The device was described as a 'small bomb by IRA standards' by a contemporary news report, and may have avoided detection by sniffer dogs by being wrapped in cling film to mask the smell of the explosive..On 24 June 1985 he was arrested in Glasgow, Scotland with other members of an IRA active service unit while planning further bombings..Of those killed in the bombing, Magee said: "I deeply regret that anybody had to lose their lives, but at the time did the Tory ruling class expect to remain immune from what their frontline troops were doing to us?"

Dún Laoghaire, the older anglicisation of which, Dunleary, is also sometimes found) is a suburban seaside town in County Dublin, Ireland..The town's name means "fort of Laoghaire".. This refers to Lóegaire mac Néill (modern spelling: Laoghaire Mac Néill), a 5th-century High King of Ireland, who chose the site as a sea base from which to carry out raids on Britain and Gaul..The harbour, one of the largest in the country, and base for a now limited car ferry route to Great Britain, is notable for its two granite piers.. The East Pier is particularly popular with walkers, and was featured in the 96 movie Michael Collins, and two of his co-stars are seen walking along a seaside promenade, which is actually the Dún Laoghaire East Pier..Dún Laoghaire was hit by stray German bombs during World War II, a couple of bombs landing near the People's Park at Rosmeen Gardens.. Damage from the bombs was limited to buildings..Dún Laoghaire also holds other company headquarters, such as those of Bord Iascaigh Mhara and Lionbridge Ireland..

The bridge was known as Lions Bridge from the carved stone lions on pedestals at intervals on its length. The lake dried up in the 19th century and the bridge collapsed in 1905.. 2 stone lions were moved to Bank Hall until the 70s when they were moved to the estate office in Tarleton was a chapelry in the parish of Croston and subsequently a parish in the Leyland hundred...

Fort Walsh Detail 1 by Briantoronto...
Quote:
The midsection of the building collapsed into the basement, leaving a gaping hole in the hotel's façade.. Firemen said that many lives were likely saved because the well-built Victorian hotel remained standing..5 people were killed, although none of them were government ministers..Several more, including Margaret Tebbit—the wife of Norman Tebbit, who was then President of the Board of Trade—were left permanently disabled..When hospital staff asked Tebbit whether he was allergic to anything, he answered "bombs"...At about 4:00 a.m., as Thatcher left the police station, she gave an impromptu interview to the BBC's John Cole, saying that the conference would go on as usual.. Alistair McAlpine persuaded Marks & Spencer to open early at 8:00 a.m. so those who had lost their clothes in the bombing could get new ones.. Thatcher went from the conference to visit the injured at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.. Don't you even know where you were born?. Your mother must have told you...

The company was founded by a partnership between Michael Marks, a Belarusian Jew from Slonim (Marks was born into a Polish-Jewish family, a Polish refugee living in the Russian Empire (now in Belarus)), and Thomas Spencer, a cashier from the English market town of Skipton in North Yorkshire.. On his arrival in England, Marks worked for a company in Leeds, called Barran, which employed refugees (see Sir John Barran, 1st Baronet).. In 1884 he met Isaac Jowitt Dewhirst while looking for work. Dewhirst lent Marks £5 which he used to establish his Penny Bazaar on Kirkgate Market, in Leeds.. Dewhirst also taught him a little English. Dewhirst's cashier was Tom Spencer, an excellent bookkeeper, whose lively and intelligent second wife, Agnes, helped improve Marks' English.. In 1894, when Marks acquired a permanent stall in Leeds' covered market, he invited Spencer to become his partner..

One of her biographers wrote that Thatcher's "coolness, in the immediate aftermath of the attack and in the hours after it, won universal admiration.. Her defiance was another Churchillian moment in her premiership which seemed to encapsulate both her own steely character and the British public's stoical refusal to submit to terrorism".. Immediately afterwards, her popularity soared almost to the level it had been during the Falklands War..Thatcher was a hated figure in some sections of British society.. At the time of the bombing, the miners' strike was underway.. Morrissey, frontman of the popular English alternative rock band The Smiths, said shortly after: "the only sorrow of the Brighton bombing is that Thatcher escaped unscathed"..In 86, English punk band the Angelic Upstarts celebrated the IRA's assassination attempt with their controversial single "Brighton Bomb"..Daily Telegraph journalist David Hughes called the bombing "the most audacious attack on a British government since the Gunpowder Plot" and wrote that it "marked the end of an age of comparative innocence.. From that day forward, all party conferences in this country have become heavily defended citadels"..Sir, have these children never heard of Jesus?..

