Yes, I think there can be many different paths towards an evolved state. Here is another thread about probably the same thing: http://forum.davidicke.com/showthread.php?t=114141

Many spiritual teachers talk about how we should surrender. Is that a good thing? Yes! By surrendering the ego a higher state of consciousness can emerge.

Your body cannot feel really good and become fully healthy unless you surrender your ego. Why? Without surrender ego consciousness will remain and continue to try to numb out the body into aging and death. Not good. So the ego has to be discarded.

How to surrender the ego? There are probably many methods available. Some say that only grace can surrender the ego for us and that we can't do it ourselves. That's bollocks no doubt since that would mean a kind of separation between the grace and ourselves, which would mean a false belief in separation. So we most likely can surrender the ego ourselves. A simple way is to stop burdensome thinking. Recognise that you don't HAVE to think fearful, heavy, worrying and burdensome thoughts. You do have a choice. And the recognition of that choice is the beginning of the surrendering of the ego.

Is becoming passive a surrendering of the ego? No. Becoming passive is a choice of the ego. True surrendering is to shift your awareness away from your thinking and into your body and into the environment around you.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Some spiritual teachers talk about many different paths to the top of a mountain. The paths are different but they all lead to the same destination.

the paths are only different because the persons experience is different which is like everyone having the same exact car but each painted differently

All ego relationships are based on fear. That includes relationships with people, material things, events, past and future etc. In unity consciousness all your relationships are based on love. What we need to do is to abandon all our relationships for they are a false view of reality.

As Vernon Howard said about the ego, something like: You will call it love, but it's not going to feel like love.

Vernon Howard talking about ego consciousness:

Observe your own thoughts and notice the immense suffering in them! That's at least what I discovered recently. That's the ego consciousness! Yikes.

Everybody who is still in ego consciousness will have that kind of suffering. We need to change that. Fast!

Instead of using a strong approach, it's probably more effective to use a gentle practice where the thoughts are recognised as causing suffering which will make the mind reprogram itself since it now sees the cause of the suffering.

Money is a big ego tool. How to deal with money and at the same time move towards unity consciousness?

When there is fear, struggle and conflict in earning and spending money, then that is of the ego.

When there is inner peace in relation to earning and spending money, then that is unity consciousness.

So aiming at earning and spending money with inner peace is the direction of unity consciousness.

Do you want inner peace or do your want money? At first you might think that having money will give you inner peace, but that's a mistake. Even when you have money you will have the fear of losing the money or that there is not enough money and that you will be poor in the future.

So money in itself will not give true inner peace. True inner peace comes with the realisation of oneness and the entering into unity consciousness.

That's a huge relief! Potentially, at least. If unity consciousness is possible in practice. Because then you can ignore your worry about money and go directly for the true inner peace by entering unity consciousness where you experience money as a flow without total separations.

Become peaceful in relation to time. Observe carefully your own thoughts about time how much worry there is in them. Thoughts about time can be even worse than thoughts about money, health and relationships.

Does time have a terrible grip on you or are you free from worry about time? True power in relation to time comes when you can relax your thoughts about time. It's an enormously powerful feeling to be able to dissolve one's own worrisome thoughts about time. You have that power! You have the power to choose to follow burdensome and stressful thoughts about time or to dismiss them.

Lack of power comes when you are afraid of dropping your burdensome thoughts about time. Then time has you. You are then a slave to time. You experience yourself as a separate fragment that has to worry about time as something separate from yourself. First know that time is one with you. Then you get the power to truly manage time the way you want to.

What is the ego? The ego is the belief of being a separate agent (the word agent according to the dictionary as in one that acts or has the power or authority to act).

The ego is a false belief. Therefore the ego is confused. Correcting the false belief in the ego results in the ego consciousness being replaced by unity consciousness.

The ego belief is deeply rooted in the mind. Therefore a radical shift in the mind is needed to change it. Close to the root of the ego is the perception of time and how we believe that we have to deal with time as separate agents. Surrendering that management of time as separate agents is a good start for changing the belief in the ego.

Drop your concerns about time. This in turn means dropping all other things related to time, such as money, health and relationships etc.

With ego consciousness we will grow old and die. This is so because the belief in separation creates that reality. In unity consciousness we neither age nor die because there is then no separation between ourselves and the rest of the universe. And even the belief that the universe will die some horrible heath death is also a false ego belief, as Kevin Kelly has talked about:

Think of physical reality as a projection and your body as an avatar. You can change your body by just changing the projection! So the physical age of the body is just one such projection. Reality is in the eternal now. Just as in a computer game you can change your avatar from an old man to a young girl or into whatever body, so too can our physical bodies change. We need to evolve much more probably before we can do that, but in theory it's very possible. At the very least through the means of super advanced technology.

So the belief in aging and death is of the ego. That belief needs to be dropped for us to be able to enter unity consciousness.

If unity consciousness is real then why do we need to go through the crappy ego consciousness? Can't we have unity consciousness without having to go through all the tedious ego stuff?

We need to be formed as unique individuals and that requires an evolution of 16 billion years or something like that. At the same time there is only the eternal now. And the entire past is in the now, created in zero seconds time! But the experience of time has to be created, so that's why it feels so tedious and burdensome.

The good thing is that evolution is an exponential process, meaning that the progress is accelerating. What took millions of years of development in the past takes only a year now, and then one years development takes only one day and so on. In fact, the progress now goes so fast that the Mayan end date October 28 may indeed be a point in time when unity consciousness will emerge, but it could happen before that or after that date. The key is at what time evolution reaches what is called a singularity where the progress accelerates towards infinity.

What if unity consciousness is bullshit and just some fantasy? Then it only means that we will remain trapped in the illusion of total separation. The truth is that everything is connected, or else it would not be part of the same whole reality. So I definitely think we WILL enter unity consciousness.

We better do that! Otherwise when the system falls. The freedom will tear us apart! Cus nobody knows what to do with it, once we got it.

That's a tricky part, because unity consciousness would be a higher level of consciousness, so we would be experiencing the freedom from a different perspective than from our ego consciousness. And it's probably true that from an ego consciousness we would be even more confused. Ego consciousness is already confused as it is.

I doubt that any spiritual teacher has reached unity consciousness, but they have definitely come close, such as Vernon Howard:

Think about the possibility of dropping all your personal problems. Isn't that exciting? I think it's an extremely exciting idea. And then when the mind drops all those nasty and burdensome problems your energy will skyrocket. Consider how healthy and good your body will feel when freed from the horrible ego parasite in your mind. Phew! What a relief!!!

How? How to drop personal problems? Just catch yourself thinking burdensome thoughts, and then remove your conscious attentions from those thoughts. Again and again and again, because it has to become a habit so that those old mental patterns atrophy and are replaced by a new understanding. What new understanding? The understanding that you don't need to dwell on personal problems. And in fact that dwelling on personal problems IS the real problem.

Then what about planning? Should we drop our plans for the future? Because every plan will bring potential problems? Yes. Yes! Drop it all! Why? Because, as Vernon Howard said, something like: YOU ARE DOING IT ALL WRONG!!! lol. We are doing it all wrong because we make our plans from ego consciousness. So, first drop all plans. Then enter unity consciousness, and THEN make your plans.
