey King". After angering several gods and coming to the attention of the Jade Emperor, he is given a minor position in heaven as the Keeper of Horses (弼马温) so they can keep an eye on him..

Sun's behavior is checked by a band placed around his head by Guanyin, which cannot be removed by Sun Wukong himself until the journey's end. Xuanzang can tighten this band by chanting the "Ring Tightening Mantra" (taught to him by Guanyin) whenever he needs to chastise him. The spell is referred to by Xuanzang's disciples as the "Headache Sutra", which is the Buddhist mantra "oṃ maṇipadme hūṃ". Xuanzang speaks this mantra quickly in repetition..Sun Wukong's childlike playfulness is a huge contrast to his cunning mind. This, coupled with his great power, makes him a trickster hero. His antics present a lighter side in what proposes to be a long and dangerous
trip into the unknown...

Lightbulb Syracuse Triad

Quote:
Alpha Gamma Delta (ΑΓΔ) is an international women's fraternity, founded in 1904 at Syracuse University. The Fraternity promotes academic excellence, philanthropic giving, ongoing leadership and personal development, and a spirit of loving sisterhood.. Also known as "Alpha Gam", Alpha Gamma Delta's current membership exceeds 150,000.. There are currently 182 collegiate chapters, and over 250 alumnae clubs.. The longest running active collegiate chapter is Delta Chapter at the University of Minnesota. However, since recolonization in 2010, the oldest active collegiate chapter is the Alpha Chapter at Syracuse University. Alpha Gamma Delta is a member of the Syracuse Triad along with Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi...

While Alpha Gamma Delta does not have any official symbols, it does have official flowers, jewels, and colours.. AGD's flowers are red and buff roses, with green asparagus plumosa fern.. The jewel is the pearl.. The colors are red, buff, and green.. The armorial bearings of the fraternity was designed by founding member Emily Helen Butterfield in 1906..

Alpha Gamma Delta does have a mascot, a squirrel. The original mascot was given the name Skiouros. He was chosen by Gamma chapter in 1915 with the following explanation: "In the days when Gamma first made the triple colors of red, buff, and green her own, some of her energetic number sought a mascot to symbolize the characteristics of the colors and progress of Alpha Gamma Delta. In the autumn tints, so beautifully dear to us, they received the suggestion, and the little squirrel, typical frequenter of autumn haunts, was chosen as the mascot. Our little friend, we find, is also nimble and agile--he leaps from branch to branch and accomplishes such progress to symbolize the spirit that never dies, the
spirit of Energetic alertness and progress"...

Charles Heung Wah-Keung is a Hong Kong actor-turned-film producer and presenter. As founder of Win's Entertainment in the 1980s and China Star Entertainment Group in the 1990s, he has helped established the careers of various cinematic icons in Hong Kong that include Stephen Chow, Chow Yun-fat, Johnnie To, Jet Li and Andy Lau among countless others..In the 1970s, Charles subsequently married Betty Ting, the actress, who is remembered today primarily because of the "mysterious" death of Bruce Lee in her apartment. The marriage, however did not last, and Charles later married Tiffany Chen, in the early 1980s..Charles is the older brother of Jimmy Heung, who later became his partner in the formation of Win's Entertainment.. The partnership between the two ended in 1992..Heung is the Director of Jet Li One Foundation (Hong Kong) and the Director of Beijing Normal University One Foundation Philanthropy Research Institute..After surviving the 2004 South Asian Tsunami in Maldives, Jet Li started his long-time vision to action, i.e. to help the people in need. In 2005, Jet Li then established the Jet Li One Foundation in Hong Kong, a charity organization to help the Poverty and Victims of Natural Disaster...

On 20 July 1973, Ting received media attention when Bruce Lee died in her apartment at 67 Beacon Hill Road, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong.. According to press reports, Lee was going over the script of Game of Death in Betty's apartment, a Golden Harvest film in which she was reported to have a lead role, when he complained of a headache.. She gave him a single tablet of Equagesic, a strong aspirin-based drug that she often used herself.. He then went to sleep, but when she could not wake him up for a dinner appointment with Raymond Chow, the owner of Golden Harvest, Betty called an ambulance. Lee was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.. Death was allegedly caused by an allergic reaction that resulted in brain edema (swelling of the brain).. The coroner described his passing as "death by misadventure..In 1985, she retired from show business and allegedly became a Buddhist nun after appearing in her last movie, My Name Ain't Suzie...

