Arrow Military Industrial Complex

President Eisenhower Speech...
Quote:
The military–industrial complex, or military–industrial–congressional complex, comprises the policy and monetary relationships which exist between legislators, national armed forces, and the arms industry that supports them.. These relationships include political contributions, political approval for military spending, lobbying to support bureaucracies, and oversight of the industry.. It is a type of iron triangle..The term is sometimes used more broadly to include the entire network of contracts and flows of money and resources among individuals as well as corporations and institutions of the defense contractors, The Pentagon, the Congress and executive branch..Whilst the term originated in the 1960s and has been applied since, the concept of co-ordination between government, the military, and the arms industry largely finds its roots since the private sector began providing weaponry to government-run forces.. The relationship between government and the defense industry can include political contracts placed for weapons, general bureaucratic oversight and organized lobbying on the part of the defense companies for the maintenance of their interests...

The grave of an unknown British airborne soldier at Arnhem..

Grosvenor Square is a large garden square in the exclusive Mayfair district of London, England..During the Second World War, Dwight D.Eisenhower established a military headquarters at 20 Grosvenor Square, and during this time the square was nicknamed "Eisenhower Platz"..US Navy used the building as its HQ for United States Naval Forces Europe..It is the centrepiece of the Mayfair property of the Duke of Westminster, and takes its name from their surname, "Grosvenor"...

For centuries, many governments owned and operated their own arms manufacturing companies-such as naval yards and arsenals..Governments also legislated to maintain state monopolies. As limited liability companies attracted capital to develop technology, governments saw the need to develop relationships with companies who could supply weaponry.. By the late 19th century the new complexity of modern warfare required large subsets of industry to be devoted to the research and development of rapidly maturing technologies.. Rifled, automatic firearms, artillery and gunboats, and later, mechanized armour, aircraft and missiles required specialized knowledge and technology to build.. For this reason, governments increasingly began to integrate private firms into the war effort by contracting out weapons production to them.. It was this relationship that marked the creation of the military–industrial complex..The first modern military–industrial complexes arose in Britain, France and Germany in the 1880s and 1890s as part of the increasing need to defend their respective empires both on the ground and at sea.. The naval rivalry between Britain and Germany, and the French desire for revenge against the German Empire for the defeat of the Franco-Prussian war, was significant in the inception, growth and development of these MICs. Arguably, the existence of these three nations' respective MICs may have helped to fuel their military tensions...

After WWI, most countries did not demobilize; instead there was a shift toward faster integration of technology into military usage and strengthening relationships between the military and private companies in Britain, France and Germany. In the newly formed USSR, military production was controlled entirely by the state.. The period after the war also saw the emergence of MICs in both Japan and the United States.. During the rearmament period in the late 1930s in Europe, military spending doubled..The economic effect of World War II was profound, as military spending shot up and new methods of taxation and spending were adopted.. The war also saw the first massive military research programs, notably the Allied project to create nuclear weapons..The end of the war saw the emergence of Cold War rivalry which involved a constant arms race between the two new superpowers, the USA and USSR.. The low-intensity, but constant threat of conflict created an atmosphere where there was a constant perception of the need for sustained military procurement...

Lightbulb Infantera

Colonel Kurtz horror..
Quote:
Infantry is the branch of a military force that fights on foot.. As the troops who are intended to engage, fight, and defeat the enemy in face-to-face combat, they bear the brunt of warfare and typically suffer the greatest number of casualties.. Historically, as the oldest branch of the combat arms, the infantry are the tip of the spear of a modern army, and continually undergo training that is more physically stressful and psychologically demanding than that of any other branch of the combat arms..Infantry doctrine is the concise expression of how infantry forces contribute to campaigns, major operations, battles, and engagements.. It is a guide to action, not a set of hard and fast rules...