The Wicker Man Deleted Scene - Opening (legendado)...

Walsh is an Irish surname, meaning "Briton" or "foreigner," literally "Welshman,"taken to Ireland by British (Welsh, Cornish and Cumbrian) soldiers during and after the Norman invasion of Ireland.. It is most common in County Mayo and County Kilkenny..The Walsh matrix (and Walsh functions) are used in computing the Walsh transform and have applications in the efficient implementation of certain signal processing operations..Fort Walsh is a National Historic Site of Canada that was a North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) fort and the site of the Cypress Hills Massacre.. It involved a group of American Bison hunters, American wolf hunters or 'wolfers', American and Canadian whisky traders, Métis cargo haulers or 'freighters', and a camp of Nakoda (or Assiniboine) people..resulting in 23 confirmed Nakota deaths and the death of one wolfer, Ed LeGrace.. Both trading posts were subsequently abandoned and burned..Walsh Jesuit High School is a private, Jesuit high school in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.. Founded in 1964, the school was funded by a gift from and named after Cornelius and Jane Walsh..Walsh is a convention used in the card game of bridge in Response to an opening bid of 1♣...

Corporals Derek Wood and David Howes (23)..Reported by a local taxi driver..killed by IRA 19 March 88...
Quote:
The Volkswagen Passat is a large family car produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen since 73, through 8 design generations..Though numerous sources suggest the Passat nameplate derives from the German word for trade wind, reflecting the period in Volkswagen's history when it named its vehicles after prominent winds and currents..The 5-cylinder version was sold in the U.S. as the Quantum GL-5..On March 31, 1988 production ended with 3,345,248 built in Germany.. World production totals amount to at least 4.5 million units..On 6 March 88, three unarmed IRA members preparing for a bomb attack on the band of the Royal Anglian Regiment were killed by members of the Special Air Service in Gibraltar during Operation Flavius..

The Mac Brádaigh funeral was making its way along the Andersonstown Road towards Milltown Cemetery when the car containing the two corporals appeared.. The car headed straight towards the front of the funeral, which was headed by several black taxis.. It drove past a Sinn Féin steward who signalled it to turn.. When the driver attempted to extricate the car from the cortege his exit route was blocked by a black taxi...

Mac Brádaigh derives from the term brádach, meaning "thieving" or "dishonest", though its original sense seems to have denoted "spirited".. The family were natives of Breifne and Airgíalla..The surname is generally anglicised as Brady..Seán Mac Brádaigh (AKA Sean Brady) is an adviser and spokesman for the Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams..He has been a leading republican activist for many years...

The Shankill Butchers was an Ulster loyalist gang—many of whom were members of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF)—that was active between 1975 and 1982 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.. It was based in the Shankill area and was responsible for the deaths of at least 23 people, most of whom were killed in sectarian attacks.. The gang was notorious for kidnapping and murdering random civilians from the Catholic community; each was beaten ferociously and had his throat hacked with a butcher's knife.. Some were also tortured and attacked with a hatchet.. The gang also killed six Protestants over personal disputes, and two other Protestants mistaken for Catholics..On 28 September 1972 Murphy (aged 20) shot and killed William Edward "Ted" Pavis (32) at the latter's home in East Belfast.. Pavis was a Protestant whom the UVF believed was selling weapons to the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA).. Murphy and an accomplice, Mervyn Connor, were arrested shortly afterwards and held on remand in Belfast's Crumlin Road prison.. After a visit by police to Connor, fellow inmates suspected that he might cut a deal with the authorities with regard to the Pavis killing.. On 22 April 1973, Connor died by ingesting a large dose of cyanide..On 2 October 1975, the gang raided a drinks premises in nearby Millfield. On finding that its 4 employees (2 females and 2 males) were Catholics, Murphy shot 3 of them dead and ordered an accomplice to kill the fourth.. By now Murphy was using the upper floor of the Brown Bear pub, at the corner of Mountjoy Street and the Shankill Road near his home, as an occasional meeting-place for his unit...Ultimately a new £1.4m state-of-the-art school was announced as a replacement for the old building and this new school, which is on the adjacent Cairnmartin Road, was officially opened by Prince Andrew, Duke of York in 2005..Although the Shankill Road initially grew as part of the main road to Antrim it is no longer part of any wider network linking Belfast to neighbouring towns with its peripheral roads all either terminating in the mountains or linking to the Springfield Road..Buses link Belfast City Centre to the estates at the top of the Shankill as well as the Ballysillan area of the Crumlin Road..11B and C turn right onto Ballygomartin Road with 11B continuing to Springmartin and 11C turning right at Forthriver Road up to terminus at Glencairn which is at the top of the hill...