Lo Wei (sometimes spelled Lo Wai, 12 December 1918 – 20 January 1996) - (aged 77) was a famous Hong Kong film director and film actor best known for launching the martial arts film careers of both Bruce Lee, in The Big Boss and Fist of Fury, and Jackie Chan, in New Fist of Fury..After Lee's death it was Lo who gave Jackie Chan his first shot at the big time as part of the wave of Bruceploitation. Lo is said to have been linked with Chinese organized crime, the Triads..In 1644, the Battle of Shanhai Pass placed the Qing Dynasty into power of mainland China upon defeating the Ming Dynasty. The ruling Qings were afraid of the Shaolin Monks and ordered them to be destroyed under Shunzhi Emperor. The Shaolin Monks fled and marked the beginning of Chinese secret societies.. According to folklore, only 5 Shaolin Monks survived and escaped, seeking refuge in the Sacred Mountains of China.. The 5 monks were referred to as The Triad 5 Elders and founded the martial art known as Ng Jo Kuen..The Tiandihui were believed to derive from Ming Dynasty loyalists and these Shaolin monks..During the 1800s, many such societies were seen as legitimate ways of helping new immigrants from China settle into a new country.. Secret societies were officially banned by the British government in Singapore during the 1890s and slowly stamped out by successive colonial governors and leaders over time..Triads have been engaging in counterfeiting since the 1880s.. Between the 1960s and 1970s, triads were involved in counterfeiting Chinese currency, often of the

Equagesic is a combination drug indicated for short-term pain treatment accompanied by tension or anxiety in patients with musculoskeletal disorders or tension headache..It combines 1.aspirin 325 mg (for pain relief) and 2.meprobamate 200 mg (used here as a muscle relaxant)..In some formulations,3. it is also quoted to contain ethoheptazine, an opioid analgesic..Equagesic was discontinued in the United States, possibly because of its toxic profile and more adequate drugs available.. Specifically, meprobamate is more toxic than benzodiazepines, which are also useful as a muscle relaxant...

A December 1955 study of 101 patients at the Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield, Mississippi, found meprobamate useful in the alleviation of "mental symptoms..Production continued throughout the 1960s, but by 1970 it was listed as a controlled substance after it was discovered to cause physical and psychological dependence...Although it was marketed as being safer, meprobamate has most of the pharmacological effects and dangers of the barbiturates (though it is less sedating at effective doses).. It is reported to have some anticonvulsant properties against absence seizures, but can exacerbate generalized tonic-clonic seizures...Tonic–clonic seizures are induced deliberately in electroconvulsive therapy..Meprobamate's mechanism of action is not completely known.. It has been shown in animal studies to have effects at multiple sites in the central nervous system, including the thalamus and limbic system. Meprobamate binds to GABAA receptors which interrupts neuronal communication in the reticular formation and spinal cord, causing sedation and altered perception of pain..Morphine and other poppy-based medicines have been identified by the World Health Organization as essential in the treatment of severe pain.. However, only six countries use
77% of the world's morphine supplies, leaving many emerging countries lacking in pain relief medication...

Arrow Hongmen

Quote:
The Tiandihui (Tian-Di Association or Heaven and Earth Society) (Chinese: 天地會; pinyin: Tiān Dì Huì) or Hongmen 洪门, is a fraternal organization that originated in China. As the Tiandihui spread through different counties and provinces, it branched off into many groups and became known by many names, including the Sanhehui..

The Hongmen is believed to consist of about 300,000 members worldwide, members found in China, Taiwan, and Chinese overseas communities. Membership is overwhelmingly ethnically Chinese but there are also Japanese members and a few white American members. The Hongmen is divided into branches, of which there are believed to be approximately 180. The largest of the branches, Wu Sheng Shan, consists of perhaps 180,000 members. Membership is said to be primarily working class, and is also said to include a considerable membership in the armed forces of the Republic of China (Taiwan)..Hongmen members worldwide continue to observe certain common traditions: they all stress their patriotic origin; they all revere Guan Yu, a historic Chinese figure who embodies righteousness, patriotism, and loyalty; and they all share certain rituals and traditions such as the concept of brotherhood and a secret handshake...

Today the Hongmen is an illegal society in Hong Kong, because of its links with the Triads, perceived or real..In Taiwan, by contrast, the Hongmen is not only legal, but politically influential; this came as no surprise, since Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China, was a senior figure within the Hongmen, as was nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek. Moreover, the Kuomintang, or Chinese Nationalist Party, was formed from the Xingzhonghui and Guangfuhui, groups not unlike the Hongmen..The organization also has business interests, and is reportedly trying to open a martial arts school in Taiwan..

