The Simpsons used to be the best show on TV. What happened?

The good writers left + any show can only be good for a certain amount of years

Only watched first couple of minutes so apologies if this is in clip.

30 years is a long time to keep something fresh also it's audience is
getting older for example someone who was 18 at its beginning is now
48 and coupled with the fact that kids don't watch TV as much as they
did back in the day perhaps the script writers are catering for 48 y.o.
and not teenagers now?

The writers are catering to teenagers, that's part of the problem. Instead of obscure references from the 70's and 80's like the earlier episodes had, now they're just referencing stupid shit like facebook and mobile phones.

OK. So maybe we have found the issue. It's unlikely today's teenager will like the
same TV programme that their parents will watch but the script writers are catering for the teenager?

Er.......well the Simpson's show predicted stuff before it happened. Did it predict it's own ratings demise?
