MPs have today called for a minister for hunger to tackle the high levels of food insecurity in the UK. The combination of high living costs, stagnating wages and often, the rollout of universal credit and the wider benefits system, means that levels of hunger in Britain are some of the highest across Europe. MPs also said the government is turning a blind eye to UK hunger, its lack of progress in measuring and acting on hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in the UK. Note The government largely sees hunger as an overseas issue until now.

then instead if 65 million brits to feed you might find that you have millions more every few years pouring into the country

well if you borrow to pay for it then you end up oweing more interest to your creditor which means that you will have even less money next year that you can use to help the public because all the taxpayers money will be going to service the interest on the loans

what we need is employment so that people can feed themselves but instead of employment the progressives want automation and mass immigration; how does that compute?

THOUSANDS of unused Army ration packs will be donated to charity to help people in need. They will go to an organisation which distributes to homeless hostels, community groups and lunch groups for the elderly. Minister for Defence People and Veterans Tobias Ellwood said: “Ration packs help provide nutritionally balanced meals to our armed forces on operations around the world. “But charity begins at home, and I’m pleased our partnership with FareShare will make sure no food goes to waste. FareShare does a fantastic job redistributing food across the country and I’m proud the military can support communities in this way.”

A cross-party group of MPs has called on the government to appoint a Minister for Hunger to deal with "food insecurity" especially among children. Children are arriving at school's so hungry they are searching the bins for food, One schools head teacher has said, When children are food deprived it alters their behaviour and they do become quite food obsessed, so we have some children who will be stealing fruit cores from the bins.

We should focus on helping our own people than those in Africa, Middle East and elsewhere.

If our people are starving (and some are) then the government should be ashamed of itself as it has a duty to look after it's people.

A minister of hunger is a total kick in the balls to the everyone in this country. We are in the 21st century and no one in this country or on this planet should be going hungry.

All the money we waste on weapons, space exploration and other utter shit should be spent on more important things, basic things even.

Free school meals are available to children from the lowest income families. They are worth on average about £10 every week. A two course school meal costs £1.75 for a primary pupil and £2.05 for a secondary pupil. The average school meal costs parents £437 per child per year. many children on low incomes are not eligible for free school meals – approximately 4 in 10 children living in poverty. Cafeteria lunch may go for over $1,000 annually. As the old saying there's no such thing as a free lunch. If your child is entitled, you still register for Free School Meals under the current scheme. This will mean that the school will benefit from over £1000 additional funding each year for your child from central Government (Pupil Premium) and also that they will receive free meals when they are in years 3 – 6... well now who knew the school gets over £1000 a year once you register your child for £10 a week...Disgusting! Parents are encouraged to lie and register their children, even if: they do not want to eat school meals, they already receive universal infant free school meals. Child poverty: Malnourished pupils with grey skin are "filling their pockets" with food from school canteens in poor areas due to poverty, head teachers say. Hunger was particularly apparent after the weekend. A spokesman also highlighted the £2.5bn it invests in disadvantaged pupils through the Pupil Premium and a recent £26m investment in breakfast clubs.

Community Pantry has 34 members with 81 children between them, who pay £3 a week for a basket of donated food - containing ten items. One woman who visited was so desperate she was eating dog biscuits while another was relying on instant mashed potatoes to feed her children.The supermarket helps those struggling financially to put food on their tables and is serving so many people that it has had to open an extra day.
