SARAH VINE: Why I fear the gender agenda is harming our children - after a 4,415% rise in girls wanting to change sex last year
By Sarah Vine for the Daily Mail

About time, too. This week Penny Mordaunt, the Equalities Minister, finally ordered an inquiry into one of the great mysteries of our age: why so many young people are seeking to change their gender.

Ten years ago gender dysmorphia in children was a vanishingly rare condition. Even in 2009, for example, the number referred for gender treatment was 97.

Last year it was 2,519. By far the steepest rise has been among girls: up from 40 to 1,806, the equivalent of a staggering 4,415 per cent increase.

And, of course, those numbers do not include those ‘self-identifying’ without medical supervision, of which there are many more.

I am not saying that many of these cases are not genuine — those that are deserve wholehearted support.

But can such numbers really be down to better awareness of the condition, and the lifting of stigma surrounding it? Or might there be other factors at play?

What they DON'T tell you on the label: How chlorine sprays, chemical washes and shiny waxes that can catch FIRE are just some of the hidden horrors being put on your supermarket fruit and veg

Tina DeMille, 52, posted video on Facebook setting fire to 'plastic' cabbage
Herbicide and plant growth regulator approved for use in the EU on fruit and veg
Chlorpropham is used on potatoes to prevent their sprouting during storage
Modified Atmosphere Packaging to get oxygen out of ready-to-eat stir fry packs

Ever pondered whether you can set fire to a cabbage? Neither had mother-of-six Tina DeMille, until she started to strip off the outer leaves of a cabbage purchased from her local supermarket — and was stopped in her tracks.

'I was just about to start cooking when I thought: 'Hang on a minute, it looks like plastic',' said the married hairdresser from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

So, taking a lighter, Mrs DeMille, 52, took the somewhat unusual step of attempting to set fire to one of the leaves.

The result? What she described as a burning 'plastic' smell and flame. She duly videoed her experiment and posted it on Facebook.

While Mrs DeMille did not return the cabbage to the Tesco from where it was purchased, she has been so rattled by her experience that she's vowed to change the way she and her family eat for ever.

'It must have been treated with something to make it smell like that,' she said. 'It's really concerning and made me wonder how other fruit and vegetables are treated — we now eat only organic and are getting an allotment to grow our own.'

well if it does that to the guts of bees then what does it do to our guts?

Monsanto's global weedkiller harms honeybees, research finds
Glyphosate – the most used pesticide ever – damages the good bacteria in honeybee guts, making them more prone to deadly infections

The world’s most used weedkiller damages the beneficial bacteria in the guts of honeybees and makes them more prone to deadly infections, new research has found.

Previous studies have shown that pesticides such as neonicotinoids cause harm to bees, whose pollination is vital to about three-quarters of all food crops. Glyphosate, manufactured by Monsanto, targets an enzyme only found in plants and bacteria.

However, the new study shows that glyphosate damages the microbiota that honeybees need to grow and to fight off pathogens. The findings show glyphosate, the most used agricultural chemical ever, may be contributing to the global decline in bees, along with the loss of habitat.