The Hongmen continues to exist within numerous overseas Chinese communities, albeit with rapidly aging memberships; its main purposes today are to act as fraternities amongst overseas Chinese, and to participate in charitable activities. On July 28, 1992 the Hongmen held their 3rd Worldwide Hongmen Conference in the United States. Over 100 worldwide representatives attended for two days of discussion and adopted organizational rules, proclaimed the founding of a worldwide Hongmen association. First session President Li Zhipeng announced the construction of the Hongmen headquarters in Honolulu..

Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite is a music concert that was headlined by Elvis Presley, and was broadcast live via satellite on January 14, 1973. The concert took place at the Honolulu International Center (HIC) in Honolulu (now known as the Neal S. Blaisdell Center) and aired in over 40 countries across Asia and Europe (who received the telecast the next day, also in primetime). Despite the satellite innovation, the United States did not air the concert until April 4, 1973 (the concert took place the same day as Super Bowl VII). Viewing figures have been claimed by the promoters at over 1 billion viewers worldwide, although it has been debated
whether these figures are accurate...

In late 1941, Captain Rick Leland is court-martialed and discharged from the U.S. Coast Artillery after he is caught stealing.. He tries to join the Canadian Army, but is coldly rebuffed. He subsequently boards a Japanese ship, the Genoa Maru, in Halifax to make his way to China via the Panama Canal to fight for Chiang Kai-shek...

Chiang Kai-shek (October 31, 1887 – April 5, 1975) was a Chinese political and military leader who served as the leader of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975. He is known as Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Chieh-shih, 蔣介石) or Jiang Zhongzheng (Chiang Chung-cheng), 蔣中正) in Standard Chinese. Chiang was an influential member of the Kuomintang (KMT), the Chinese Nationalist Party, and was a close ally of Sun Yat-sen. He became the Commandant of the Kuomintang's Whampoa Military Academy and took Sun's place as leader of the KMT when Sun died in 1925. In 1926, Chiang led the Northern Expedition to unify the country, becoming China's nominal leader..Chiang's government and army retreated to Taiwan, where Chiang imposed martial law and persecuted people critical of his rule in a period known as the "White Terror". After evacuating to Taiwan, Chiang's government continued to declare its intention to retake mainland China. Chiang ruled the island securely as President of the Republic of China and General of the Kuomintang until his death in 1975. He ruled mainland China for 22 years, and Taiwan for 30 years...

As they arrive in Panama, the captain announces that the ship has been denied passage through the strategically vital canal and will be forced to take a long detour around Cape Horn.. Leland, Marlow and Lorenz disembark to wait for another ship. Several crates are unloaded addressed to a Dan Morton at the Bountiful plantation..Lorenz asks Leland, who was once stationed in the area, to procure up-to-date schedules for the American planes that patrol the canal. Leland meets with his local contact, A.V. Smith , and convinces him to provide the real schedules, as Lorenz could easily find out if he were given fake ones.. The date is December 6, 1941 - the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbour..Having delivered the schedules after haggling with Lorenz over their price, Leland is knocked out. He wakes up several hours later and finds out that both Lorenz and Marlow have left the hotel.. He immediately calls Smith and warns him to change the patrol schedule, then heads out to the Bountiful plantation, where he sees a torpedo bomber being prepared.. He is caught, however, and brought inside to Lorenz, Marlow, and Totsuiko..Marlow turns out to be the daughter of the plantation's owner, Dan Morton , a drunk whose weakness is being exploited by the spy ring to provide a base for its activities...

In China, Chicken McNuggets can come with the barbecue, sweet and sour, honey and hot mustard, or chili garlic sauce. Chinese menus also include crispy Buffalo chicken wings, called McWings. All chicken burgers offered in Chinese McDonald's use thigh fillet (e.g., Premium Grilled Thigh Fillet Burger, Hot and Spicy Grilled Thigh Fillet Burger), rather than breast meat, which is preferred in occidental countries..The Big 'n' Tasty is sold as the Big 'n' Beefy in the Chinese market, and is topped with cheese, cucumber, and mildly spicy Thousand Island dressing. Pies come in two standard flavors: pineapple or taro, although special flavors including chocolate, banana, and azuki bean have also been offered on a limited basis...

