Smile Keeping the Sly Stone theme...

Let's just make it a Sly thread for now...but other artists to come.

You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
Push a little harder
Think a little deeper
Don't let the plastic bring you down

(All together now)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
Time still creepin'
Specially when you're sleepin'
Wake up and go for what you know

(All together now)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
You'll get what's due you
Everything coming to you
You got to move if you want to be ahead

(All together now)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
Time still creepin'
Specially when you're sleepin'
Wake up and go for what you know

(All together now)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

You can make it if you try
Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma make it
You can make it if you try
Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa make it
You can make it if you try...

You have to marvel at how relevant Sly's music and message still are. As a band, I would put them in my top ten of favourite artists.

Totally agree with that. He also had a magic way of making, what was basically a anti-establishment, fight the system message sound incredibly uplifting and joyous...fucking class!

Dunno if you've seen this thread. I've been exploring a few related themes:

It doesn't get any better or more epic than Clint Mansell - Requiem for a Dream.

Default Walls Come Tumbling Down

Forget the dodgy Haircuts and Berlin themed video...the lyrics in this song are highly conscious and relevant now. Check it out:

Default So relevant!

Sitting here in limbo, but I know it won't be long
Sitting here in limbo, like a bird without a song
Well they're putting up resistance
But I know that my faith will lead me on

Sitting here in limbo, waiting for the dice to roll
Sitting here in limbo, got some time to search my soul
Well they're putting up resistance
But I know that my faith will lead me on

I don't know where life will lead me
But I know where I've been
I can't say what life will show me
But I know what I've seen
Tried my hand at love and friendship
But all that is passed and gone
This little boy is moving on

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the tide to flow
Sitting here in limbo knowing that I have to go
Well they're putting up resistance
But I know that my faith will lead me on

I don't know where life will lead me
But I know where I've been
I can't say what life will show me
But I know what I've seen
Tried my hand at love and friendship
But all that is passed and gone
This little boy is moving on

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the tide to flow
Sitting here in limbo knowing that I have to go
Well they're putting up resistance
But I know that my faith will lead me on

Sitting in limbo, sitting in limbo
Sitting in limbo, sitting in limbo
Sitting in limbo, sitting in limbo
Sitting in limbo limbo limbo ....

from 'The Harder They Come' (soundtrack, 1972)

This is nice, but does anyone here on the forums have some inspirational music they created themselves?