Darth Zone..The Missiles Are Flying..
Quote:
Civilian casualties occurs as a result of military actions such as the widespread use of weapons of mass destruction (i.e., chemical weapons) by all major belligerents during the First World War.. Though officers on both sides of the conflict maintained that the use of chemical weapons was only limited on the battlefield, strong winds frequently blew the poison gases on nearby civilian towns.. Since civilians had neither warning systems nor access to effective gas masks, they were at high risk of being exposed to deadly pison gas effects.. An estimated 100,000-260,000 civilians were either killed or wounded by chemical weapons during the First World War and tens of thousands of more (along with the military) died from scarring of the lungs, skin damage, and cerebral damage in the years after the conflict ended.. In the year 1920 alone, over 40,000 civilians and 20,000 military personnel died from the chemical weapons effects..The U.S. Army Air Forces also carried out destructive air raids against enemy mine cities on its own, using incendiary bombs to burn down Japanese cities such as the Operation Meetinghouse bombing of Tokyo (most deadliest single raid in military aviation history), as well as the raids on Kobe, Osaka, Nagoya, and 64 others..

There are some results of the karma that we don’t experience in this life, if they are not ready to be experienced.. This is like a seed that is planted in the ground, but is not ready to sprout yet.. The result will be experienced in a future life unless we purify the negative karma, the cause of suffering, in this life..Heavy negative karma with a result that will be experienced in this life, is collected in connection with beating, scolding or killing..Some countries experience enjoyment for a long time, then all of a sudden things go wrong..Anyway, as we develop our mind through meditation practice we can understand karma.. As we do purification and purify ignorance, we can see karma more and more clearly.. Sometimes when we have purified enough, we attain the psychic power to remember our past and see the future.. At that time, we can clearly see our karma.. Even though at the moment we cannot see our karma and we cannot see the cause, we can certainly experience the result..

Lightbulb Psychops

Standard of Cyrus the Great..
Quote:
Although not always accredited as the first practitioner of psychological warfare, Alexander the Great undoubtedly showed himself to be effective in swaying the mindsets of the populaces that were conquered in his campaigns...

Psychological warfare (PSYWAR), or the basic aspects of modern psychological operations (PSYOP), have been known by many other names or terms, including Psy Ops, Political Warfare, “Hearts and Minds,” and Propaganda..Various techniques are used, by any set of groups, and aimed to influence a target audience's value systems, belief systems, emotions, motives, reasoning, or behavior..It is used to induce confessions or reinforce attitudes and behaviors favorable to the originator's objectives, and are sometimes combined with black operations or false flag tactics.. Target audiences can be governments, organizations, groups, and individuals..

The U.S. Department of Defense defines psychological warfare as:"The planned use of propaganda and other psychological actions having the primary purpose of influencing the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and behavior of hostile foreign groups in such a way as to support the achievement of national objectives"..

Gaugamela Battle Scene - Alexander...

"We do not kill our enemies, we get our enemies to kill each other"...

During World War II the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff defined psychological warfare more broadly stating "Psychological warfare employs any weapon to influence the mind of the enemy mine.. The weapons are psychological only in the effect they produce and not because of the weapons themselves..The Khan also employed tactics that made his numbers seem greater than they actually were.. During night operations he ordered each soldier to light three torches at dusk to give the illusion of an overwhelming army and deceive and intimidate enemy scouts.. He also sometimes had objects tied to the tails of his horses, so that riding on open and dry fields raised a cloud of dust that gave the enemy the impression of great numbers.. His soldiers used arrows specially notched to whistle as they flew through the air, creating a terrifying noise...

The British also had a fine diplomatic service that kept up good relations with many nations around the world, in contrast to the reputation of the German services.. While German attempts to foment revolution in parts of the British Empire, such as Ireland and India, were ineffective, extensive experience in the Middle East allowed the British to successfully induce the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman Empire..In August 1914, David Lloyd George appointed Charles Masterman MP, to head a Propaganda Agency at Wellington House. A distinguished body of literary talent was enlisted for the task, with its members including Arthur Conan Doyle, Ford Madox Ford, G. K. Chesterton, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling and H. G. Wells.. Over 1,160 pamphlets were published during the war and distributed to neutral countries, and eventually, to Germany..During the War, the British made extensive use of deception – developing many new techniques and theories..The United States ran an extensive program of psychological warfare during the Vietnam War.. The Phoenix Program had the dual aim of assassinating NLF personnel and terrorizing any potential sympathizers or passive supporters.. Chieu Hoi program of the South Vietnam government promoted NLF defections..When members of the PRG were assassinated, CIA and Special Forces operatives placed playing cards in the mouth of the deceased as a calling card..Social media has enabled the use of disinformation on a wide scale..The Southerner goes north, at any rate for the first time, with the vague inferiority-complex of a civilized man venturing among savages..

