Question Early Christmas Decorations.

I meant to start this thread earlier in the week, but forgot to. Has anyone noticed any houses with their decorations up already? If so, then please don't tell me the sighting occurred on Monday, or previous to that, which would have been in November. It does seem to be happening earlier and earlier every fricking year nowadays, at least from what I can make out.

Lightbulb Santa would be angry.

I saw the first ones go up down my road yesterday. So that is a full 20 days before Christmas. What on earth are these people thinking? The popular carol should be changed to 'The 32 Days Of Christmas' then. Or perhaps 'The 29 Days Of Christmas' might be more apt, as some of these folks probably take them down on 2nd January. It really grates me and I don't think I am being a Scrooge for saying it.

When I was a young numnuts we used to put ours up on the evening of the 22nd at the earliest, that's December not November by the way, and on occasion as late as Christmas Eve. None of my school friends had theirs up any earlier than a week before either. Thinking back, I actually remember it being very special decorating the Christmas tree with my siblings on Christmas Eve. It made Christmas morning feel that much more special as well.

I am sure there are many parents out there being pestered by their kids to get theirs up really early, especially if their proverbial friends 'already have done', but I say hold them off if you can bear the inevitable moaning. It might actually make your Christmas much more enjoyable and memorable! No harm in at least trying it out for one year. Happy Easter to everyone the way.

Unbelievable amount of houses with decorations up around here now. It is like Blackpool lights in the night time. They started appearing about a week ago and there were even the odd ones in November. Getting earlier and earlier every year. Nothing goes up in our house until about a week before xmas and even then its just the bare minimum.

One house near us has a huge light display, but, I actually love it. There's nothing very xmassy about them. They're a pale golden/white colour and made up of an endless length. They've been draped all through their trees in their garden, so it's a very warming sight indeed.

The darkness is depressing. I don't like it.

With regards to the overt xmas lights, especially the ugly blue ones, the startling white ones and so on, not my cup of tea. They're using LEDs in them?? So the light has no warmth, it's very stark and cold.

If people would all do warm, fuzzy golden lighting all year round, I'd be happy. But we all know what the lights and bling at this time of year brings.....

Nice lights:

It has got to that sad stage down my road now too.

Crikey, that is just so fricking insane I can't even begin to get my head round it.

I can understand a week, as some folks might have practical reasons for doing so. It's not something that can be set in stone, as in 'if anyone puts up their Christmas decorations any more than a week before Christmas they are a loon', but I have to say that anything much more than a week before is really pushing the boundaries. It's 11th December now and no one should have their Christmas decorations up yet. I am not looking to offend anyone and it's just how I feel.

I think a lot of it might be down to peer pressure. You get a few idiots putting theirs up at the end of November and then it's a domino effect. By the time you get to 10th December, those who still haven't perhaps think that they might be branded ISIS or muslim if they don't jump on board. All the Christmas adverts on TV and the decorations going up at shopping centres probably doesn't help matters either, while those with children inevitably suffer more pressure. Well, this is one form of peer pressure, kids or not, that I will never submit to. I wouldn't care if I am the last person in the country with my Christmas decorations still not up. They will never go up more than a week beforehand and that's that. Bah! Humbug!

I honestly don't know the answer to this question, but maybe some other folks can help me out here. Do any of the muslims, hindus, judaists, sikhs etc. also put up decorations in their houses up to 4 weeks before a major religious festival? Do any of the above wish each other a happy Diwali, or equivalent, up to 4 weeks beforehand? I would be very surprised if they do, but I stand ready to be corrected. If not, then I suppose the excessive commercialism associated with Christmas might help better explain this current phenomenon, but it's still no credible excuse though. It's probably the least religious of the bunch, pseudo-christians, who do most of the early, excessive and mindless celebrating.

I have got nothing whatsoever against 'Winter Lights' being put up around December and January. As long as overtly Christmas stuff is kept out of it, then I like them too. I started this 'Early Deco Spotting' in the 'Have a laugh' sub-forum, as I did find it very amusing on some level, but on reflection it is actually quite depressing. Maybe I will be visited by some ghost, to help set me straight, on 13th December. Humbug!

P.S. I can just imagine the scene when Bob Cratchit went to ask Scrooge for the month of December off.

Arrow Revenge is sweet.

I showed them all this year! I took down our decorations on 6th January, as is traditional, but I left the Christmas tree up on purpose for an extra fortnight. I did this to irritate everyone coming past our residence, as the tree is quite visible from one of our lounge windows you see. Yes, I must have annoyed all those nutjobs, who put all their decorations up in November and take them down on 1st or 2nd January, good and proper. The reason is that they must be so sick of Christmas, after paying homage to the festival for 5 weeks solid, that they mentally can't bear to be reminded of it any more. Serves them all right too.

P.S. We put up all our decorations on Christmas Eve this year and it definitely makes Christmas feel much more special that way.

I don’t like it when everybody throws out their evergreen trees like they’re a piece of rubbish. clearly people who do that don’t care much about vegetation.

Me too, I bought a fake tree with lights about 6 years ago now, and lots of lights, not much other decorations. I have lights out the front of the house and lights out the back on the verandah. I start this on December 1st and take it all down end of second week in January.

I do not 'celebrate' anything at all, I just love the pretty lights inside and outside my house.

These past few years I do have intentions. I am celebrating my freedom to do this and to show the friggin muslims that they have christian based belief people in the community. The muslims and NWO are forcing all signs of chrisitanity out of our schools and shopping centres, work places and more but they cant stop us in our homes. (I am sure they will try though).
Not sure what I believe about religion being taught at schools or not, but I you certainly cannot take away from the fact that our laws are based on biblical and common law, with christian values, and I do object severely when the muslim minority (soon to be majority at the rate they breed) are demanding huge changes in the Australian values and way of life.

So YES, I put my christmas tree and lights up for as long as possible and always will from now on. It is all so pretty and I love pretty stuff. This world is far too depressing without it.

My fairy lights stay out all year round. It doesn't have to be Christmas to make your mantlepiece sparkle, nor need it be Halloween to dress like a witch.

Why does nobody care that the first picture in the article is itself a fake?

Oh yeah, Trump-hate trumps reality.
