Default fat cat

Hey guys

I recently took on the task of taking care of a friends cat.

She really does like her food and if her Bowl is empty she will soon let me know. At first she wanted it full with a top on all the time or she would complain but I got her used to eating it all up before i give her more.

The problem I have is that she is getting really fat. I found out she is sterillized so is that a reason why she is eating so much?

Any tips to how to make her loose some weight? I bought some food esp for sterillized cats. Is that any help?

Is cat pregnant or taking regular exercises? What are you feeding her?
Maybe you can take her to the vets just to check her health.

She complains by just meowing at me untill i give her food.

I am not sure how much she eats. Its normal brekkies i give her.

Well now i bought this food especially for cats that have been sterilized so I hope that will help.

In the summer she is outside almost all the time. But I Dont know how much exersice she gets

Our is the same: obsessed with food. The only way to limit him putting on weight, is to limit his food.

He'd eat all day long if we kept feeding him. Exercise it tricky too, since he spends 90% of his life meditating.

Cats love being in control, so try lowering her food intake, but spread it out over a few smaller servings if possible.

Cats can be traumatised like people. I suggest giving her normal amounts of food only, and stick to giving them at specific times. Leave the bowl out until it's empty.

When the cat pesters you for food, give her hugs and love instead, play with her, with bits of string and so on. But don't reward her with food.

Food is just a substitute for lack of love and attention.

Paddy knows well.

OP, meowing is simple cats thing to do and not necessarily begging for food. Of course they'll eat everything if you keep on giving up more.

What is the food you're giving her?
Some cats don't go out anymore, they enjoy the indoors.
Do you have a photo of cat?

I never had a cat before so at first I just saw the meowing as her wanting to play or for me to pet her.
But I started to see a pattern in it. Times when her bowl is empty she would be more insisting. She would even wake me up in the middle of the night for me to fill her bowl.

I think the owners just always had her bowl topped up and this is why she still insist on it. I got her used to eating all her food before i top it up and she stopped waking me up

Well thanks for the ideas everyone. I will try them out