The Battle of Gaugamela (Γαυγάμηλα), also called the Battle of Arbela, was the decisive battle of Alexander the Great's invasion of the Persian Achaemenid Empire.. In 331 BC Alexander's army of the Hellenic League met the Persian army of Darius III near Gaugamela, close to the modern city of Mosul in Iraq.. Even though heavily outnumbered, Alexander emerged victorious due to his superior tactics and army.. It was a decisive victory for the Hellenic League and led to the fall of the Achaemenid Empire, also called the First Persian Empire or Medo-Persian Empire, was an empire based in Western Asia in Iran, founded in the 6th century BCE by Cyrus the Great...

http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...&postcount=163In a way, the world-view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on people incapable of understanding it..The object of waging a war is always to be in a better position in which to wage another war..A thousand influences constantly press a working man down into a passive role.. He does not act, he is acted upon... http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showp...&postcount=743

ComBat CounterIntelligence Training Film..
Quote:
The Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) was a World War II and early Cold War intelligence agency within the United States Army.. Its role was taken over by the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps in 1961 and, in 1967, by the U.S. Army Intelligence Agency. Its functions are now performed by the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command and by counterintelligence agents assigned to Army tactical units.. The National Counter Intelligence Corps Association (NCICA), a veterans' association, was established in the years immediately following World War II by Military Intelligence agents who had served in every area of military and domestic operations..

As Volume 7 of The History of the Counter Intelligence Corps explains: "Espionage and sabotage, being enemy directed, involved more than one person.. Usually there were a number in the chain extending from the agent in the United States back through cutouts and couriers to the enemy country.. This inevitably involved civilians with military suspects and the case became connected with the FBI..CIC units were also involved in providing security for the Manhattan Project, including duty as couriers of fissionable bomb materials from Los Alamos, New Mexico to Tinian.. They also operated in 1945 at the United Nations Organizing Conference in San Francisco, over which Alger Hiss presided as secretary-general..Three years later, when Alger Hiss was accused of being a Communist and filed a libel suit against his accuser, his lawyers unwittingly hired an undercover CIC Special Agent as their Chief Investigator to help prepare his libel suit...

Manhattan Project Shoulder Patch..

They were also involved in providing security for military installations and staging areas, located enemy agents, and acted to counter stay-behind networks.. They also provided training to combat units in security, censorship, the seizure of documents, and the dangers of booby traps.. In some cases CIC agents such as Henry Kissinger found themselves acting as the de facto military government on the occupation of large towns before the arrival of Allied Military Government for Occupied Territories (AMGOT) officers..While serving in the U.S. Army in the 1960s, Christopher H. Pyle learned that “Army intelligence had 1500 plain clothes agents watching every demonstration of 20 people or more throughout the United States..” Pyle’s disclosures led to Congressional investigations and a crackdown on what was regarded as the Army’s investigative excesses..One of CIC's operations in post-war Europe was the operation of a "rat-line" – a conduit for spiriting informants and defectors out of the Soviet Zones of Occupation to safety in South America, via Italy, with false identities paid for by CIC..A Department of Justice investigation also uncovered the CIC's dealings with Father Krunoslav Draganović, a Croatian cleric based in Rome, who while working for CIC, also operated his own clandestine rat-line to transport Ustaše war criminals to Latin America..The proliferation of intelligence agencies had meant duplication of effort and disputes over responsibility, so in 1961 the CIC ceased to exist as an independent organization, as it was rolled into the Army's new Military Intelligence Branch..