Shanklin is a popular seaside resort and civil parish on the Isle of Wight, England, located on the east coast's Sandown Bay. The sandy beach, its Old Village and a wooded ravine, Shanklin Chine, are its main attractions.. The esplanade along the beach is occupied by hotels and restaurants for the most part, and is one of the most tourist-oriented parts of the town..In July and August 1819 the poet John Keats lodged at Eglantine Cottage in the resort's High Street, where he completed the first book of Lamia and began a drama, Otho the Great, with his friend Charles Armitage Brown..In July 1868 the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow stayed at the Crab Inn in Shanklin's Old Village during his last visit to Europe and left a poem about it on a stone by the pub.. It is not generally held to be amongst his best work The other is the Old Village, at the top of Shanklin Chine..The Chine is open to the public for a small fee and continues up to Rylstone Gardens in the Old Village.. It contains a small section of the pipe of the "Operation Pluto" pipeline which ran across the Isle of Wight and out from Shanklin and another branch from Sandown to supply fuel to the D-Day beaches..Bus services to nearby towns and suburbs are run by Southern Vectis and Wightbus, mainly on routes 2, 3, and 23, principally from the bus stands at The CO-OP.. Shanklin used to have a pier, but this was destroyed in the Great Storm of 87..Stenbury Down is a chalk down on the Isle of Wight..There are also two prominent radio masts..The Sten emerged while Britain was engaged in the Battle of Britain, facing invasion by Germany.. The army was forced to replace weapons lost during the evacuation from Dunkirk while expanding at the same time..

Lightbulb Military Reconnaissance Force

PVR 93...
Quote:
The Military Reaction Force, Military Reconnaissance Force or Mobile Reconnaissance Force (MRF) was a covert intelligence-gathering and counter-insurgency unit of the British Army active in Northern Ireland, during the Troubles/Operation Banner.. The unit was formed during the summer of 1971 and operated until late 72 or early 73.. MRF teams operated in plain-clothes and civilian vehicles, equipped with pistols and sub-machine guns.. They were nominally tasked with tracking down and arresting, or killing, suspected members of the Irish Republican Army (IRA).. The MRF also ran double agents within the paramilitary groups and ran a number of front companies to gather intelligence.. In October 1972, the Provisional IRA uncovered and attacked two of the MRF's front companies—a mobile laundry service and a massage parlour—which contributed to the unit's dissolution...

Palace Barracks, Holywood..

The MRF killed and wounded a number of unarmed Catholic civilians in drive-by shootings.. One former member of the unit has described it as a "legalised death squad".. It has also been accused of colluding with illegal loyalist paramilitaries and carrying out false flag attacks.. The MRF was succeeded by the SRU (or 14 Intelligence Company) and, later, by the FRU..The MRF was established in the summer of 1971.. It appears to have its origins in ideas and techniques developed by British Army Brigadier Sir Frank Kitson, who had created "counter gangs" to defeat the Mau Mau in Kenya..The MRF was based at Palace Barracks in the Belfast suburb of Holywood.. The MRF's first commander was Captain Arthur Watchus.. In June 1972, he was succeeded as commander by Captain James 'Hamish' McGregor..It was split into squads, each of which was led by a Senior NCO who had served in the Special Air Service (SAS), Special Boat Service (SBS), the Royal Marines or the Parachute Regiment.. The unit consisted of up to 40 men, handpicked from throughout the British Army.. It also included a few women..According to military sources, the MRF would have up to nine soldiers deployed at any one time, with nine more on standby and the others resting...

