Second 'ghost' sighting at Tantallon Castle

Quote:
A second photograph of a "ghost" at Tantallon Castle has surfaced, taken more than three decades before another that recently emerged.

Last week a picture taken at the ruined Scottish castle on the East Lothian coast was voted the world's most convincing ghost snap.

It appeared to show a figure clad in Tudor dress and a ruff peering out of a crumbling window.

The photographer who took the picture last May claimed he saw no one there, and tests have ruled out digital tampering.

Experts suggested the image might have been a trick of the light, but confirmed sceptic Professor Richard Wiseman admitted he was puzzled.

The second photo was taken by Grace Lamb, from Edinburgh, at the same location 32 years ago.

It shows her late husband Hugh and two children Paul and Kelly – and behind them, what looks like a female figure staring out of an opening above the window in the original ghost photo.

As before, Mrs Lamb does not recall seeing the face when she pressed the camera button.

The figure was only noticed when the photograph was developed and has been a topic of heated debate by the family ever since.

The family sent the photo to Prof Wiseman after seeing news coverage of the original Tantallon "ghost".

Prof Wiseman, from Hertfordshire University, headed a panel of experts looking at ghost pictures from around the world as part of a project for Edinburgh International Science Festival.

He said: "I am sceptical about ghosts, but this is a great find. There has been a huge number of people visiting the project website and I have received hundreds of images, but this is one of the most curious."

Alex Pryce, of the Edinburgh Skeptics group, was unconvinced. He said: "When the picture is enlarged, it is quite obvious it is a woman with a carrier bag in her hand and her handbag over her shoulder. It is a woman in a pink jacket coming down some stairs with a shopping bag."

Ah, so Tantallon has quite a history? Fascinating. I did not know there were previous ghostly photos taken.

CCTV captures a Ghost ?
Quote:

A BRITISH council has called in local ghostbuster experts to review CCTV footage which appears to show a ghost on the grounds of a hall.

Liverpool City Council in the UK has called in experts to study the footage which appears to show a ghost in the grounds of Croxteth Hall.

Councillor Berni Turner, Liverpool city council's executive member for the environment, said she was keeping an open mind about the investigation.

"I'm a huge believer in the paranormal and think this footage is really interesting," she added. "It's great to think that we may have ghosts walking around these beautiful grounds."

City bosses have suggested that the site could be haunted by the 7th Earl of Sefton, Hugh William Osbert Molyneux, who lived at the hall until his death in 1972.

Another theory is that the ghost could be the 2nd Earl of Sefton, William Philip Molyneux, who laid the foundation stone for Aintree Racecourse and is believed locally to revisit the hall every year at the time of the Grand National.

Re: Post #63

Definitely appears to be a walking human. I would be interested to learn what more the ghostbusters have to say.

Nice one coco! I don't know if there is a hiding spot behind the car (is there a pillar she's going behind?) or not but anyway she looked transparent. Freaky. Thanks for sharing

That seems to be one of the points of debate on the Youtube blog. Very interesting though, can't deny that!

Odd, the appartition appears to be either walking backwards or has hair in front of the face. But as easily as it progresses forward it couldn't possibly be walking backwards.

A photograph, which has captured a dark figure taken in the foreboding underground Crypt at Oxford Castle Unlocked, has revealed the paranormal does exist and confirms beliefs that the Castle is haunted. The photograph was taken on Friday 16 May by a member of the public at a ghost hunt organised by Fright Nights, the UK’s leading ghost hunt specialist.
The brave ghost hunter, who was alone in the Crypt at the time, took the photograph with his digital camera. Keiron Brown from Alton in Hampshire was astonished to see the dark shadow of a figure at the end of the corridor leading into the Crypt when he looked at the images on his computer after the event.
The astounding photograph has since been analysed by experts at Fright Nights and at Oxford Castle Unlocked. Martin Jeffrey, Director of Fright Nights stated. We were amazed by this photograph. Our analysts have shown that the figure is jet black and unusually not lit up by the flash, whereas the side walls and the wall behind it have visible lighting caused by the flash.
We can also confirm that the figure is facing the camera and seems to have some form of hood, head dress or blindfold. We know that the Crypt was used for the storing of criminals especially those waiting execution, so the figure fits perfectly within the history of the Castle. Fright Nights were granted exclusive use of Oxford Castle Unlocked in which to hold overnight paranormal investigations for the public since early 2007. The visitor attraction is thought to be one of the most haunted buildings in the country.
Throughout its dark history, the Castle has served time as a royal residence, a centre of justice and as the county Gaol, hidden from public view behind impenetrable 5 metre high stones walls until its closure in 1996. Martin continued, “This photograph tops off a fantastic eighteen months of ghost hunting events at Oxford Castle Unlocked. We have had continual paranormal activity throughout the Castle that has inspired attendees to return over and over again.
I went there yesterday. The crypt in very old, dark, damp and spooky. Thought I saw something for a moment, but may have imagined it.

The tour guide told us that many photoes show orbs and spectral figures and that there are organized overnight ghost-hunts there. I'll have to join one!

I have been to the Winchester house, I didn't get any creepy vibes, the only vibes I gathered was that lady was insane.

The ghostly images that have left New Zealand spooked !

Quote:
Is that a ghostly face in the flames of a burning house? Or is it just trick of the light?