Selectivity.. They tend to pick and choose opponents carefully, either applying the hit-and-run approach against mere commentators supportive of opponents, or focusing heavier attacks on key opponents who are known to directly address issues.. Should a commentator become argumentative with any success, the focus will shift to include the commentator as well..Teamwork..They tend to OPerate in self-congratulatory and complementary packs or teams.; Of course, this can happen naturally in any public forum, but there will likely be an ongoing pattern of frequent exchanges of this sort where professionals are involved.. Sometimes one of the players will infiltrate the opponent camp to become a source for straw man or other tactics designed to dilute opponent presentation strength..In ancient Egypt when a body was mummified, its brain was removed through one of its nostrils..but did you know that in order to deter flies from landing on him the Pharaoh always kept several naked slaves nearby whose bodies were smeared with honey...Darth will slay with his wings whosoever disturbs the peace of Pharaoh...

Lightbulb CounterIntelligence

Theatrical release poster..
Quote:
Counterintelligence (CI) refers to information gathered and activities conducted to protect against espionage, other intelligence activities, sabotage, or assassinations conducted for or on behalf of foreign powers, organizations or persons or international terrorist activities, but not including personnel, physical, document or communications security programs..There is usually a domestic counterintelligence service, usually part of a larger law enforcement organization such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States...

Frank Wisner, a well-known CIA operations executive said of the autobiography of Director of Central Intelligence Allen W. Dulles, that Dulles "disposes of the popular misconception that counterintelligence is essentially a negative and responsive activity, that it moves only or chiefly in reaction to situations thrust upon it and in counter to initiatives mounted by the opposition" Rather, he sees that can be most effective, both in information gathering and protecting friendly intelligence services, when it creatively but vigorously attacks the "structure and personnel of hostile intelligence services"..Wisner emphasized his own, and Dulles', views that the best defense against foreign attacks on, or infiltration of, intelligence services is active measures against those hostile services.. This is often called counterespionage: measures taken to detect enemy espionage or physical attacks against friendly intelligence services, prevent damage and information loss, and, where possible, to turn the attempt back against its originator...

In the British service, the cases of the Cambridge Five, and the later suspicions about MI5 chief Sir Roger Hollis caused great internal dissension.. Clearly, the British were penetrated by Philby, but it has never been determined, in any public forum, if there were other serious penetrations..

Counter Intelligence | Part I - The Company ..

False-flag penetrator..A special case is a false-flag recruitment of a penetrator:

Starts in C
Believes being recruited by A
Actually is recruited by B and sends false information to C ..

There can be active and passive provocation agents.. A double agent may serve as a means through which a provocation can be mounted against a person, an organization, an intelligence or security service, or any affiliated group to induce action to its own disadvantage.. The provocation might be aimed at identifying members of the other service, at diverting it to less important objectives, at tying up or wasting its assets and facilities, at sowing dissension within its ranks, at inserting false data into its files to mislead it, at building up in it a tainted file for a specific purpose, at forcing it to surface an activity it wanted to keep hidden, or at bringing public discredit on it, making it look like an organization of idiots..

Disinformation may include distribution of forged documents, manuscripts, and photographs, or spreading dangerous rumours and fabricated intelligence.. Its techniques may also be found in commerce and government, used to try to undermine the position of a competitor..The major characteristic of black propaganda is that the people are not aware that someone is influencing them, and do not feel that they are being pushed in a certain direction..The term Information Warfare (IW) is primarily a United States Military concept involving the use and management of information and communication technology in pursuit of a competitive advantage over an opponent...

The 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot was a Line Infantry Regiment of the British Army.. In 1881 during the Childers Reforms it was united with the 91st (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot to form the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's)..The 93rd Regiment was raised 3 times before it became the Sutherland Highlanders..Upon the disbandment of the two regiments in 1799, the new 93rd Regiment was recruited from the recently disbanded Sutherland Fencibles by their old colonel William Wemyss, at this time a Major General in the British Army, on behalf of his 16-year-old cousin Elizabeth, Countess of Sutherland. Wemyss had the remaining volunteers from all over Sutherland lined up by parish, selected those he thought most suitable and issued each of these a pinch of snuff, a dram of whisky and their bounty money.. When the regiment first mustered, in Strathnaver in August 1800, not a single man selected by Wemyss failed to report.. There is a cairn at Skail, in Strathnaver, marking the spot where this muster took place...September 1800: Dispatched from Ft. George, via Aberdeen, to Guernsey..23 December 1814: 93rd lands near New Orleans. Arrive in time to help turn flank of American surprise night attack...