Many details about the unit's modus operandi have been revealed by former members.. One issued a statement to the TOM in July 1978.. In 2012–13, a former MRF member using the covername 'Simon Cursey' gave a number of interviews and published the book MRF Shadow Troop, about his time in the unit. In November 2013, a BBC Panorama documentary was aired about the MRF.. It drew on information from se7en former members, as well as a number of other sources..The MRF had both a 'defensive' surveillance role and an 'offensive' role..MRF operatives dressed like civilians and were given fake identities and unmarked cars equipped with two-way radios.. They patrolled the streets in these cars in teams of two to four, tracking down and arresting or killing suspected IRA members.. They were armed with Browning pistols and Sterling sub-machine guns.. Former MRF members admitted that the unit shot unarmed people without warning, both IRA members and civilians, knowingly breaking the British Army's 'Rules of Engagement'..The MRF's surveillance operations included the use of front companies and disguises. Former members claim they posed as road sweepers, dustmen and even homeless meths-drinkers while carrying out surveillance..The MRF is known to have used double agents referred to as 'Freds'.. These were members of republican or loyalist paramilitaries who were 'recruited' by British Military Intelligence..Palace Barracks has been the Regimental Headquarters of the Royal Irish Regiment since 2008 and the home base of several squadrons of the 152 (Ulster) Transport Regiment (Volunteers).. In March 2010, it was the site of a bombing, one of several attacks carried out by "hardline Republicans"..Following these revelations, the leaders of the IRA's Belfast Brigade planned an operation against the MRF, which was to take place on 2 October 72.. The 2nd Battalion would attack the Four Square Laundry van and the office at College Square, while the 3rd Battalion would raid the massage parlour...

Lightbulb Day Trip to Bangor

Wings 1972 ABC SPECIAL REPORT: "Give Ireland Back To The Irish"..

The British security forces, however, had received detailed and accurate intelligence about the IRA's plans..It is believed that this was obtained by RUC Special Branch and the British Army's Special Reconnaissance Unit (SRU).. It has been alleged that the security forces had a double agent inside the IRA unit, and that he was killed by the SAS in the ambush..Other sources claim that the security forces had instead learned of the ambush through other surveillance methods..On 7 May, the RUC base was secretly evacuated and about 36 SAS soldiers, as well as officers from the RUC's Mobile Support Unit (MSU), were deployed.. The MSU was the RUC's equivalent of the SAS.. Most of the soldiers and officers were hidden around the base, with one team inside the base, and other teams hidden along the IRA’s anticipated route..The Special Reconnaissance Unit was a covert British Army unit involved in plain-clothes operations in Northern Ireland. Its troops were recruited from line battalions and trained in an 8-week course by the SAS..

The IRA's attack involved two teams.. One team would drive a digger with a bomb in its bucket through the base's perimeter fence and light the fuse.. At the same time, the other would arrive in a van and open fire on the base. Both teams would then leave the area in the van.. The van and digger that would be used were hijacked in the hours leading up to the attack.. The van, a blue Toyota HiAce, was taken from a business in Dungannon..The digger was taken from a farm at Lislasly Road, about two miles west of Loughgall.. Two IRA members stayed at the farm to stop the owners raising the alarm.. IRA member Declan Arthurs drove the digger, while two others drove ahead of him in a 'scout car'..The two IRA teams arrived in Loughgall from the northeast shortly after 7PM.. All were armed and wearing bulletproof vests, boilersuits, gloves and balaclavas.. The IRA men drove past the RUC base a number of times for reconnaissance..At about 7:15, Declan Arthurs drove the digger towards the base, with Gerard O'Callaghan and Tony Gormley riding alongside.. In the front bucket was 200 lb (90 kg) of semtex inside an oil drum, wired to two 40-second fuses.. The other 5 followed in the van: unit commander Kelly, Lynagh, McKearney, Eugene and Donnelly.. The digger crashed through the fence and the fuses were lit..Date 8 May 1987 Location 54°24′26.80″N 6°36′39.88″W..

Scene of Utter DevaStation...

Within seconds, the SAS opened fire from a number of hidden positions with M16 and H&K G3 rifles and L7A2 general-purpose machine guns.. The bomb detonated, destroying the digger along with much of the building, and injuring 3 members of the security forces..The SAS fired about 1,200 rounds at the IRA unit, riddling the van with bullets.. The 8 IRA members were killed in the hail of gunfire; all had multiple wounds and were shot in the head..Donnelly managed to escape into the football field beside the road, but was shot dead there.. It has been alleged that three of the wounded IRA members were shot dead as they lay on the ground after surrendering..Two civilians travelling in a car were also shot by the SAS.. The 2 brothers, Anthony and Oliver Hughes, were driving back from work and were wearing blue overalls like the IRA unit..The villagers had not been told of the operation and no attempt had been made to evacuate anyone or to seal-off the ambush zone, as this may have alerted the IRA..The security forces recovered one firearm from each dead IRA member at the scene: 3 H&K G3 rifles, one FN FAL rifle, two FN FNC rifles, a Franchi SPAS-12T shotgun and a Ruger Security-6 revolver.. The RUC linked the guns to seven killings and twelve attempted killings in the Mid-Ulster area.. The Ruger had been stolen from Reserve RUC officer William Clement, killed 2 years earlier in the attack on Ballygawley RUC base by the same IRA unit.. It was found that another of the guns had been used in the killing of Harold Henry...

