One obvious trait that I see most morning is, as the sun rises there are nearly always trails in the east but none in the west no matter which way they are moving.
And as the sun is setting they lay them down in the west but there are none in the east.

They are obviously blocking out the sun, just imagine how much profit they will make if they can get everyone to turn on their heating a week earlier than they would at this time of year.

Exactly what I see, also have you noticed the blanket that blocks out the sun? No clouds whatsoever just a gray blanket that goes from horizon to horizon.

Glad to hear someone else is paying attention, good for you apprentice.

Yes I see the haze you mention, it also has a rainbow effect which is not a sun dog, we have taken hundreds of photos over the last twenty years and the patterns have slowly increased.
At the moment I am setting up a tracking scope, mirror type to try and get the plane logos if they have them.
It is clear enough for my eyes to see what they are seeing, clouds do not form in straight lines and then spread out sideways especially in the opposite direction to the wind direction, even my grand daughter could point that out.
However, when you see several plane at the same ceiling travelling along the North South corridor, some laying and some vanishing, its a no brained really.

What clues are there that it's not just normal rain?

You could ask the uk.sci.weather group about this. They are mostly amateur meteorologists and like something to debate..

I would rather ask an honest chemist.

Edit:

Or simply watch the most sensitive organisms like lichens and moss, because it will be nature that would be effected if anything is untowardly.

Yes, very good idea.

Lichens and some mosses are affected by pollution - particularly industrial (acid rain) pollution. Not sure how they are affected by other contaminants.

I have been watching for many years now and not much has happened yet, these are the most common of all species and flourish sometimes on varying pollutants as well, so its a double edged sword we can use to spot bother paradigms if they unleash.

The tech is now available to be able to take samples of rain, via drone technology, like the idiot who flew his home made unit into the main flight corridor nearly hitting a 747.

If we ere allowed to take detailed samples, I very much doubt if we would get real answers back.
