An alleged victim of Rolf Harris, who was found guilty of all 12 charges of indecently assaulting four girls in the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties yesterday, wrote to the Queen to warn her of his predatory behaviour.

The woman sent a letter claiming that the veteran TV presenter, 84, had attacked her as a child to Buckingham Palace in 2005 as he painted the monarch’s portrait.

“He ruined my life. You need to know what kind of man you’ve let near the Queen,” she wrote to royal staff.

The notes, which remained anonymous, were handed to Scotland Yard’s Royal Protection Group, who certified their credibility and filed them as evidence.

However, they remained uninvestigated until Harris became an official suspect in 2012.

Scotland Yard have thus far declined to comment on the letters.

How many more celebs are the subject of 'notes' and evidence neatly tucked away in police files?

My guess is many. And many more younger celebs. Sexual abuse didn't end in the 80s. Cover-ups continue to this day.

Looking at the big picture, as a nation we've really, truly and profoundly lost our way. When all the public institutions we trusted have completely betrayed us honest, decent, law-abiding people and our most vulnerable - not just once or twice, but chronically, serially, everywhere. It's like a way of life with them. It's so entrenched in our services and 'higher' echelons that they obviously don't realise that it's wrong. Some might well call it insanity.

@sweetcheeks - thanks for your kind words.

Child porn purge kept secret from Harris jury

Convicted child sex offender Rolf Harris downloaded pornography using search terms like "Youngest Teen Porn" and tried to erase his browsing history, it has been revealed.

The explosive evidence never heard by the jury emerged today after the once beloved entertainer was found guilty of all 12 charges for the indecent assault of four girls over two decades.

A court-ordered internet blackout ensured the damaging allegations, which first came to light during the pre-trial arguments, could not be reported until the verdict.

London jurors were also banned from hearing from other witnesses within entertainment circles who claimed that Harris had abused young women.

Prosecutor Sasha Wass QC told the court that Harris, 84, had searched dirty sites with names like Russian Virgins, My Little Nieces and Youngest Teen Porn, collecting a gallery of images involving "very young people in various levels of forbidden poses" – some under the age of 13.

Ms Wass said Harris had returned "over and over" to some images, with one file allegedly downloaded and deleted four times.

Harris' defence argued that the images were a result of accidental downloads and that his computer also contained some 328 images of adult porn.

"If it was an accident it appears it was one he had a number of times," Ms Wass said, pointing to handwritten entries in Harris' diary detailing how to erase files as an acknowledgment of guilt.

The damning claims come in what will almost certainly be the aging and unwell entertainer's last days of freedom.

Commentary: no MP should name 'paedophile' ex-minister yet
Simon Danczuk should stress inquiry call at parliamentary hearing, argues Exaro's editor

Worth a read. Interesting use of the quote marks in the title & this paragraph caught my eye:
"The danger is another 'McAlpine moment'. A disasterous report in 2012 by BBC2's Newsnight - based on a case of mistaken identity - led Lord McAlpine, the late former Conservative treasurer, to be wrongly accused of sexually abusing a boy in care."

Default Pre-judgement

Ceej,

With the best will in the world, I don't think you can really complain about the authorities/society's refusal to listen when, in your case, there was a gap of 37-years during which time they were simply not informed!

We can hardly lambast them for failing to possess psychic abilities, surely?

"Since 1975, I've lived with the knowledge of this man's real nature, the knowledge of how he abused my friend. Neither she nor I told any authorities. We knew, without any doubt, that no one would believe her.
And that's how it's been. For all these many decades. And for hundreds of thousands of victims of sexual abuse. All with shattered lives.
I'm lucky. I'm not a victim of CSA. But I AM a victim of my society's profoundly obscene refusals to hear any victim's pleas for help and the pleas of supporters of victims for help and justice.

Bandini,

I take it you're not a scared, traumatised 17yr old girl or a 9yr old little girl or a 2 yr old toddler surrounded by a culture that is determined to ignore and bury your reports of powerful men abusing you?

I take it you've never had to report and seek help for any abuse?

Your comment is either naive or disingenuous.

Sorry Ceej, but as I made clear in my post the abuse of which you wrote was not reported for 37 years. Therefore, you are not in a position to state that they tried to bury the report - there was no report!

That's neither naive nor disingenuous. But we're not quite in 'Minority Report' territory just yet - we can neither re-write the past nor judge the future. If you wish to apportion blame based on an imagining of what might have happened - had you raised the matter earlier - you'll have to allow me to do the same:

Could more than three-decades of offending have been avoided had the matter been raised at the time? The sympathetic ear of an honest & decent policeman is perhaps all that was needed... but we'll never know. An uncomfortable thought, no doubt.

Disingenuous is to blame the police/etc. for failing to act on a matter about which they knew nothing!

The Thatcher Room?

Oh, irony! The biggest enabler of them all, with Savile, Morrison, Clark, not forgetting a couple of nameless (for now!) ministers down Elm House.

Even her image maker Lord Bell was a flasher...

FFS. What else are they covering up?

But at least he can never say that he didn't get a fair trial, which is much more than all his many victims were treated to over the years.

Thanks for posting this. Wonder why UK press isn't reporting it. Oh wait...time to return to default wussy cover-up mode.