The East Tyrone Brigade continued to be active until the last IRA ceasefire 10 years later..SAS operations against the IRA also continued.. The IRA searched to find the informer it believed to be among them, although it has been suggested that the informer, if there ever was one, had been killed in the ambush.. The RUC station was attacked again on 5 September 1990, when a van bomb caused widespread damage and wounded se7en constables..The IRA members became known as the "Loughgall Martyrs" among republicans..The men's relatives considered their killings to be part of a deliberate shoot-to-kill policy by the security forces.. Thousands of people attended their funerals; the biggest republican funerals in Northern Ireland since those of the IRA hunger strikers of 81..NI's Historical Enquiries Team found that not only did the IRA team fire first but that they could not have been safely arrested.. They concluded that the SAS were justified in opening fire..Loughgall RUC station was re-built, transferred to the PSNI in 2001, and shut in August 2009.. In April 2011 it was sold for private development..Galls or cecidia are outgrowths on the surface of lifeforms..It is worth noting that the fungus Ustilago esculenta associated with Zizania latifolia, a wild rice, produces an edible gall highly valued as a food source in the Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces of China..Dungannon has won Ulster in Bloom's Best Kept Town Award 5 times...

They chose Set, originally Upper Egypt's chief god, the god of foreigners and the god they found most similar to their own chief god, as their patron, and then Set became worshiped as the chief god once again..Set has also been classed as a Trickster deity who, as a god of disorder, resorts to deception to achieve bad ends..Nevertheless, throughout this period, in some outlying regions of Egypt Set was still regarded as the heroic chief deity..Naqada is a town on the west bank of the Nile in the Egyptian governorate of Qena..The town was the centre of the cult of Set, and large tombs were built there around c. 3500 BC...

George Macartney, 1st Earl Macartney..
Quote:
McCartney is a surname that originated in Ireland..It is not to be confused with McCarthy, which has different origins..The McCartneys are a branch of the great family of McCarthy Mor of Munster, who were Kings of Cork and Princes of Desmond..The 5th son of Cormac Fionn (d. 1248) was Donogh Cartnach who is the ancestor of the McCartneys. Donough Cartnach left 2 sons, the eldest Donal joined Edward Bruce (King of Ireland), brother of Robert the Bruce (King of Scotland).. For serving under Robert the Bruce's standard, Donal received a grant of land in Argylleshire, called 'Glen Artney' (Grid 56.22 degrees North 4.0 degrees West) from the King of Scotland..Generational offshoots (cadet family lines) of the Royal House of Desmond received their own territories and titles – known as appanages of the royal house..Cork was originally a monastic settlement founded by Saint Finbarr in the 6th century..His feast day is September 25..He went on pilgrimage to Rome with some of the monks, visiting St David in Wales on the way back...

Some of Donal's descendants later moved to Galloway and settled in Auchinleck in Kirkcudbright, Scotland. In Auchinleck in 1522 a George Macartney married Margaret McCulloch.. Their grandson, Bartholomew McCartney had one child, George Macartney b.1626. This George Macartney emigrated to Ulster from Scotland.. He is the original ancestor of many of the families of Macartney in Ulster and Ireland. He bought the property of Lissanoure in 1649 near Cloughmills Co. Antrim..Sir George Macartney, KCIE (19 January 1867 –19 May 1945), was the British consul-general in Kashgar at the end of the 19th century.. He was succeeded by Sir Clarmont Skrine.. Macartney arrived in Xinjiang in 1890 as interpreter for the Younghusband expedition.. He remained there until 1918.. Macartney first proposed the Macartney-MacDonald Line as the boundary between China and India in Aksai China..Catherine, Lady Macartney, assisted the archaeologists who found the library at Dunhuang..The Macartneys had a son called Eric..A number of Buddhist cave sites are located in the Dunhuang area, the most important of these is the Mogao Caves ...