The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham is located in Siyuan Building on the Jubilee Campus of the University of Nottingham. The school is headed by Professor Shujie Yao, a professor of economics and has research staff and students from a wide variety of disciplines as applied to the Chinese case, for example: culture and society; history; politics and the political economy; languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese and languages of ethnic minorities such as Hakka); business and management; economics and finance; media and education. The School has grown rapidly since inception and now caters for more than one thousand students at the University of Nottingham taking undergraduate degrees which include a Chinese Studies component or who are enrolled in one of the School's own 4 year MSci degree courses, such as Global Issues and Contemporary Chinese Studies. Three new Masters courses were launched by the School in 2011, which include Chinese Banking and Finance Markets, and Chinese Business and Management in addition to the already existing MA in Contemporary Chinese Studies.

The Chinese Policy Institute (CPI) is a think tank embedded at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. It also functions as the research arm of the School. The Institute consists of an international network of academics and other highly knowledgeable people from a wide range of fields with a common focus on the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. This includes economics, finance, business and management, political economy, international relations, national security, politics, culture, society, science and technology, history and law. Among the many programmes at the CPI are a European Union funded EU-China Civil Society Dialogue; a separate EU funded programme to study Chinese perceptions of the EU, and a special Chevening Programme for the training of middle ranking Chinese officials. It also hosts a Taiwan Studies programme. The impact and significance of research carried out within the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies are delivered by way of the CPI..As a think tank the CPI takes no political stance and promotes collaborative research..The CPI publishes policy papers and working papers.

D. H. Lawrence commented on the endowment and the architecture in the words..

In Nottingham, that dismal town where I went to school and college,
they've built a new university for a new dispensation of knowledge.
Built it most grand and cakeily out of the noble loot
derived from shrewd cash-chemistry by good Sir Jesse Boot...

The foundation stone of the college was duly laid in 1877 by former UK Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, and the college's distinctive neo-gothic building on Shakespeare Street was formally opened in 1881 by Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany.. In 1881, there were 4 professors – of Literature, Physics, Chemistry and Natural Science. New departments and chairs quickly followed: Engineering in 1884, Classics combined with Philosophy in 1893, French in 1897 and Education in 1905; in 1905 the combined Department of Physics and Mathematics became two separate entities; in 1911 Departments of English and Mining were created, in 1912, Economics, and Geology combined with Geography; History in 1914, Adult Education in 1923 and Pharmacy in 1925..University College Nottingham was initially accommodated within the Trent Building, an imposing white limestone structure with a distinctive clock tower designed by Morley Horder and formally opened by King George V on 10 July 1928.. During this period of development, Nottingham attracted high-profile lecturers including Albert Einstein, H. G. Wells and Mahatma Gandhi, and the blackboard used by Einstein during his time at Nottingham is still on display in the Physics department...

Much of the work on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was carried out at Nottingham, work for which Sir Peter Mansfield received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2003..Major developments in the in vitro culture of plants and micropropogation techniques were made by plant scientists at Nottingham, along with the first production of transgenic tomatoes by Don Grierson in the 1980s...Other innovations at the university include cochlear implants for deaf children and the brace-for-impact position used in aircraft.. Other facilities at Nottingham include a 46 teraflop supercomputer..According to the latest statistics compiled by the Higher Education Statistics Agency, Nottingham is the UK's 5th largest university based on total student enrolment, with over 30,000 students from more than 130 countries..Nottingham is also a member of the 'Sutton Trust 13', a collection of the 13 highest ranking British universities compiled by the educational charity the Sutton Trust, which aims to challenge educational inequality at top universities..Nottingham is also ranked as the 8th best international university in the global

Arrow Dim Mak

Quote:
The Touch of Death (or Death-Point Striking) refers to any martial arts technique reputed to kill using seemingly less than lethal force targeted at specific areas of the body...The concept known as Vibrating Palm originates with the Chinese martial arts Neijing ("internal") energy techniques that deal with the Qi energy and the type of force (jin) used. It is depicted as"a technique that is part psychic and part vibratory, this energy is then focused into a wave"..There have been a number of martial artists claiming to practice the technique in reality, beginning in the 1960s, when the term was advertised alongside the English translation "The Death Touch" by American eccentric Count Dante..In 1985, an article in Black Belt magazine speculated that the death of Bruce Lee, in 1973, might have been caused by "a delayed reaction to a Dim-Mak strike he received several weeks prior to his collapse". Other authors, as well, have said the death of Bruce Lee may have been due to a "Quivering Palm technique" (alongside an article about Cai li fo instructor Wong Doc-Fai) to the effect that "dim mak does actually exist and is still taught to a few select kung fu practitioners." A 1986 book on qi identifies dim mak as "one of the secret specialities" of wing chun..On July 22, 1965, Dante was charged with attempted arson when he and an accomplice, Douglas Dwyer (The Second Deadliest Man Alive), were arrested while taping dynamite caps to a rival Chicago dojo.. Both claimed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time but Dante explained this was the result of a disagreement with the dojo's owner over payment for a tournament that Dante had arranged there..Count Dante died in his sleep of internal hemorrhaging caused by a bleeding ulcer, on May 25, 1975.. The Black Dragon Fighting Society that he founded came under the directorship of his personally chosen protégé and successor, William V. Aguiar..

