It will only cost some small portion of society their humanity. There are fallen angel ways to transhumanism and holistic ways. Chakra/Energetic body tech is amazing stuff for example.

How someone actually loses their humanity is by replacing their soul and genetic influence on consciousness with AI. Doing it a little for entertainment purposes for maybe virtual reality is one thing, however doing it all the time is what this person means; losing their humanity.

Electronic telepathy itself is kind of like a phone, except mind to mind, AI is involved(filters etc), and the communication methods are truly cosmic and flawless. Instead of crappy vocal and words you can use concepts and energetics. This is not dystopian at all. It is all how you use it.

If it was all for dystopian bullshit you could sort of say the universe's design is flawed. I do not subscribe to that perspective at all personally. Future technology is a huge double edged blade. Don't believe the hype.