Linda Louise McCartney, the second-eldest of 4 children, was born Linda Louise Eastman in New York City..McCartney's mother, Louise Sara (Lindner) Eastman, was from a German Jewish family.. The daughter of Max J. Lindner—founder of the Lindner Company clothing store in Cleveland, Ohio—Louise died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 1 in Queens, New York, in 1962..McCartney later said that because of her mother's death, she hated travelling by air..A number of notable people lost their lives in the crash.. It was the 6th fatal Boeing 707 crash and, at the time, the deadliest..Today, American 1 operates the same daily route from JFK to Los Angeles, but as an Airbus A321..This is contrary to the convention of retiring flight numbers that have crashed..Long Island residents described hearing explosions which shook the foundations of nearby houses, though no one on the ground is known to have witnessed the plane hitting the swamp.. However, a few men at Floyd Bennett Field saw the massive geyser of water rising above the hangars, and one guard at his post on a bridge that the plane flew over saw the plane roll over..The Civil Aeronautics Board received notification of the accident at 10:10 AM EST and immediately sent investigators to Jamaica Bay to conduct an investigation. The flight recorder was found on March 9 and sent to Washington for analysis..Public hearings were held at the International Hotel in New York on March 20–23, 1962..The Bendix Corporation issued denials, stating that the units underwent 61 inspections during manufacturing...

People & Power: Justice & Robert McCartney Pt 1 ..
Quote:
The murder of Robert McCartney (1971 – 31 January 2005) occurred in Belfast, Northern Ireland, allegedly carried out by members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army.. He was a father of two children and was engaged to be married in June 2005 to his longtime partner, Bridgeen Hagans.. He was a Roman Catholic and lived in the predominantly nationalist Short Strand area of east Belfast, and was said by his family to be a supporter of Sinn Féin..Robert McCartney was involved in an altercation in "Magennis' Bar" on May Street in Belfast's city centre on the night of 30 January 2005..What happened next was witnessed by 72 people, all of whom would later maintain they saw nothing.. He was found unconscious with stab wounds in Cromac Street by a police patrol car; he died in hospital the following morning..the killing, which occurred after republicans from the Market, Lower Ormeau and Short Strand areas of the city had returned from a Bloody Sunday commemoration.. McCartney was 33 years old...

The fight arose when his friend, Brendan Devine, was accused of making an insulting gesture or comment to a woman in the Co social club.. When Devine refused to accept this or apologise, a brawl began.. McCartney, who was attempting to defend Devine, was attacked with a broken bottle and then dragged into Verner Street, beaten with metal bars and stabbed.. Devine also suffered a knife attack, but survived.. The throats of both men had been cut and McCartney's wounds included the loss of an eye and a large blade wound running from his chest to his stomach.. Devine was hospitalised under armed protection..On 27 June 2008 Terence Davison was found not guilty of committing the murder..When Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers arrived at the scene, their efforts to investigate the pub and surrounding area were met with an impromptu riot..

Bloody Sunday: Row over memorial window at Londonderry's Guildhall..

When the police launched the murder investigation they were met with a "wall of silence"; none of the estimated seventy or so witnesses to the altercation came forward with information..This is not an unusual attitude among Irish nationalists, who have mixed views of the new police force.. In conversations with family members, seventy-one potential witnesses claimed to have been in the pub's toilets at the time of the attacks.. As the toilet measures just four feet by three feet, this led to the toilets being dubbed the TARDIS, after the time machine in the TV series Doctor Who, which is much bigger on the inside than on the outside..On 5 May 2005, Terence Davison and James McCormick were remanded in custody, charged with murdering McCartney and attempting to murder Devine respectively.. McCormick is originally from England.. They were held in the Republican wing of Maghaberry prison..

In November 2005, the McCartney sisters and Bridgeen Hagans, the former partner of Robert McCartney, refused to accept the Outstanding Achievement award at The Women of the Year Awards, because it would have meant their sharing a platform with Margaret Thatcher, a hated figure in the Irish republican community..As of 2007, the family were in contact with the family of Joseph Rafferty of Dublin, who died in similar circumstances..On 12 April 2005, Rafferty was murdered.. He was shot twice with a sawn-off shotgun, once in the leg and once in the chest, as he left his flat in Ongar, Dublin to go to work..The Internal Security Unit (ISU) was the name given to the counter-intelligence and interrogation unit of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA).. This unit was often referred to as the Nutting Squad...

