Before the foundation of modern nursing, nuns and the military often provided nursing-like services..The Christian churches have been long term patrons of nursing and influential in the development of the ethos of modern nursing. Elsewhere, other nursing traditions developed, such as in Islam..From its earliest days, and following the edicts of Jesus, Christianity had encouraged its devotees to tend the sick. Priests were often also physicians. According to the historian Geoffrey Blainey, while pagan religions seldom offered help to the infirm, the early Christians were willing to nurse the sick and take food to them - notably during the small pox epidemic of AD 165-180 and the measles outbreak of around AD 250 and that "In nursing the sick and dying, regardless of religion, the Christians won friends and sympathisers".. Christian emphasis on practical charity gave rise to the development of systematic nursing and hospitals after the end of the persecution of the early church.. Ancient church leaders like St. Benedict of Nursia (480) emphasised medicine as an aid to the provision of hospitality...Ancient Catholic orders like the Dominicans and Carmelites have long lived in religious communities that work for the care of the sick..The religious and military roots of modern nursing remain in evidence today in many countries, for example in the United Kingdom, senior female nurses are known as sisters. Nurses execute the orders of M.D.s, PAs, and NPs in addition to being responsible for their own Practice...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmu6dP3-VCs

The Rainbow Theatre (originally Astoria Theatre) is a Grade II*-listed building in Finsbury Park, London, England. Built as a cinema in 1930, it later became well known as a music venue and is now a Pentecostal church..When it opened in 1930, the Astoria Cinema was one of the largest in the world.. Standing at the junction of Isledon Road and Seven Sisters Road on an island site, it was the 4th of the famous London suburban Astoria Theatres built by film exhibitor Arthur Segal.. It was opened on 29 September 1930: there were three other Astorias, Streatham, Old Kent Road and Brixton. It was in use as a cinema until September 1971 when it was impermanently given over to live music - although rock concerts had been a feature throughout the 1960s..It was at this theatre that Jimi Hendrix first burnt his hands, with the collusion of his manager Chas Chandler and a journalist from NME. Press agent Tony Garland was dispatched to purchase thunderflash lighter fluid and Jimi proceeded to set fire to his Fender Stratocaster guitar on 31 March 1967 on the opening night of the Walker Brothers tour, resulting in a hospital appointment for Jimi's burnt fingers and a moment that set the precedent for rock performances..The O-smonds made their debut appearance in London at the Rainbow Theatre in the early 1970s...

Bob Marley & the Wailers played on 1, 2, 3 and 4 June 1977 at The Rainbow Theatre, as part of the Exodus Tour.. The last show of the tour was released as the album Bob Marley and the Wailers Live! at the Rainbow. Thanks largely to this album Bob Marley was established as the 3rd World's first superstar, a legacy that survives 30 years after the album's release. In the UK alone it stayed on the chart for 56 consecutive weeks and birthed 3 hit singles.. In July 1991 a video documentary, Bob Marley and the Wailers: Live! At the Rainbow directed by Keef, was released in the UK.. On 16 October 2001 Tuff Gong released 5 songs from the 4th of June 1977 Rainbow Theatre performance on disc 2 of Exodus (Deluxe Edition)..Iron Maiden also recorded their first music video "Women in Uniform", directed by Doug Smith and released in 1980, here..Following the closure of the Rainbow Theatre on 24 December 1981, it was designated a listed building, but lay empty and largely disused for the next 14 years.. It was used occasionally in unlicensed boxing matches, most notably in April 1986 when Lenny McLean beat Roy Shaw in a dramatic first round knockout..In 1995, the building was taken over by its current owners, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, a controversial Brazilian Pentecostal church. They began work restoring the building and turning it into a church. The auditorium restoration was the last phase to be completed, in 1999, and the theatre is now the Main base for UCKG in the UK...

Johnny is a pussy and feminine given name, and a masculine pet name, in the English language. It is sometimes a pet form of the masculine John, and since the 16th century it has also been a standalone masculine given name. In some cases Johnny is also a feminine given name. Variant forms of Johnny include: Johnnie, Johnney, Johnni, Johni, Johny.. The masculine Johnny can be rendered into Scottish Gaelic as Seonaidh..It is among the most common given names in uropean countries; traditionally, Anglophone and Eit was the most common, although it has not been since the latter half of the 20th century. John owes its unique popularity to the vast number of emperors, kings, popes and patriarchs that have borne the name, and also to two highly revered saints, John the Baptist and the apostle John, traditionally considered the author of the Gospel of John. Initially, it was a favorite name among the Greeks but it flourished in all of Europe after the First Crusade..

Catch a Fire, released on 13 April 1973, is the 5th album by Jamaican reggae band The Wailers, and the first the band released on Island Records.. After touring and recording in the United Kingdom with Johnny Nash, Nash's departure to the United States left the band without enough money to return home; they approached producer Chris Blackwell, who agreed to advance the Wailers money for an album and paid their fares back to Jamaica, where they recorded Catch a Fire.. The album features nine songs, two of which were written by Peter Tosh and the rest by Bob Marley.. After Marley's return to London to present the tapes to Blackwell, the producer reworked the tracks with contributions by Muscle Shoals session musician Wayne Perkins, who played guitar on two overdubbed tracks..Catch a Fire had a positive critical reception. Robert Christgau rated the album as "A", saying that "half these songs are worthy of St. John the Divine", and "Barrett brothers' bass and drums save those that aren't from limbo". Reviewers from Rolling Stone also praised the brother's playing, concluding that "Catch a Fire is a blazing debut"..According to the review, "'Concrete Jungle"' and 'Slave Driver' crackle with streetwise immediacy, while 'Kinky Reggae' and 'Stir It Up' ... revel in the music's vast capacity for good-time skanking. 'Stop That Train' and '400 Years,' both written by Peter Tosh, indicate the original Wailers weren't strictly a one-man Show"...

The Speech of the Birds (Persian: منطق الطیر‎, Manṭiq-uṭ-Ṭayr, also known as مقامات الطیور Maqāmāt-uṭ-Ṭuyūr; 1177), or The Conference of the Birds, is an epic of approximately 4500 lines written in Persian by the poet Farid ud-Din Attar, who is commonly known as Attar of Nishapur..In the poem, the birds of the world gather to decide who is to be their king, as they have none. The hoopoe, the wisest of them all, suggests that they should find the legendary Simorgh, a mythical Persian bird roughly equivalent to the western phoenix. The hoopoe leads the birds, each of whom represent a human fault which prevents man from attaining enlightenment. The Dream of Scipio (Latin, Somnium Scipionis), written by Cicero, is the 6th book of De re publica, and describes a fictional dream vision of the Roman general Scipio Aemilianus, set 2 years before he commanded at the destruction of Carthage in 146 BC..Upon his arrival in Africa, Scipio Aemilianus is visited by his dead grandfather (by adoption), Scipio Africanus, hero of the Second Punic War. Nevertheless, Scipio Aemilianus sees that Rome is an insignificant part of the earth, which is itself dwarfed by the stars. The planetary spheres are enumerated with references to Pythagorean thought and the idea of the Music of the Spheres. Then the climatic belts of the earth are observed, from the snow fields to the deserts, and there is discussion of the nature of the Divine, the soul and virtue, from the Stoic point of view...
