Siouxsie and the Banshees

Cities In Dust

"Cities in Dust" is a song written and produced by British rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was released as the first single from their seventh studio album Tinderbox in 1985. The "Cities in Dust" 12-inch single was the first Banshees' single-release in the United States, through Geffen Records.

The song obliquely describes the city of Pompeii, destroyed in a volcanic eruption in 79AD. Imagery describing the volcano and its magma chamber, the condition of the victims of the eruption, and the subsequent discovery and excavation of the city comprises the bulk of the lyrics.

"Cities in Dust" was a more post-punk affair than singles released by Siouxsie & the Banshees in the previous several years. It also had more of a pop music melody than past releases from the band, although its cryptic lyrics were still dark, mentioning a shrine to Lares Familiares. Its upbeat 4/4 rhythm also made it a hit in danceclubs. "Cities in Dust" peaked at number twenty-one in the UK singles chart. Although not Siouxsie & the Banshees' first song to hit the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, it was their first significant hit, climbing to number seventeen.

Overground

Got to give up life in this netherworld
Gonna go up to where the air is stale
And live the life of pleasantries
And mingle in the modern families

Overground from abnormality
Overboard for identity
Overground for normality
Overboard for identity

This limbo is no place
To be a digit in another space
In another crowd
I'm nameless bound

Overground from abnormality
Overboard for identity
Overground for normality
Overboard for identity

Overground, I'll be worse than me
Overground, it's clear to me
Overground, I'll be worse than me
Overground, it's clear to me
Overground, I'll be worse than me
Overground, it's clear to me
I'll be worse than me

Cool Something to keep me wired...

Steppin' Out

The video starts out nicely, with shots of Hollywood nightspots, but then quickly degenerates into photos of stitched up celebrities and beaver shots....

Nineteen Forever
http://youtu.be/a-fK7dzecmc

"We'll all be rock and roll stars..."

Sometimes I feel so alive
Sometimes I see so clear
Just like the way we always were
So young and free from fear

I lose my fear of war and dying
And all the clouds just disappear
Only my mirror sees me crying
Each time I lose another year

Wouldn't it be a drag to be like you?
Settling down and having kids
And telling them what to do
Well I'm gonna stay

(19 forever)
Yes I'm
(19 forever)
I'm gonna be
(19 forever)
Yes I will
(19 forever)

We can do magic in these times
Be what we want to be
We'll all be rock n' roll stars
Immortal on TV

And if you see me looking tired
I've just been sleeping thought the day
But I got something to keep me wired
So we can dance the night away

Wouldn't it be a drag to be like them?
They're gonna sell out everything
But I won't get fooled again
'Cause I'm gonna be

(19 forever)
Yes I will
(19 forever)
No man, I want to sell
(19 forever)
Yeah, I'm gonna be
(19 forever)

You better believe it
You know my dream's still alive
You can love it or leave it
But I'm never gonna be 35

(19 forever)
Yes I'm
(19 forever)
Well, I'm gonna be
(19 forever)
Now, I want to sell
(19 forever)

(19 forever)
Well I'm gonna stay
(19 forever)
This is my life
(19 forever)
(19 forever)
Yes I'm

(19 forever)
(19 forever)
You better believe in
You better believe in
Come on
One more time

Lightbulb El Dorado

Neil Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and film director. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 1995 and also as a member of Buffalo Springfield in 1997.

Young's work is characterized by deeply personal lyrics, distinctive guitar work, and signature tenor singing voice. Although he accompanies himself on several different instruments—including piano and harmonica, his clawhammer acoustic guitar style and often idiosyncratic electric guitar soloing are the linchpins of a sometimes ragged, sometimes polished sound. Although Young has experimented widely with differing music styles, including swing, jazz, rockabilly, blues, and electronic music throughout a varied career, his best known work usually falls into either of two distinct styles: acoustic folk/country ("Heart of Gold", "Harvest Moon" and "Old Man") and electric-charged hard rock (like "Cinnamon Girl", "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)"). In recent years, Young has adopted elements from newer styles like industrial, alternative country and grunge. Young's profound influence on the latter caused some to dub him "the Godfather of Grunge".

El Dorado
http://youtu.be/KKM1TRl6-FU

In the crystal ball
The gypsy sees the villa
The riders on the hill
The fire in the fields
She sees the mission bell
Swinging in the silence
Now the shooting starts
The bullets pierce the hearts
The seqoritas crying at the well.
Up in the Gold Hotel
The money hits the table
The heavies all are there
That's why the deal's goin' down
Beautiful women all dressed in
Diamonds and sable
Down upon the street
Beside a garbage heap
A Mariachi band begins to play.
Somewhere a blues guitar
Plays echoes in the alleyway
The Tijuana dawn
Claims another day
The golden sun
Rises on the runway
The pilot understands
The money changes hands
Inside the jet
the briefcase snaps. Goodbye.
In Eldorado town
There lives a great bullfighter
His eyes are screaming blue
His hair is red as blood
And when the gate goes up
The crowd gets so excited
And he comes dancin' out
Dressed in gold lami
He kills the bull
and lives another day.

Don't You Forget About Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=jpc7TBhilFI

Great song by Kerr & co, and theme from the excellent movie The Breakfast Club. (sorry, the video box won't come up - watch on youtube)

Dear Mr. Vernon,

we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you're crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are.

You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out, is that each one of us is a brain,

and an athlete,

and a basketcase,

a princess,

and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

The Breakfast Club.

Cool instrumental...I've ridden a greyhound or two and he really captures the feel of rolling across the desert on some dirty bus with no future and too poor to care....

"stand up to the blow

that fate has struck upon you.

make the most of all

you still have coming to you.

lay it down on the ground

and let the tears run from you

crying to the grass and trees

and heaven finally

On your knees

Let me live again

let life come find me

wanting

Spring must strike again

against the shield of winter

let me feel once more

the arms of love surround me

telling me the dangers past

I need not fear the icy blast

again

Genesis - Undertow