Due to the worldwide proliferation of the SKS and AK-47 pattern rifles, the cartridge is used by both militaries and civilians alike.. 7.62×39mm ammunition is purportedly tested to function well in temperatures ranging from −50 °C (−58 °F) to 50 °C (122 °F) cementing its usefulness in extremely cold polar or hot desert conditions...

The 7.62×39mm cartridge was influenced by a variety of foreign developments, including the German Mkb 42(H) and the U.S. M1 carbine..Shortly after the war, the world's most recognized military pattern rifle was designed for this cartridge: the AK-47..Commercial Russian-made 7.62×39mm ammunition, such as those sold under the Wolf Ammunition brand name, are also available in Full Metal Jacket (FMJ), Soft Points (SP) and Hollow Points (HP)..The Soft Points (SP) and Hollow Points (HP) offer improved accuracy and expansion...

Sometimes the headstamp only indicates the maker of the cartridge case, or distributor of the loaded cartridge, or the using activity, not the actual "manufacturer" of a loaded cartridge...

Patriot Games Movie CLIP..

Iranian and Syrian ammunition packaging for 7.62 × 39 mm cartridges was also observed in Syria.. A single Iranian wooden crate with reasonably clear markings he crate contained 1,000 7.62×39mm cartridges, primarily for use with AK (Kalashnikov) pattern rifles.. Syrian packaging observed included card board inner packaging marked in English, common to more recent Syrian production...This packaging contained 50 lead-core 7.62×39 mm cartridges produced in 1998..Sources provided documentation of several different headstamps from 7.62×39 mm cartridges manufactured in Sudan..Sources provided evidence of Warsaw Pact-produced 7.62×39 mm cartridges..From the former USSR and the Russian Federation there was documentary evidence of ammunition from 3 manufacturers: Tula Cartridge Works (TCW)produced in 1985.. Headstamps have also been recorded from ammunition made by Volkseigener Betrieb (VEB) Mechanische Werkstätten Königswartha in East Germany (produced in 1982), from Mátravidéki Fémmûvek in Hungary (produced in 1984), and from Bishkek Machine-Building Plant (BMZ) in Kyrgyzstan (produced in 2000)..

Today Former Det Inspec Brendan McArdle of the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau, now retired, told the court how he handed over exhibits related to the murders of Sylvia Shields and Mary Callanan to a forensic scientist by the name of Mr Matthew Greenhalgh who worked in Cellmark Diagnostics, a DNA testing service based in Oxfordshire in the UK on September 18 1998..Mr Greenhalgh told the court that the DNA technique used was called "Short tandem repeat" (STR) and it has been superseded since 2000..It would be normal to return the item in the bag it came, I'm not sure why the button is not in the bag" added Mr Greenhalgh..The last witness of the day was now retired Det Sgt Alan Bailey who is currently writing a book on the Grangegorman murders..You don’t forget cases that are left unsolved, and I hadn’t forgotten this one.. It was perhaps the most satisfying conclusion to any case I had worked on”..In particular he recalls working for “10 days straight”..on the search and recovery of the remains of murder Belfast mother of 10 Jean McConville..One of the most horrific tragedies he admits was the aftermath of the Air India passenger flight which crashed into the sea off the coast of Cork in 1985, and it was actually the first time that a shark bite was ever recorded on a post mortem in Ireland..Nowadays, technology can get DNA from a speck of dandruff, that’s all it takes to be left at a scene, maybe on the inside of a baklava...

Lightbulb Maguire

Maguire coat of arms-"son of Odhar"..
Quote:
Tom Maguire (28 March 1892 – 5 July 1993) was an Irish republican who held the rank of commandant-general in the Western Command of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and led the South Mayo flying column..In May 1921, Maguire led an ambush on a Royal Irish Constabulary patrol in Tourmakeady, County Mayo, killing 4.. Maguire's flying column then made for the Partry Mountains.. One account claimed that the column were surrounded by over 700 soldiers and policemen guided by aeroplanes.. Maguire was wounded and his adjutant killed, but the column managed to escape with no further casualties.. British casualties were not revealed but were believed to have been high. Some recent research has raised the possibility that fewer than forty British soldiers were in the vicinity and that Maguire's column was forced to abandon their weapons with only one British officer wounded..Maguire was involved in numerous other engagements including the Kilfall ambush...

