Bible Describes a Rotating Earth

It is clear that the early Biblical scholars knew that the earth was round and rotated around the sun.

You do realise that instead of showing us where the bible says the earth rotates you've instead shown us that the bible says the sun goes round the earth?

Which is in agreement with other parts of the bible. Joshua's stopped sun, Psalms 19:6 and Ecclesiastes 1:5 for instance.

And the earth isnt round, it's spherical... Pancakes are round.

As far as I'm aware it was the prosecutors who thought the bible was a science book and used it as such, much like the op. Galileo used his observations and theories instead, while the court refused to even look at the evidence through his telescope.

I found Ecclesiastes Chapter 1 and the verse 5...
"The Sunne also ariseth, and the Sunne goeth downe, and hasteth to the place where he arose."

Seems to imply the sun going round the earth.

The elites wanted the masses to think that they controled the sun and moon.
The serfs were not allowed to travel anywhere. Those that could travel were told that the world was flat and a person could fall off the edge if they wandered too far.

This was great for the Roman Empire. Other areas of the world knew better.
Asia knew better. Arabia knew better. Africa most likely knew better. The Americas knew better. The shadows that were easy to see were like the shadows on round things like fruit and river rocks.

Any different opinion from that of the elites in Rome was likely to be a death sentence if know to the authorities. The pagans dared not speak out.

In at work atm, using my mobile connection, so it's hard work finding links but I will say that the records were never released by the Vatican so nobody knows for certain what happened and it's basically all hearsay.

Hawking gives a good lecture where he tells about the time he went to a cosmology conference at the Vatican and was told by the Pope that "it was OK to study the universe after it began, but they should not inquire into the beginning itself, because that was the moment of creation, and the work of God". Little did they know he'd just finished writing a book explaining why god isn't needed for the big bang, and he didn't want to mention it for fear of facing an Inquisition.

And I believe he asked to see Galileo's court records while he was there, after being asked if there was anything he wanted to see, but was politely declined.
