I use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ownloadhelper/. You can set it so when you click on the icon it just downloads. If the icon is greyed out, click the triangle next to it and choose which one you want. It also converts while downloading, but this can make downloads take ages. It works pretty much everywhere as far as I can tell.

Edit: you will need Mozilla Firefox for this.

I found an easy way to do it. At the address bar of the video you want, in the url, after "www." and before "youtube" type in an "ss"; so it looks like http://www.ssyoutube.com/..... It takes you to a page where you can select .flv or .mP4, and file size, 720p, etc. There is an also an option to download the software, but I just use the "ss" tag and take it direct from the page.

I used to use "Freecorder" but find that it sucks now.

There are more sites like keepvid to download YouTube videos on PCs: http://www.videoconverterfactory.com...e-keepvid.html
Also, you can take some extensions to save videos, like Video DownloadHelper: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ownloadhelper/