Battle of Balaclava..

The Thin Red Line is a 1881 oil-on-canvas painting by Robert Gibb depicting the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot at the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854, during the Crimean War.. In an incident which became known as the "The Thin Red Line", a two-deep line of around 500 red-coated Scottish infantry from the Highland Brigade - with support from a battalion of around 1,000 Turkish infantry and six guns of field artillery - stood firm against a force of around 2,500 Russian cavalrymen..The painting was inspired by Gibb's reading of Alexander Kinglake's book The Invasion of the Crimea.. The painting was 1 of 3 by Gibb on Crimean War themes, the others depicting incidents from the Battle of Alma (Alma: Advance of the 42nd Highlanders, 1889) and the Battle of Inkerman (Saving the Colours; the Guards at Inkerman, 1895)..Gibb was born in Lauriston, the son of a builder..By the end of the next decade he had begun to establish his reputation as a painter of battles...

As of 2014, 8,000 local law enforcement agencies participated in the reutilization program that has transferred $5.1 billion in military hardware from the Department of Defense to local American law enforcement agencies since 1997.. According to the DLA, material worth $449 million was transferred in 2013 alone. The most commonly obtained item from the 1033 program is ammunition. Some of the other most commonly requested items include cold weather clothing, sand bags, medical supplies, sleeping bags, flashlights and electrical wiring. Grenade launchers and vehicles such as aircraft, watercraft and armored vehicles have also been obtained...

Slide from the Defense Logistics Agency's brochure, describing the 1033 Program's transfer of military equipment to American police forces...

DLA public-affairs chief Kenneth MacNevin stated in 2012, that "more than 30 Arizona police agencies have been suspended or terminated for failing to meet program standards and nine remain under suspension".. One of them was the Maricopa County, Arizona law enforcement after failing to account for 20 of the 200 military weapons it had received..The suspension did not affect police acquisition of high powered weaponry due to anti-racketeering or confiscated drug funds, according to Maricopa's Sheriff..In North Carolina, law officials are working to reinstate the 1033 program through more rigorous inventory management, after the state was suspended for failing to account for some transferred equipment.. North Carolina officials state that 3,303 out of the 4,227 pieces of equipment obtained through the program are tactical items including automatic weapons and military vehicles and the remainder is not used in combat, and includes cots, containers and generators...Fusion reported in August 2014 that a total of 184 state and local police departments had been suspended from the program for missing weapons and failure to comply with guidelines..Missing items included M14 and M16 assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, and two Humvee vehicles..

Arrow .408 Cheyenne Tactical

Range 2,200 yards (2,000 m)...
Quote:
Is a specialized rimless, bottlenecked, centerfire cartridge for military long-range sniper rifles that was developed by Dr. John D. Taylor and machinist William O. Wordman.. The round was designed with a possible military need for a cartridge for anti-personnel, anti-sniper and anti-materiel roles with a (supersonic) precision..408 Cheyenne Tactical is based on the .400 Taylor Magnum, which is based on a modified .505 Gibbs, necked down to 0.408 inches (10.36 mm).. The .505 Gibbs is an old English big game cartridge that was designed to accommodate 39,160 psi (270 MPa) pressure (designed by George Gibbs in 1911)..One of the disadvantages to these old cartridge cases intended for firing cordite charges instead of modern smokeless powder is the thickness of the sidewall just forward to the web..It is offered as a competitor to the most common military NATO long-range service cartridges such as .338 Lapua Magnum and the .50 BMG..

State Road 408.. East-West Expressway..

