Does it matter how much time I spend in here? I do have free time you know. It is strange that you are not the first person to say that, which makes me wonder what people actually think goes on in military circles. The period when you were in was a long time ago and much has changed.

You can't disagree with my comments on the careers of generals. You as an ex-soldier must be well aware of this.

The pen is mightier than the sword because the pen writes the words that send swords to war.

I am sorry but I have no inclination to tell you what I do. I have a job in which the capacity to think and question is very useful, where creative solutions can actually be beneficial and where capability is not just measured by brute force. There is no need for me to be brainwashed because I am not in a position where my mind has to be forced or compelled to do things that are unnatural to it, unlike many military jobs, such as canon fodder.

Do you think you learned a lot in those four years? my training was around 18 months alone so it would not leave much room for real world experience.

Lightgiver's got a point. You say you've got experience of certain things but offer nothing beyond blanket statements to back up your assertions. Why not just offer your individual opinion without these "I've been there" statements?

Surely no one here is impressed with special claims to particular forms of knowledge. We could all claim special knowledge and not back it up with anything. But few do.

You constantly try to trump or deflate the statements of others with your claims to knowledge about the way the military works, so why not let us in on what you do? Or, do as Lightgiver suggested and give him a brief clue that an ex-forces type might get without giving too much away. Or just offer start offering opinions without claims to authority, just like mostly everybody else does here...

I am not offering any special claims. Have I said aywhere that I have special knowledge or experience? I don't think so. My knowledge and experience are nothing special.

My field is electronics.

Elecctronic warfare. Wow, that sounds interesting!

Would you care to give us a description of what "electronic warfare"
involves exactly marpat?

I'm VERY green (no pun intended) when it comes to this sort of thing, but I'm always interested in learning.

MARPAT (short for MARine PATtern) is a pixelated camouflage pattern in use by the United States Marine Corps, introduced with the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU), which replaced the Camouflage Utility Uniform. The pattern is formed by a number of small rectangular pixels of color. In theory, it is a far more effective camouflage than standard uniform patterns because it mimics the dappled textures and rough boundaries found in natural settings. This is caused by how the human eye interacts with pixelated images. It is also known as the "digital pattern" or "digi-cammies" because of its micropattern (pixels) rather than the old macropattern (big blobs).

It will be fear that's preventing marpat from divulging salient information.

Hopefully he'll learn to overcome that one day, but who really cares if he doesn't..

I was a birdwatcher marpat, I'm familiar with all your little gadgets & systems. What are you being allowed to play with at the moment?
