Die deutschsprachige Ecke

Ossis, Wessis, Ösis, Wiener Schmäh, Schweitzer, Tiroler, Nord-Italiener aka Bayern, Fischköppe, Pinguine; willkommen!

Plenty of negative German stuff, so this is not the place for that.

Default Kurt Schwitters- not DaDa

Kurt Schwitters is generally acknowledged as the twentieth century's greatest master of collage. Just as collage is essentially the medium of irony, so Schwitters' life is characterized by paradox and enigma.

Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau

Merzbau is a vast architectural/sculptural project of the poet and visual artist Kurt Schwitters. Schwitters himself has described it as his life's work. The construction was first begun in Hannover, Germany

just don't call him Dadaist

Ludwig van Beethoven
I was tempted to post him but I really felt I would be hogging the Big Three so i am going to avoid the other one too (guiess who folks!)

Instead I am going to post another composer who, althouh undoubtedly world famous, is to my mind, a little overlooked occasinally.

To anybody reading: please listen to this. IMO it is the single most beautiful piece of music ever composed for the violin and I know many other violinists who would agree.

Schubert String Quintet in C II Adagio Part 1

Here we go again!

As a matter of fact I do love Germany.

I fell in love with Deutchland while I was in Heidelberg. But I realised later that I had always loved the culture through their music.

It is simply one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It's just fun making fun of Germans sometimes.

I'll try to behave.

Braun

Braun products have been shown more frequently at exhibitions than those of any other comparable company. Some people find that they reflect basic human values such as authenticity and integrity. For others, they are the very incarnation of German perfectionism. Braun is not merely a trademark; it stands for an all-encompassing concept. For the last five decades, this concept has spawned innovative products with an unprecedented regularity that begs to be explained - especially as the era spanned by the history of Braun design is not exactly one characterised by continuity.

I understand considering recent history but I don't want another three pages of slanging matches when there is so much great culture to be discussed!

Great, plenty for everyone to contribute and/or learn!

That is a new use of the word "fact" I had previously been unaware of.

You know whenever somebody begins a sentence "Of course it's fact that..." they invariably state something totally unsubstantited.

For example, "Of course it's fact that I have a ten inch cock."

Quote:

That is probably for the best.

Back on topic...

words fail to describe the sublimity of the human voice when put to such music!

If anybody reading this is feeling stressed, listen these three minutes, I guarentee you will feel better.