In modern solidhead cases, the hardness of the brass is the major factor that determines a case's pressure limit before undergoing plastic deformation. Lapua Ltd. solved this problem when they used the .416 Rigby (dangerous game cartridge) as the parental case to the .338 Lapua Magnum..The .408 CheyTac serves as the parent for several other second-generation wildcat cartridges..A wildcat cartridge, is a custom cartridge for which ammunition and/or firearms are not mass-produced..Most .408 CheyTac factory ammunition uses solid projectiles or bullets rather than jacketed lead-core bullets, which are common to most other rifle bullets..Lost River Ballistic Technologies stated that "the .408 CheyTac is the first bullet/rifle system that utilizes what they call a balanced flight projectile..According to the patent a projectile engraved and launched in accordance with the patent should decelerate from supersonic flight through transonic to subsonic in a stable and predictable manner effective to a range beyond 3000 yards (2,743 m)..Designed 2001..The .400 Taylor Magnum is a rifle cartridge. It was derived from "a modified .505 Gibbs, necked down to 0.375 inches".. The .408 Cheyenne Tactical and the .375 Cheyenne Tactical were later based on the .400 Taylor Magnum..Wildcat cartridges are developed for many reasons..The Ackley Improved family of wildcat cartridges are designed to be easily made by rechambering existing firearms, and fireforming the ammunition to decrease body taper and increase shoulder angle, resulting in a higher case capacity...

Matildás Sniper Training...

The Lobaev Sniper Rifle variant chambered for .408 Chey Tac is believed to be used by the Federal Protective Service of Russia..The second variant is the OVL, ОВЛ..The Picatinny rail consists of a series of ridges with a T-shaped cross-section interspersed with flat "spacing slots", similar to the Weaver rail mount..Feed system single shot 5-round detachable box magazine..The CheyTac Intervention is an American bolt-action sniper rifle manufactured by CheyTac LLC.. It is fed by a 7-round detachable single-stack magazine..CheyTac specially developed the .408 Chey Tac cartridge for long-range use.. The cartridge is optimized for accuracy by a balance of the rotational and linear drag, which reduces yaw and precession, and keeps the tip of the projectile pointed along the trajectory..Used by Amphibious Commandos Group (Agrupación de Comandos Anfibios) is a special operations force of the Argentine Marine Corps..It was created in 1952 by the Vigilance and Security Company of Submarine Bases (Base Naval Mar del Plata)..On April 2, 1982, the unit integrated with the Amphibious Task Force in the Falkland Islands War, taking part in the Governor's House battle, the assault on Moody Brook barracks, the combat of the South Georgia Islands and a couple of recce missions..The Bristol 408 is a British luxury car made by Bristol Cars between 63 and 66.. Unusually for Bristol, a slightly revised version was launched during the middle of the model's production run in 1965 and known as the 408 Mark II...

Could you tell me what he looked like?..Like I told the officer on the phone, I don't pay attention to how my customers look..Don't you think it's strange?. A man walks in here and buys a high-powered rifle, a shotgun, and enough ammunition to start World War III?. Wouldn't that make your attention?..Look Lieutenant, I don't choose the customers!..http://forum.davidicke.com/showpost....postcount=1485

USACE Logo..
Quote:
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE, also sometimes shortened to CoE is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense and a major Army command made up of some 37,000 civilian and military personnel, making it one of the world's largest public engineering, design, and construction management agencies...The history of United States Army Corps of Engineers can be traced back to 16 June 1775, when the Continental Congress organized an army with a chief engineer and two assistants..Colonel Richard Gridley became General George Washington's first chief engineer; however, it was not until 1779 that Congress created a separate Corps of Engineers. One of its first tasks was to build fortifications near Boston at Bunker Hill.. The first corps was mostly composed of French subjects who had been hired by General Washington from the service of Louis XVI..

Radiation Safety Support Team..

From the beginning, many politicians wanted the corps to contribute to both military construction and works of a civil nature..The Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works under the civilian oversight of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works)..USACE provides support directly and indirectly to the warfighting effort.. They build and help maintain much of the infrastructure that the Army and the Air Force use to train, house, and deploy troops..USACE built and maintained navigation systems and ports provide the means to deploy vital equipment and other material..USACE supports the US Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through its security planning, force protection, research and development, disaster preparedness efforts, and quick response to emergencies and disasters..The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers environmental mission has two major focus areas: restoration and stewardship..The Regulatory Program is authorized to protect the nation's aquatic resources.. The Corps evaluates permit applications for essentially all construction activities that occur in the Nation's waters, including wetlands.. Two primary authorities granted to the Army Corps of Engineers by Congress fall under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act...

