That's what I'm saying. You can here his lack of promise in human treatment in TRYING to convince people it would be "difficult" in human trials. They say these reports ONLY to get funding and popular support same as with NASA and the need to be dissolved Space Program. These two get BILLIONS and atleast hundreds of millions to pocket for wasteful "research" which decade after decade produces nothing of benefit.

There are a number of newer and better treatments in clinical trials as well. BMS-626529 (Temsavir) is a prodrug (the body metabolizes it into the active drug) which is then converted into BMS-663068 (Fostemsavir). This then binds to the HIV gp120 protein and blocks the viral attachment to the host CD4+ T cells, preventing entry into the hosts immune cells. Both these drugs are by BMS (Bristol-Myers Squibb). This is an attachment inhibitor. Here is some more info on them http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23774428 and also http://news.bms.com/press-release/48...ase-iii-trial-

Also there is gene editing of either CCR5 or CXCR4 http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1300662 Calimmune http://www.calimmune.com/ has funding to start a Phase I with it's edited T cells for CCR5. Also Sangamo Biosciences http://www.sangamo.com/index.html are doing the same, but also can deal with CXCR4, sequentially or simultaneously. These are entry inhibitors.

Then there are therapeutic vaccines made from a persons dendritic cells primed with heat-inactivated HIV. When a microorganism like HIV invades the body, cells called phagocytes chop up the virus and break it into small fragments. Some of these pieces find their way into the membranes of DCs. The DCs then present the pieces of HIV to lymphocytes, white blood cells that then launch a specific immune response against the virus. The problem is that DCs can also carry a part of the infectious virus on their outer membrane. Consequently, the white blood cells can get infected and die instead of developing an immune response.

A small study had 36 HIV positive participants with CD4+ T-cell counts above 450 cells/mm on it. All were on combination ART (antiviral drugs) at study entry. They were randomly assigned to either receive 3 immunizations using their own DCs either "pulsed" with heat-disabled HIV or unaltered (placebo). Vaccination using the pulsed DCs was found to be feasible, safe, and well-tolerated. The vaccine was able to stimulate an immune response against HIV and "shifted the virus/host balance" in favor of the host. At week 12 after ART interruption, 55% of people in the pulsed vaccine group saw their viral load set-point decrease by at least 10-fold or 90%, compared with just 9% in the control group. At week 24, these proportions dropped to 35% and 0%, respectively. By week 48, only about 15% in the pulsed vaccine group still had viral suppression. The significant decrease in viral load seen in recipients of the pulsed vaccine was associated with a consistent increase in HIV-specific T-cell responses. The reported adverse events were lymph node enlargement, injection site redness, and flu-like symptoms http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/5/166/166ra2.abstract There have also been other studies using this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25042008

They have also looked at IL-15. The cytokine is essential for the development and differentiation of many types of immune cells, like NK cells, CD4+, CD8+ memory T cells, and NKT cells. It also acts as a survival factor and inhibits spontaneous apoptosis (cell death) in T, B and NK cells. Furthermore, IL-15 may also act as a better adjuvant in eliciting antiviral immunity in anti-HIV vaccine strategies http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20719708 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16022657

New Study Suggests HIV-Prevention Pill May Be 100% Effective

Researchers working with 600 people who use the HIV prevention pill Truvada have just revealed their striking results: after more than two-and-a-half years, no new HIV infections have been detected. The work was published in Clinical Infectious Diseases http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/conten...iv778.abstract this week.

The daily pill Truvada is what’s known as an HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Green-lit by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsro.../ucm312210.htm in July 2012, it's the first drug approved that reduces the risk of infection in uninfected individuals who may engage in sexual activity with HIV-infected partners. When the person is exposed to HIV, two anti-retroviral medicines (called tenofovir and emtricitabine) contained within the pill work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection when taken consistently, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/prevention/research/prep/

Early on, the blue pill was criticized for encouraging unsafe sex because of a false sense of security http://www.sfgate.com/health/article...dy-6479405.php as some have reported. However, a published study http://journals.plos.org/plosone/art...l.pone.0081997 that looked at sexual risk compensation in those taking PrEP found this not to be the case, and in fact observed a trend http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...9BI02I20131219 towards safer sex.

For this study in San Francisco, a Kaiser Permanente team http://share.kaiserpermanente.org/ar...iv-infections/ tracked 657 PrEP users, almost all of whom were gay or bisexual men, over the course of 32 months. Despite the high rates of sexually transmitted infections among the participants - as well as reports of risky behavior, such as injection drug use and decreased condom use - there were no new HIV infections among this study group. So they did contract STIs including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, but not HIV.

''This is very reassuring data,'' study leader Jonathan Volk of Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center told the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/03/he...free.html?_r=0 ''It tells us that PrEP works even in a high-risk population.'' It's best combined with condoms and frequent STI-testing.

This is the first real-world study of Truvada. Although, observational studies aren't typically considered as scientifically rigorous as randomized clinical trials that utilize control groups and placebos. Also, the researchers don't know for sure if the participants took their pills regularly. ''PrEP is another line of defense,'' Volk said. ''I don't think PrEP is right for everybody. But for the folks who need it, it works,'' he added in an interview with SF Gate
