![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGWWYkLmDv8 ![]() Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850-1916) was born on 24 June 1850 near Kerry in Ireland...He became Governor of the Egyptian Provinces of Eastern Sudan and Red Sea Littoral (which in practice consisted of little more than the Port of Suakin) in September 1886 and led his forces in action against the followers of the Mahdi at Handub in January 1888 when he was injured in the JAW.. He was promoted to brevet colonel on 11 April 1888 and to the substantive rank of major on 20 July 1889 and led the Egyptian Cavalry at the Battle of Toski in August 1889 before being appointed Adjutant-General of the Egyptian Army in December 1890..During the 2nd Boer War, Kitchener arrived in South Africa with Lord Roberts on the RMS Dunottar Castle along with massive British reinforcements in December 1899.. Officially holding the title of chief of staff,he was in practice a 2nd-in-command and was present at the relief of Kimberley before leading an unsuccessful frontal assault at the Battle of Paardeberg in February 1900.. Kitchener was mentioned in despatches from Lord Roberts several times during the early part of the war; in a despatch from March 1900 Lord Roberts wrote how he was "greatly indebted to him for his counsel and cordial support on all occasions"..Kitchener's involvement with the disastrous Dardanelles campaign led to a further tarnishing of his reputation among the cabinet..Sent on a mission to Russia in June 1916 to encourage continued Russian resistance to Germany, Kitchener's ship, H.M.S. Hampshire struck a Mine off the Orkneys and sank; Kitchener was drowned on 5 June 1916... Quote:

![]() ![]() Killer or killers is a Multi-Player folk variant of straight pool in which each player is assigned a set number of "lives" and takes one shot per inning to attempt to pocket (pot) a ball, or else lose a life..In each round of play,1 Player is secretly assigned the role of "murderer", perhaps by handing every Player a Playing card with a Particular card signifying that the recipient is the Murderer.. The murderer has the ability to "kill" other Players by making eye contact and Winking at them. If a player is winked at, they must count silently to 5 before feigning sudden death, and either lying on the floor where they dyed, or silently leaving the playing area.."Murder Handshake" is a variation where the players are expected to shake hands, and the murderer kills by using a special handshake, usually scratching the victim's palm... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPoyezWAghE Quote:

![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fAMDYlJgpU ![]() Could it be that Pontius Pilate was schooled in the Celtic Druid tradition so prevalent in Scotland at that time- Does this explain Pilate asking Jesus "What is truth..", possibly a Druidic password given by one initiate to another..Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895) was only 20 years old when she composed the beautiful words of the hymn There is a green hill, a work of exquisite purity and tenderness of youth. Her inspiration is said to have come from a large grass-covered mound just outside her home town of Londonderry which put her in mind of the hill in the Holy Land, beyond Jerusalem's gates, 'where our dear Lord was crucified'..During her lifetime, Mrs Alexander wrote over 400 hymns including Once in Royal David's City and All things bright and beautiful,2 hymns which have remained extremely popular with adults and children alike..Esus or Hesus was a Gaulish god known from 2 monumental statues and a line in Lucan's Bellum civile..In Neo-Druidism..The 18th century Druidic revivalist Iolo Morgannwg identified Esus with Jesus on the strength of the similarity of their names. He also linked them both with Hu Gadarn, writing..Both Hu and HUON were no doubt originally identical with the HEUS of Lactantius, and the HESUS of Lucan, described as gods of the Gauls. The similarity of the last name to IESU [Welsh: Jesus] is obvious and striking..A section in Lucan's Bellum civile talks about the gory sacrificial offerings proffered to a triad of Celtic deities: Teutates, Hesus , and Taranis. Among a pair of later commentators on Lucan's work, one identifies Teutates with Mercury and Esus with Mars.. According to the Berne Commentary on Lucan, human victims were sacrificed to Esus by being tied to a tree and flailed...The Green Hills YouTu... ![]() Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Cambridge 5 were a ring of spies, recruited in part by Soviet scout Arnold Deutsch in the United Kingdom, who passed information to the Soviet Union during World War II and at least into the early 1950s..Philby (cryptonym: Stanley) was an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from 1946 to 1965..In October 1955, Philby was officially cleared by Foreign Secretary Harold Macmillan, who told the House of Commons, "I have no reason to conclude that Mr. Philby has at any time betrayed the interests of his country, or to identify him with the so-called 'Third Man', if indeed there was one" ..From 1960, Philby's formerly marginal work as a journalist became more substantial and he frequently travelled throughout the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait and Yemen..On the evening of 23 January 1963, Philby vanished from Beirut, failing to meet his wife for a dinner party at the home of Glen Balfour-Paul, First Secretary at the British EmbassyThe Dolmatova, a Soviet freighter bound for Odessa, had left Beirut that morning so abruptly that cargo was left scattered over the docks.. Philby claimed that he left Beirut on board this ship.. However, others maintain that he escaped through Syria, overland to Soviet Armenia and thence to Russia..It was not until 1 July 1963 that Philby's flight to Moscow was officially confirmed.. On 30 July Soviet officials announced that they had granted him political asylum in the USSR, along with Soviet citizenship... ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Letter V comes from the Semitic letter Waw, as do the modern letters F, U, W, and Y..In Greek, the letter upsilon 'Υ' was adapted from waw to represent, at first, the vowel [u] as in "moon". This was later fronted to [y], the front rounded vowel spelled 'ü' in German..In the International Phonetic Alphabet, /v/ represents the voiced labiodental fricative..In English, V is unusual in that it has not traditionally been doubled to indicate a short vowel, the way for example P is doubled to indicate the difference between 'super' and 'supper'. However, that is changing with newly coined words, such as 'divvy up' and 'skivvies'..V is the only letter that cannot be used to form an English 2-letter word in the Australian version of the game of Scrabble.. C also cannot be used in the American version..In Japanese, V is often called "bui" (ブイ). This name is an approximation of the English name which substitutes the voiced bilabial plosive for the voiced labiodental fricative (which does not exist in native Japanese phonology) and differentiates it from "bī" (ビー), the Japanese name of the letter B..In Irish, the letter 〈v〉 is mostly used in loanwords, such as veidhlín from English VioLin... ![]() Quote:

Being very fond of sweets, he consumed a large number of sweets. While returning home his stomach burst open, due to the weight of the food consumed. Luckily it was night. Hoping no one had seen him; he quickly tied his stomach with a snake.. Unfortunately the moon saw him and burst into peals of laughter..Ganesha was furious and uttered a curse that the moon would be invisible from then on. The moon was ashamed of his action and begged forgiveness. Ganesha also felt he had been hasty in cursing the moon. But since he could not take back his curse but only lessen it's intensity, he proclaimed that the moon would Wax and Wane and would be invisible on only one day of the month...http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...postcount=1341 Last edited by lightgiver; 17-06-2014 at 11:25 AM. |