Engineers Shoulder Sleeve Insignia...

The Corps of Engineers branch insignia, the Corps Castle, is believed to have originated on an informal basis.. In 1841, cadets at West Point wore insignia of this type. In 1902, the Castle was formally adopted by the Corps of Engineers as branch insignia.. The "castle" is actually the Pershing Barracks at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York..Some of the Corps of Engineers' civil works projects have been characterized in the press as being pork barrel or boondoggles such as the New Madrid Floodway Project and the New Orleans flood protection...A number of Army camps and facilities designed by the Corps of Engineers, including the former Camp O'Ryan in New York State, have reportedly had a negative impact on the surrounding communities.. Camp O'Ryan, with its rifle range, has possibly contaminated well and storm runoff water with lead.. This runoff water eventually runs into the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, sources of drinking water to millions of people..Bunnatine "Bunny" Greenhouse, a formerly high-ranking official in the Corps, won a lawsuit against the United States government in July 2011.. Greenhouse had objected to the Corps accepting cost projections from KBR in a no-bid, noncompetitive, contract. After she complained, Greenhouse was demoted from her Senior Executive Service position, stripped of her top secret security clearance, and even, according to Greenhouse, had her office booby-trapped with a trip-wire from which she sustained a knee injury..The Howard A. Hanson Dam's strength is unpredictable and the possibility of flood hazard has been announced.. Repair on the dam has reduced flood threat significantly and the Army Corps of Engineers continues work to strengthen the partially earthen dam..Most of the river above and including Eagle Gorge Reservoir are part of the Green River Watershed..Although only a few bodies were found in the river, the unidentified killer was known as the "Green River Killer"..Between 1880 and 1888, the Northern Pacific Railway explored and surveyed the Green River.. The railway constructed the first direct rail link across Washington's Cascade Range with the opening of their Stampede Tunnel in 1888...

Brainwashed..

The Kremlin says secret plans for a Russian long-range nuclear torpedo - called "Status-6" - should not have appeared on Russian TV news..The leak happened during a report on state-run Channel One about President Vladimir Putin meeting military chiefs in the city of Sochi..

Technical details of the torpedo ..

One general was seen studying a diagram of the "devastating" torpedo system..Launched by a submarine, it would create "wide areas of radioactive contamination", the document says..On the diagram the giant torpedo's range is given as "up to 10,000km" (6,200 miles) and depth of trajectory is "up to 1,000m" (3,300ft)..It was developed by Rubin, a submarine design bureau in St Petersburg...

In 1881, the Palestine Exploration Fund's Survey of Western Palestine (SWP) described Al-Nabi Rubin: This is a small village round the tomb of the Neby, containing about ninety Moslems, it is situated on a prominent top, and surrounded by many olives, a few figs and arable land; there are two cisterns and a birket near..In the Islamic world, the Bimaristans were described by European travelers, who wrote on their wonder at the care and kindness shown to lunatics...

The rise of the lunatic asylum and its gradual transformation into, and eventual replacement by, the modern psychiatric hospital, explains the rise of organized, institutional psychiatry...

First edition dust jacket..
Quote:
Death Comes for the Archbishop is a 1927 novel by American author Willa Cather.. It concerns the attempts of a Catholic bishop and a priest to establish a diocese in New Mexico Territory..The narrative is based on two historical figures, Jean-Baptiste Lamy and Joseph Projectus Machebeuf and rather than any one singular plot, is the stylized re-telling of their lives serving as Roman Catholic clergy in New Mexico.. The narrative has frequent digressions, either in terms of stories related to the pair (including the story of the Our Lady of Guadeloupe and the murder of an oppressive Spanish priest at Acoma Pueblo) or through their recollections.. The narrator is in the Third-Person Omniscient style..and partially chronicles the construction of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.. The capture of the Southwest by the US in the Mexican–American War is the catalyst for the plot..

The X-Files..

