My feeling is, if you going to eat meat, you should go out and kill the animal yourself.

The meat industry and intense farming of animals is horrific. Full stop.

But it's ok to go and buy your veg from supermarkets?

We don't need as much protein as most people seem to think. See my post above about the amino acid composition of plants.

Here's Patrik Baboumian. Vegan. Does he look as if he doesn't get enough protein? Two years after becoming vegan (after many years as a veggie) he broke the world record for carrying weight on his shoulders. More than half a ton! He broke his own record a couple of years after that.

Only bacteria and similar organisms make B12. It is our stomachs that produce the intrinsic factor. This binds with B12 in the intestines so it can be absorbed. We produce only small amounts of intrinsic factor, which means only small amounts of B12 from any meal can be absorbed. From memory, it is about 2 micrograms of B12. This could fit on the pointy end of a pin. When I take a tablet containing B12 I break it and have a bit with each meal. That ensures I get about 2 microwotsits of B12 at each meal. We need 3-5 of those micros a day. It is recommended that people over the age of 50 get their B12 from supplements or fortified food as the stomach produces less intrinsic factor after that age. That is why many meat eaters are deficient in B12. Including those much younger than 50.

Default Because it's tasty!

This shows that clearly, vegans crave meat!
Why the need to make Vegan Steak otherwise?

so does your vegan diet require you to eat lots of tablets?

Some people like the taste and texture and sight of cooked meat. It might placate the deeply-seated brainwashed part of some people that remembers how mummy and daddy used to say they needed it. Why do some people drink non-alcohol wines and beers?

You would only need to take a B12 tablet or eat food fortified with it. But, if your diet does not contain a good selection of wholefoods, it would be wise to add a multivitamin and mineral tablet. All modern food is less nutritious than it was 50 years ago. And food of 50 years ago was not as nutritious as food of 100 years ago. This is due to farming practices and the selection of varieties of crops. Very often crops are chosen for their size or appearance, resistance to disease or better storage capacity. Not for nutrient content. Everyone in industrialised countries has vitamin and often mineral supplements whether they realise it not. Some foods are fortified with vitamin B9 and/or vitamin D, by law, to prevent spina bifida (vit B9) and stillbirths and rickets (vit D). In the USA, salt used to be fortified with iodine because many people developed goitre from a lack of it. I don't know if it is still fortified. Iron, calcium and other things have been added to food, mainly flours, but I think that's because the processing into white flour removed them.

For tea tonight before going off to nightshift ;

Starter : tomato soup with wholemeal bread.

Main: Big plate of fresh potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and a few sprouts.

I'll have a banana when I get to work and on my tea break I'll have another banana, some nuts and a mug of green tea.

Not a chick pea or fake steak in sight. I don't know how I'll manage to drag my withered, emaciated skeletal body all the way home from work in the morning, maybe I'll collapse and have to be force fed a Big Mac so I can get home.

Menial, easy, labour work. On my feet all night.
I go hiking and wild camping a lot on my days off. I never really have any problems with energy once I have managed to get out of my sleeping bag.

To help with energy levels I take maca powder and do a qi gong and tai chi routine every work day.

I think the rise of veganism has done the damage.