You'd think it was just a mirage - except it appears twice, in two different photos.

The spooky images have appeared in a New Zealand competition showcasing ghostly pictures from around the country.

Do you believe?: One of two photos taken during a Westport Volunteer Fire Brigade exercise in 2006. They appear to show ghostly heads in the burning house.

The second Westport photograph appears to show the head moving through the house... floating above the heads of firefighters outside

The competition follows on from a similar British competition - with some startling results.

Most of the photographs were just 'orbs' - ie, dust on a camera lens - or smoke, or odd reflections, website Stuff.co.nz reported.

But some prompted a double take - like the above photos taken during a Westport Volunteer Fire Brigade exercise in 2006.

Both images appear to show a spectral head floating in the window of a burning house. While one could perhaps be explained away as a trick of the flames, the fact that the image was caught twice is harder to ignore.

Two students pose for the camera at Linwood College in Christchurch - but whose is that apparently disembodied head that appears to be floating between them?

Another photograph that caught judges' eyes was taken at Linwood College in Christchurch. It shows two students flashing the victory sign and wearing sunglasses - and what appears to be a third, disembodied head squashing in between them.

New Zealand Paranormal Investigation Society director Brad Scott told Stuff.co.nz that most paranormal pictures were easily explained.

'There are 90 per cent logical explanations for everything that occurs, but it's that 10 per cent that we look for,' he said.

But it is a human tendency to search for faces in random patterns, a critic claimed.

Vicki Hyde, of the New Zealand Skeptics Society, said the photos could be easily explained.

'Shots involving fire, smoke and fog are notorious for producing ghost images,' she said.

'These indistinct environments produce the kind of patterns we try to resolve as meaningful, and the most meaningful pattern we know is the human form.

'Put two blobs above another one and we will automatically try to resolve it into a face.'

And Mr Scott warned: 'If someone is saying a photo is paranormal it has to be taken with a grain of salt.'

The proof was in one final image that caught the judges' eyes during the New Zealand contest.

The shot was taken by a woman of her ten-month-old grandson in 1996.

But her family was terrified after noticing a man's head with a wicked glare in the eyes in a basket in the background.

But their fears were allayed when, on closer inspection, they realised the head was just Jack Nicholson.

A photograph of the actor in his hit movie The Shining was on the cover of a magazine rolled up inside the basket.

The winning image of the British version of the competition showed a ghostly figure in Tudor dress staring out of a Scottish castle. It was taken in May of last year.

Floating heads are certainly freakish !!

Re: Photo #3 in above post -

As difficult as it is, I have been studying it searching for a tangible explanation but I am neither a photographic expert or a scientist or engineer. Nonetheless, it continues to intrigue me. I must take a break looking at it - it's giving me the willies.

Phantom Cat - St.Louis, Missouri, -USA

Quote:

In December of 2005, I was taking pictures of the Christmas lights at the Anheuser Busch brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. I was using a Hasselblad 501 C. The picture was printed over three years ago without noticing the feline onlooker. Recently, I have been converting all of my negatives to a digital format using a negative scanner. Upon closer inspection of these photos, I discovered the phantom cat in this one (front, center). The cat can be seen in the negative as well. [The image seen here is cropped from a larger photo.]

Re: Post 72

The photographer mentioned he is converting his photos to a digital format which lead to me to think he used a regular film camera. Here is the camera he claims to have used:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography...hassel_501.htm

It is a film camera. Perhaps this is a case of the film failing to advance properly resulting in some sort of double exposure? But if it is a double exposure I would think there would be more evidence of other images.

I do not doubt the existence of ghosts by the way. I don't doubt their existence at all. And I don't think every photo is false nor am I saying I think this photo is false.

Great thread as usual, Chatt!

hi all ... good thread here .... and I thought I'd share my encounter with the supernatural ...was at a place called chingle hall on an overnighter with a few friends, when me and another person decided to do a camera blitz outside.

I have to stress that it was a clear night although damp, fresh but not cold enough to condense breath, neither of us had a cigarette lit or otherwise, nothing was seen prior to the photo being taken or after, it was a pitch black area no street lamps at all. The second photo is a control photo of someone blowing cig smoke straight at the camera lens when we took it, to rest the minds of the other peeps there, this was taken after the first shot obviously. The third photo is the best orb shot we got whilst inside the actual hall.

Photo of 'ghost'

Control Photo with cig smoke

some wierd foto's on that site ... those 'light beam' shots are unbelievable ... gotta add that my cam was digital not a 35mm as some of the foto's on that website...so that messes up the theory that 'orb' or other anomalies are not just down to digital technology.
Btw that is a nice orb shot ... colourful too

Hospital Ghost ?

Quote:

This photo was taken at the old military hospital in St. Augustine, FL in June of '08 (St. Augustine is the oldest city in the U.S.) Many people suffered amputations without anesthesia in unsanitary conditions. A young girl was the hospital "surgeon" when they were overcrowded with Spanish soldiers and removed countless limbs from patients.

I was standing in front of a closed door that led to the patient area while the tour guide was speaking. I felt as if the room was slowly spinning and I felt odd and off balance. ( I am a sensitive.) Before leaving I snapped a photo of the door which was a solid wooden door with nothing on it. I did not see these images with my naked eye, but they were there when the photo was developed.