In the prologue, Bishop Montferrand, a French bishop who works in the New World, is soliciting 3 cardinals at Rome to pick his candidate for the newly-created diocese of New Mexico..The action then switches to the primary character, Bishop Jean Marie Latour, who travels with his friend and vicar Joseph Vaillant from Sandusky, Ohio to New Mexico..The names given to the main proponents reflect their characters..Vaillant, valiant, is fearless in his promulgation of the faith, whereas Latour, the tower, is more intellectual and reserved than his comrade.. Vaillant, described as being ugly but purpose-filled, is given the nickname "Blanchet" ("Whitey") as well as "Trompe-la-morte" ("Darth-cheater") for his complexion and his numerous instances of bad health, respectively... While the narrative speaks of Vaillant positively, it also alludes to his willingness to acquire (he "forces the hand" of a landowner into giving himself and Latour two prize mules, Angelica and Contento, chastises the widow Dona Isabella Olivares for refusing to assert her rights under her husband's will and thereby blocking the church from its testamentary share, and goes on frank "begging trips" to acquire money) and near the end of the novel his questionable financial behaviour receives an investigation from Rome..Cather portrays the aboriginal people of the Pueblos, the Hopi and the Navajo sympathetically, including a discussion of the Long Walk of the Navajo...

The Lockheed Corporation (originally the Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company) was an American aerospace company..The Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company was established in San Francisco in 1912 by the brothers Allan and Malcolm Loughead.. In 1916, the company was renamed and relocated to Santa Barbara, California, the same year Santa Barbara native Jack Northrop (aged 20) took his first job in aviation working as a draftsman for Loughead Aircraft..The Lockheed Model 14 formed the basis for the Hudson bomber, which was supplied to both the British Royal Air Force and the US military before and during World War II.. Its primary role was submarine hunting.. The Model 14 Super Electra were sold abroad, and more than 100 were license-built in Japan for use by the Imperial Japanese Army..

What's My Line Mary?..

Attack using the strength of another..Trick an ally into attacking him, bribe an official to turn traitor, or use the enemy's own strength against him.. The idea here is to cause damage to the enemy by getting a third party to do the deed..Create confusion and use this confusion to further your own goals..Borrow the resources of an ally to attack a common enemy.. Once the enemy is defeated, use those resources to turn on the ally that tentpeg you them in the first place...

At the beginning of World War II, Lockheed – under the guidance of Clarence (Kelly) Johnson, who is considered one of the best-known American aircraft designers – answered a specification for an interceptor by submitting the P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft, a twin-engined, twin-boom design.. The P-38 was responsible for shooting down more Japanese aircraft than any other U.S. Army Air Force type during the war; it is particularly famous for being the aircraft type that shot down Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's airplane.. His father was Sadayoshi Takano (高野 貞吉), an intermediate-rank samurai of the Nagaoka Domain..The domain was ruled by the Makino clan for most of its history which originated in 16th-century Mikawa Province..Lockheed ranked 10th among US corporations in the value of wartime production contracts..Starting with the P-80, Lockheed's secret development work was conducted by its Advanced Development Division, more commonly known as the Skunk Works..In 1976, it was publicly revealed that Lockheed had paid $22 million in bribes to foreign officials in the process of negotiating the sale of aircraft including the F-104 Starfighter, the so-called Deal of the Century...

MILAN (French: Missile d´infanterie léger antichar; English: Light anti-tank infantry missile, milan(e) is French for kite) is a European anti-tank guided missile.. Design of the MILAN started in 1962, it was ready for trials in 1971, and was accepted for service in 1972.. It is a wire guided SACLOS (semi-automatic command to line-of-sight) missile, which means the sight of the launch unit has to be aimed at the target to guide the missile...

View through MILAN optical sight..

MILAN is a French / German missile that has been license-built by Italy, Spain, Britain and India..As it is guided by wire by an operator, this missile can avoid most countermeasures (flares, chaff and radio jammers)..The drawbacks are its short range, the exposure of the operator, problems with overland powerlines and a vulnerability to infrared jammers such as Shtora that can prevent the automatic tracking of the missile's IR tail light..We believe that the cost of a Milan missile is currently in the region of £12,000 and that to date, the UK MoD has purchased over 50,000 missiles-The' Sahara' 12x50 are supplied with carrying case, rain guards, tethered lens caps, straps and lens cleaning cloth Ma'am..