According to legend, the 11th in descent from Colla da Chrich,great-grandson of Cormac mac Airt, monarch of Ireland about the middle of the third century..As a given name, Maguire is uncommon..The Maguire sept is primarily associated with modern-day County Fermanagh..The Maguire clan motto is "Justia et Fortitudo Invincibilia Sunt", which is Latin for "Justice and Fortitude Are Invincible"..

Back in the day, Police force was probably 100% Protestant. Early to late 90's you had a good few Catholics in it.

when stopped by the police with the para's.
If they knew you where a prod they would be so light in dealing with you.

It's as if they gave us a free pass on some laws, if one was to get stopped for speeding or trying to beat a red light etc. I know some folks who have even escaped a possible dui charge lol, Bonkers like.

Great at the time for getting off a speeding ticket, but it hurt me alot more than a ticket because i knew the reason they were letting us off with such things. Terrible way to be but this is how it has been for years

Nowadays the force has changed name, Part time force has been cut away down and the increase of recruits from the the Catholic community is always on the up with an even balance to both religions.

The last few times i've been stopped has been by a Catholic and mostly a woman who always seems to be under 5'5 in height for some reason. I think this is a drive to make the force more approachable.

This is all good news for Joe public, but there still exists a hatred from the true uniters that hate anything British.

Lightbulb The Quarry

In Spite of All the Danger..

The Quarrymen performing in Rosebery Street..
Quote:
The IRA has apologised for killing a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Londonderry more than 30 years ago..The IRA blamed the Army for shooting Kathleen Feeney near her Brandywell home in 1973, and claimed later it killed a soldier in retaliation..The Army had said a patrol came under fire in Quarry Street, but insisted none of the soldiers opened fire..In a statement in the Derry Journal newspaper, the IRA said that one of its members shot the teenager..The IRA said it apologised unreservedly for what happened and admitted that its failure to accept responsibility for the killing added to the family's hurt and pain..The statement was issued in response to a request from the Feeney family for the IRA to publicly acknowledge that its members killed the schoolgirl.. Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams said that he welcomed this development.."The most important element in all of that is the Feeney family," he said...

A quarry is a place from which dimension stone, rock, construction aggregate, riprap, sand, gravel, or slate has been excavated from the ground.. A quarry is the same thing as an open-pit mine from which minerals are extracted.. The only trivial difference between the two is that open-pit mines that produce building materials and dimension stone are commonly referred to as quarries..The Quarrymen were a British skiffle/rock and roll group, formed by John Lennon in Liverpool in 1956, which eventually evolved into the Beatles in 1960..The Quarrymen played at parties, school dances, cinemas and amateur skiffle contests before Paul McCartney joined the band in October 1957..George Harrison joined the band in early 1958 at McCartney's recommendation, though Lennon initially resisted because he felt Harrison (still 14 when he was first introduced to Lennon) to be too young.. Both McCartney and Harrison attended the Liverpool Institute..The group made an amateur recording of themselves in 1958, performing Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day" and "In Spite of All the Danger", a song written by McCartney and Harrison..The group first rehearsed in Shotton's house on Vale Road, but because of the noise his mother told them to use the corrugated air-raid shelter in the back garden..On Saturday 6 July 1957, The Quarrymen played at St. Peter's Church Rose Queen garden fête in Woolton..During the performance there was an unexpected thunderstorm, which made the lights go out..Lennon's mother was killed in a road accident on 15 July 1958, and Lennon lost interest in the group for months...Lennon, along with fellow art students Bill Harry, Stuart Sutcliffe and Rod Murray, saw the poet Royston Ellis at Liverpool University, and later met in a Liverpool pub, Ye Cracke..While studying in Germany, Sutcliffe ( Born 23 June 1940) began experiencing severe headaches and acute sensitivity to light.. In the first days of April 1962, he collapsed in the middle of an art class after complaining of head pains.. On 10 April 1962, he was taken to hospital, but died in the ambulance on the way.. The cause of death was later revealed to have been an aneurysm in his brain's right hemisphere...

Hi Maccoy, One things for sure the IRA are still Operational by the looks of it..

Police believe Kevin McGuigan Sr's murder was in revenge for the killing of a former IRA commander..

Quote:
12 August 2015: Police say they believe members of PIRA were involved in the fatal shooting of former IRA-men Kevin McGuigan in East-Belfast.. The shooting appears to be a revenge killing for the murder of another republican veteran in Belfast 4 months earlier...

A key element on its cover is a quotation from the Magna Carta, "To no man will we sell, or deny, or delay right or justice"...