Ryu-te (琉手 Hepburn: Ryūte) is an Okinawan martial art founded by Seiyu Oyata (親田清勇 Oyata Seiyū).. The word Ryu-te is actually an acronym meaning "Ryukyu Hand" with Ryukyu being a reference to the original name of Okinawa prior to it becoming part of Japan..Its practitioners consider Ryu-te neither a sport nor a form of exercise, but rather a method of training the body and mind for the betterment of mankind..Technically, Ryu-te is characterized by combining joint manipulation techniques (tuite jutsu) with effective strikes to the body's weak points (kyusho jutsu).. Ryu-te is principally derived from private, family styles.. Oyata first learned Okinawan weapons (kobudo) from Uhugushiku, a bushi and retired palace guard. He also studied with Wakinaguri, whose family was descended from the Chinese families who emigrated to Ryukyu during the Ming Dynasty.. Ryu-te is also influenced by Shigeru Nakamura's Okinawan Kenpo, as Oyata was a member of the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo Federation from the time of Uhugushiku and Wakinaguri's passing until Nakamura's death in 1968..The Black Dragon Fighting Society founded by Count Dante is an American martial arts organization and has no connection with and should not be confused with the Japanese Black Dragon Society, an ultranationalist secret society during the 1930s and 1940s..The various enmities culminated in the Dojo War incident of April 24, 1970 where Dante and some of his students went to a rival dojo of the Green Dragon Society's Black Cobra Hall. According to press coverage, upon entering the school, they claimed to be police officers and attacked the rival dojo's students..The brief battle resulted in the death of one of Dante's friends and fellow sensei, Jim Koncevic..Former mob lawyer Robert Cooley states in his autobiography When Corruption was King that he represented Count Dante during the trial following the 1970 Dojo War incident...Keehan also worked as a hairdresser...

Lightbulb Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

When China's reformers eased open the communist giant's doors to the world, they found Rupert Murdoch standing outside in his best suit with a bunch of flowers.. Used to being courted by those in power, Murdoch made a clumsy suitor. If the billionaire media mogul thought he could swagger into China and add the world's biggest audience to his News Corp empire, he quickly discovered that things worked differently in the Middle Kingdom.. The communist leadership kept the 'ultimate capitalist' at arm's length..

Nonetheless, amid many blunders and much wasted money, News Corp managed to connect China to the world through the Internet and to transform its staid television service into a popular-entertainment medium. But was Beijing simply using Murdoch to help the country modernise and to rehabilitate its image in the wake of Tiananmen Square?

Bruce Dover, Murdoch's man on the ground in China for much of the 1990s, delivers a rollicking insider's account of doing deals at the highest level of business and politics. In this intimate portrait of the impulsive billionaire in his prime, Dover describes fatefully introducing his boss to Wendi Deng, the woman who would become his second wife -
News Corp's future has a Chinese face after all...

Quote:
Wendi Deng Murdoch (simplified Chinese: 邓文迪; traditional Chinese: 鄧文迪; pinyin: Dèng Wéndí; born December 8, 1968) is a Chinese-born American businesswoman. She was the third wife of News Corporation chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, who filed for divorce from her in June 2013..In 1988 Deng was sponsored by an American family for a student visa.. She attended Cal State Northridge for economics and completed her master’s degree in business at the Yale School of Management, where she currently serves on the board of advisers.. Deng's debut in the media came with Fox TV. She was offered an internship at Star TV, Hong Kong, part of News Corporation..Wendi Deng Murdoch was born in Jinan, Shandong, and raised in Xuzhou, Jiangsu. Her birth name was Deng Wenge (邓文革), Wenge meaning “Cultural Revolution...In 1985, at age 16, she enrolled in Guangzhou Medical College, derived from 2 nearby mountains known as Pan and Yu in ancient times..Guangzhou is the third largest Chinese city and the largest city in South Central China. As of the 2010 census, the city's administrative area had a population of 12.78 million..