Exactly, but looks like he may be facing some further action in the future.

Danczuk wants to hear from Brittan:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-28113517

The missing dossier is in public focus at last.

"The police have confirmed that Cyril Smith had been a visitor to Elm Guest House. Mr Danczuk said he had spoken to a victim Smith had abused there and that "other high profile figures are alleged to have attended there."

Finally the story about Leon Brittan is in the public domain and has been reported by the MSM (namely the BBC news link as quoted by pete675 above)

"Simon Danczuk said that a dossier of allegations about paedophiles was presented to Leon Brittan when he was home secretary between 1983 and 1985........

He said a dossier of allegations, compiled at the time by the former Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens, had been presented to Mr Brittan.
"

Leon Brittan

I get some simple satisfaction in being able to post that name as it has been the contentious issue that has seen me temporarily suspending too many times in the very recent past.

Justice soon cometh me thinks for the Elm Guest House visitors including Leon Brittan!

Today's Home Affairs Committee with Simon Danczuk MP, discussing Cyril Smith, coverup/protection and CSA Inquiry. He had at one stage threatened to name paedophile Minister during the committee meeting.

Well worth a listen, for reasons that will become obvious

124 MPs now support call for CSA Inquiry.

Former Home Secretary Leon Brittan urged to step forward and share 'his thoughts' on child sex abuse dossier sent to Whitehall in 1980s

Labour MP Simon Danczuk appears at Home Affairs Select Committee
Calls on former Cabinet minister to 'share his knowledge' on what was done to fight child sex abuse in the 1980s
A file making allegations of a Westminster network of paedophiles was sent to the Home Office, claims Danczuk
Lord Brittan said: 'I will be issuing a statement tomorrow lunchtime about the handling of such papers in the Home Office'

A former Home Secretary should reveal what he knows about a dossier sent to Whitehall detailing allegations of a Westminster paedophile ring, an MP who has investigated historic sex abuse told Parliament today.

Lord Brittan, then Leon Brittan, was Home Secretary in the 1980s when a file was sent to his department 'about paedophiles operating a network within and around Westminster', Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk told fellow MPs.

Mr Danczuk told the Home Affairs Select Committee that the Tory peer should 'share his knowledge' about the file which was passed to the Home Office while he was in charge but has not come to light.

Lord Brittan was elevated to the Lords in 2000 after a fifteen years in the Commons and 10 years at the European Commission. He was also knighted in 1989.

Tonight, Lord Brittan said: 'I will be issuing a statement tomorrow lunchtime about the handling of such papers in the Home Office.'

Mr Danczuk appeared before MPs on the Home Affairs Select Committee after accusing the late Liberal MP Sir Cyril Smith of being a paedophile.

The Rochdale MP told the Committee that politicians were in denial about the problem and called for a wide-ranging Hillsborough style inquiry into abuse.

Mr Danczuk said Smith had been protected by people 'higher up the food chain' in the networks he belonged to, and claimed the former Rochdale MP had attended a south-west London guest house at the centre of allegations of abuse.

'He attended Elm Guest House, we know that, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed that. I spoke to a victim he abused at Elm Guest House. There were other high profile figures that it is alleged attended Elm Guest House.'

Mr Danczuk said Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens 'produced a dossier in the 1980s which he presented to the home secretary about the Paedophile Information Exchange (Pie), about paedophiles operating a network within and around Westminster'.

He added: 'The home secretary was Sir Leon Brittan and I think it would be helpful if he stepped forward and shared his thoughts on where that dossier is.

'This is all in the public domain, but I do think it would be helpful for Sir Leon Brittan to share his knowledge of how he dealt with these allegations that were made at the time.'

Asked what happened to the dossier Mr Danczuk said: 'That's an interesting question. We know that it arrived at the Home Office but we don't know where it is since.

'The inquiry that we talk about has to get to the bottom of this and I think people like Sir Leon and others need to share their knowledge and understanding of what was going on at the time.'

Mr Danczuk said politics was 'the last refuge of child sex abuse deniers'. He said: 'Other institutions, the police, have dealt with this and changed their culture.

'The local authorities are beginning to change the way that they deal with it. The media are keen to investigate this.

'But in terms of politics, I think there is a continual view that we should sweep it under the carpet, that we shouldn't speak about it, that we shouldn't name people, that there shouldn't be a discussion about what's gone on in terms of sex abuse.'

The Labour MP said he had faced pressure not to name those allegedly involved in sexual abuse and said only an inquiry could 'bring all the different strands together'.

'I don't have all the answers, but we have to understand why the authorities failed to investigate such high-profile cases.

'I think such an inquiry would also get to the bottom of where some of the dossiers and the information that's existed and that's been collected over the years, where it is and how that can be used to identify what went on at the time.

'Not only will that help and support the victims of abuse, but I think it will also ultimately lead to a number of other perpetrators being identified.

Mr Danczuk also defended use of public money to pursue historical sex offences as 'completely justified'.

'I never came into politics to examine child sex abuse," he said.

'But because I've met a good number of victims through the work that I've been doing, I do believe it's important to give a voice to the voiceless, to the people that don't really get a chance to share their views and experiences.'
