3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards..

The Grenadier Guards is an infantry regiment of the British Army.. It is the most senior regiment of the Guards Division and, as such, is the most senior regiment of infantry. It is not, however, the most senior regiment of the Army, this position being attributed to The Life Guards.. Although The Coldstream Guards were formed before The Grenadier Guards, the regiment is ranked after the Grenadiers in seniority as, having been a regiment of the New Model Army, the Coldstream served the Crown for 4 fewer years than the Grenadiers (the Grenadiers having formed as a Royalist regiment in exile in 1656 and the Coldstream having sworn allegiance to the Crown upon the Restoration in 1660)...

The Guards Parachute Platoon maintains the tradition established by the No 1 (Guards) Independent Parachute Company that was part of the original Pathfinder Group of 16th Parachute Brigade, which has since been designated as the 16th Air Assault Brigade..Recruits to the Guards Division go through a thirty-week gruelling training programme at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC).. The following year the Welsh Guards were dispatched to the province again and during this period lost Guardsman David Roberts in a landmine explosion..In October 1975 till March 1976 the Welsh Guards were part of the British contingent of the UN force deployed to Cyprus in the aftermath of the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974..In 77 the regiment arrived in West Berlin again, and then in 1979 once more in the midst of the volatile situation in Northern Ireland, they lost Guardsman Paul Fryer to a booby trap bomb.. On 9 July 1981, Daniel Barrett, aged 15 years, was sitting on the garden wall of his home in Havana Court, Ardoyne, North Belfast, when he was shot dead by a soldier..Many people have mistakenly said this was a Welsh Guardsman however no Welsh Guardsman was serving in Ulster at that time..

The South Wales Borderers was a line infantry regiment of the British Army in existence for 280 years..It first came into existence, as the 24th Regiment of Foot, in 1689, but was not called the South Wales Borderers the Childers Reforms of 1881..As its name suggests, the regiment recruited primarily from South Wales...

And so they used a lot of Scots there as well as cannon fodder..They had a mass of Hessian troops, for sure, but they also employed mercenaries from all over Europe..

I know that in World War One, when they would run out of so many of the young, because they were throwing in whole battalions every day across the field, who were getting mowed down in 15 minutes with machine-gun fire, and they weren’t allowed to lie down or crawl or anything, they had to walk into this hail of machine-gun fire. They’d lost so many of the young and eventually it was a sort of stalemate, where nothing much was happening in the trenches, because it was the older guys that were generally left, and the older guys didn’t want to fight on either side..So once in a day they’d fire into the air and they’d all do their thing and they were all quite happy; so it was mandated in Canada and Australia to recruit the young very quickly and to get them really fired up to kill, and then they sent them over to the trenches to get the killing going again...

George Boleyn and the other accused men were executed on 17 May 1536..The ermine mantle was removed and Anne lifted off her headdress, tucking her hair under a coif..After a brief farewell to her weeping ladies and a request for prayers, she kneeled down and one of her ladies tied a blindfold over her eyes..She knelt upright, in the French style of executions.. Her final prayer consisted of her repeating continually, "Jesu receive my soul; O Lord God have pity on my soul"..The execution consisted of a single stroke..She was then buried in an unmarked grave in the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula.. Her skeleton was identified during renovations of the chapel in 1876, in the reign of Queen Victoria, and Anne's resting place is now marked in the marble floor..It is for this reason that I think the ghost of Anne Boleyn has been seen and sensed in several locations around the UK...

Operation Ladbroke was a glider landing by British airborne troops during the Second World War near Syracuse, Sicily, that began on 9 July 1943 as part of Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily.. The first Allied mission using large numbers of the aircraft, the operation was carried out from Tunisia by glider infantry of the British 1st Airlanding Brigade, commanded by Brigadier Philip Hicks, with a force of 136 Waco Hadrians and 8 Airspeed Horsas.. A second Royal Air Force transport group, No. 46, was formed and equipped solely with Douglas Dakotas, instead of the mixture of aircraft in No. 38 Group..Together, the Royal Air Force groups were capable of supplying 88 Albermarles, 88 Stirlings, 36 Halifaxes and 150 Dakotas, a total of 362 planes which did not include aircraft held as reserves..