She received a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University at Northridge and an MBA from the Yale School of Management, where she currently serves on the board of advisers..In 2011 she made her producer debut with the release of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, a movie about two footbound children in ancient China. When Deng was living with Jake and Joyce Cherry during her studies in the United States, Joyce Cherry discovered her husband, Jake, was having an affair with Deng, who was 30 years his junior, and demanded she leave the house.. Jake Cherry soon followed and moved in with her, and the two married in 1990. Their marriage lasted 2 years 7 months before they were legally divorced, but Jake would later explain they stayed together for only four or five months, when he learned that Deng was spending time with David Wolf, a man closer to her age.Nonetheless, she had been able to secure a green card through her marriage to Cherry...

In 1997 she met Rupert Murdoch at a company party in Hong Kong.. They married in 1999, less than three weeks after the finalization of his divorce from his second wife, Anna Maria Torv Murdoch Mann. Wendi and Rupert have two children, Grace (born 2001) and Chloe (born 2003). Tony Blair is, controversially, Grace Murdoch’s godfather..On February 5, 2014, the Daily Telegraph of UK published a report claiming Deng had a crush on Tony Blair, leading to her divorce from Murdoch.. The report stated that the Australian media mogul began to hear rumors about his wife in 2012 and is said to have interviewed staff members at his various homes to ask them what they had seen..According to the magazine, Murdoch learned that Blair had visited Deng at the Carmel ranch on more than one occasion. Blair allegedly spent the weekend of April 27, 2013, with Deng at the property. Other sources are quoted as placing Blair and Deng at The Carlyle in New Yorka private yacht, and at Murdoch’s home in London.., on Deng gained press attention when she counter-attacked Jonathan May-Bowles, who pied her husband during a highly publicized testimony before a British parliamentary committee in the News International phone hacking scandal..May-Bowles was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment.. The incident was televised and her fame spread, even back to her native China...

The People's Liberation Army crossed the Jinsha River on 6 or 7 October 1950 and defeated the Tibetan army by 19 October.. Instead of continuing with the military campaign, China asked Tibet to send representatives to Beijing to negotiate an agreement. The Dalai Lama believes the draft agreement was written by China, and Tibetan representatives were not allowed to suggest any alterations. China did not allow the Tibetan representatives to communicate with the Tibetan government in Lhasa. The Tibetan delegation was not authorized by Lhasa to sign, but ultimately submitted to pressure from the Chinese to sign anyway, using seals which had been specifically made for the purpose..The agreement was signed by Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme, who advocated Tibetan acquiescence to China, and sealed in Beijing on 23 May 1951 and confirmed by the government in Tibet a few months later...

Britain hands over millions of pounds in aid to China despite the Communist state boasting the second biggest economy in the world, beaten only by the US..Official figures show Britain gave Beijing £27.4million last year..

Public finances out of control..

At the very time tax revenues are declining and a debt crisis is ravaging the global economy, our politicians have chosen to go on an unprecedented spending splurge. To fund it, the Government borrowed a monumental £170.8 billion last year. If all goes well, we're set to borrow another £167.9 billion this year..This kind of deficit is far greater than during the recessions of the 80s and early 90s and even higher than when Britain went cap in hand to the IMF in 1976.. This isn't money saved for a rainy day.. Because we continued to rack up debt in the good years, this latest spending spree is fueled by one big borrowing binge...

In constrast, most PEs lack such capability because they are assemblers purchasing existing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) subystems such as airframes, flight control systems (FCS) and propulsion systems and integrating these subsystems together into final products of their own..The Chinese UAV market is projected to be ¥ 10 billion in 2015,and within next 2 decades, it is expected to increase to ¥ 46 billion.. As the end of 2013, there are over 15.000 UAVs operating in China in the civilian sector alone..Joker 3 UAV is an unmanned helicopter developed by Blue Sky by integrating COTS airframe with flight control system indigenously developed by Blue Sky. Joker 3 is in conventional helicopter layout with a pair of skids as landing gear system..According to Chengdu, the Pterodactyl I has been undergoing flight testing and has proven successful, with the flight test program including weapons tests of both bombs and air-to-surface missiles..An unknown number of Pterodactyl UAVs were purchased by Saudi Arabia in May 2014...Height: 2.77 m..Propellers: 3-bladed...
