Just as the story was running out of steam, the scriptwriters have come up with another plot line, our Pauline facing disciplinary action for failure to disclose her "high temperature" on flying. Tut tut. The story has been simmering gently since May

My mistake, wrong link

The earlier report from May 2016 where the story was first aired is here
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...bola-volunteer
".....and two other nurses..."

which is rather strange because only one week before, she was on ITV spouting her story...
https://www.theguardian.com/world/vi...le-death-video

interviewed by uber sympathetic Julie Etchingham who was also entrusted with a Bataclan "survivor" Denis Plaud in the following video

The publicly funded legal circus continues

The disciplinary panel was told Ms Cafferkey's conduct had "undermined" public trust and confidence in the nursing profession.

Ms Cafferkey sat next to her lawyer, Joyce Cullen, throughout the day-long hearing.

Anu Thompson, representing the Nursing and Midwifery Council, said: "The fact that she was suffering from the early onset of the virus cannot absolve her of all responsibility for her conduct, nor can it remove her understanding or knowledge of the disease."

The hearing will continue on Wednesday

The West African Ebola virus epidemic of 2013 to 2016 was the most widespread epidemic of Ebola virus disease in history. The disease caused significant loss of life and social disruption, mainly in three West African countries.
An original outbreak of Ebola virus disease that begun in West Africa in December 2013, mainly affecting Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has now ended but the risk of sporadic cases (flare-ups) remain. On 8 August 2014, WHO had declared the Ebola epidemic in West Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
The WHO declared the end of Ebola transmission in Guinea on 29 December 2015, in Liberia on 14 January 2016, and in Sierra Leone on 17 March 2016.

WHO continues to stress that the countries are still at risk of sporadic transmission of Ebola, largely due to virus persistence in some survivors, and must remain on high alert and ready to respond. Strong surveillance and emergency response capacity need to be maintained, while care, screening and counselling also need to be provided for survivors.

According to WHO on 18 March 2016, a flare-up of Ebola cases was reported in a rural village in the prefecture of Nzérékoré, Guinea.

My guess is that it's scare tactics to make people believe that the Ebolie virus never goes away...that it can 'flare up' anytime - and in our Pauline's case - four times...so far!

So...better roll-up for the vaccine - once one becomes available - which no doubt will be available immediately following some new 'outbreak'.

Anything to prolong this ebola nonsense - now we have a new twist from the scriptwriters -
https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news...re-after-trip/

Quote:
[Nurse] Donna Wood returned to the UK with Fife nurse Pauline Cafferkey, who survived the outbreak, and the pair’s group passed through passport control at Heathrow airport before being pulled aside for screening.

Wood appeared before an independent panel at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in Stratford, east London, facing three misconduct charges, including recording Ms Cafferkey’s temperature reading dishonestly in order to hide it from public health officials.

The panel found she was aware that Ms Cafferkey’s temperature was above the nationally-set threshold, but suggested that a lower temperature of 37.2C (99F) be recorded on her screening form so that the group could leave the “uncomfortable” and “chaotic” area more quickly.
Doctor Hannah Ryan had taken Ms Cafferkey’s temperature twice, with readings of 38.2C and 38.3C (101F).

A temperature above 37.5C (100F) required further assessment by doctors at the Public Health England (PHE) screening room.

However, Wood then failed to appropriately escalate the 38C+ reading, which took place on December 28 2014, the panel ruled.
But Wood had an "unblemished record" we learn..
drinks all round once again
Quote:
Ben Rich...said her actions amounted to a brief “lapse of judgment” by a professional who had given almost 30 years of “distinguished” service to the NHS.

The panel is expected to to conclude its deliberations on Friday.
After which the legal profession will have to find some other state funded work.

Ebola nurse suspended for concealing high temperature.

Quote:
A senior nurse found to have concealed the true temperature of Ebola survivor Pauline Cafferkey has been suspended for two months.

A disciplinary panel said Donna Wood's dishonesty was "very serious, but not premeditated".

Pauline Cafferkey: Living With Ebola

St Andrews University, in support of..... MSF

So, what happened?
Reporting is thin

Quote:
She chooses not to appear on public platforms, she doesn’t give interviews, and she longs to return to her previously 'normal life'. But Pauline Cafferkey, the Scottish nurse who survived being infected with the Ebola virus, made an exception to her rule when she spoke at St Andrews University in a fund-raising event for Medecins Sans Frontieres, an organisation she supports.
Role over then.

. ‘I have had some survivor’s guilt', she confessed...
Indeed.

Perhaps Living with a Lie would be a better title?
