Arrow Black Panthers

The All Black 761st Tank Battalion ..
Quote:
The 761st Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion of the United States Army during World War II.. The 761st was made up primarily of African-American soldiers, who by federal law were not permitted to serve alongside white troops; the military did not officially desegregate until after World War II.. They were known as the "Black Panthers" after their unit's distinctive insignia; their motto was "Come out fighting".. The battalion received a Presidential Unit Citation for its actions.. In addition, a large number of individual members also earned awards, including one Medal of Honor and 11 Silver Stars..The unit traveled from Northern France in October 1944, to see action in the Rhineland, in the Battle of the Bulge, and in the final months of the war on German soil..

M4A3E8 Sherman used as artillery in firing position during the Korean War..

The battalion began training in M5 Stuart light tanks.. They learned how to maneuver, mount, dismount, and maintain the vehicle's 37 mm main gun and .30 caliber machine guns.. Final training was at Fort Hood, Texas, where they were upgraded to the M4 Sherman medium tank, which had a 75 mm main gun, two .30 caliber machine guns, a .50 caliber machine gun, and a two-inch smoke mortar..The M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank, M4, was the most numerous battle tank used by the US and some of the other Western Allies in World War II.. The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce and available in great numbers.. Thousands were distributed through the Lend-Lease program to the British Commonwealth and Soviet Union.. The tank was named by the British for the American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman..He served as a General in the Union Army during the Civil War (1861–65), for which he received recognition for his outstanding command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the "scorched earth" policies that he implemented in conducting total war against the Confederate States..

Arrow Tiger I

Tiger I in northern France, March 1944..
Quote:
Tiger I was a German heavy tank of World War II deployed from 1942 in Africa and Europe usually in independent heavy tank battalions. Its final designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E often shortened to Tiger.. The Tiger I gave the Wehrmacht its first armoured fighting vehicle that mounted the KwK 36 88-mm gun (not to be confused with the 8.8 cm Flak 36).. Only 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944..Production was phased out in favour of the Tiger II..

FURY Sherman VS Tiger ..

The tank was given its nickname "Tiger" by Ferdinand Porsche, and the Roman numeral was added after the later Tiger II entered production.. The initial designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung H (‘‘Panzer VI version H’’, abbreviated PzKpfw VI Ausf. H) where 'H' denoted Henschel as the designer/manufacturer.. It was classed with ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 182..The tank was later redesignated as PzKpfw VI Ausf. E in March 1943, with ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 181...

Arrow Ant i-tank Mine

Quote:
An anti-tank mine, (abbreviated to "AT mine"), is a type of land mine designed to damage or destroy vehicles including tanks and armored fighting vehicles..Compared to anti-personnel mines, anti-tank mines typically have a much larger explosive charge, and a fuze designed only to be triggered by vehicles or, in some cases, tampering with the mine.. For example, during the U.S. Civil War, Confederate forces created pressure-activated anti-railroad mines which destroyed at least two trains..The Munroe or Neumann effect is the focusing of blast energy by a hollow or void Cut on a surface of an explosive..

VS-50 Mine..

The first anti-tank mines were improvised during the First World War as a counter measure against the first tanks introduced by the British towards the end of the war.. Initially they were nothing more than a buried high explosive shell or mortar bomb with its fuze upright..The Soviet Union began developing mines in the early 1920s, and in 1924 produced its first anti-tank mine, the EZ mine..The German Tellermine was a purpose-built anti-tank mine developed during the period between the first and second world wars..The Topfmines were a series of German circular minimum metal anti-tank blast mines that entered service with the German army in 1944, during the Second World War..The L9 Bar Mine is a large rectangular British anti-tank landmine..Off-route mines are designed to be effective when detonated next to a vehicle instead of underneath the vehicle.. They are useful in cases where the ground or surface is not suitable for burying or concealing a mine..During the Vietnam War, both 'regular' NVA and Viet Cong forces used AT mines..Conflict in southern Africa since the 60s have often involved Soviet, US or South African supported irregular armies or fighters engaged in guerrilla warfare..Explosively Formed Projectiles (EFPs) are one type of IED that was used in Iraq, but most "home made" IEDs are not employed in this manner..The VS-2.2 mine is found in Iraq and Kuwait, the SH-55 is found in Afghanistan..The Pope arrived in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, this afternoon at the start of a two-day visit to the war-torn city undeterred by the discovery of a plan to kill him..Just hours earlier Bosnian police found at least 20 anti-tank mines under a bridge on the road between the airport and the city - the route planned for the PopE and his entourage..

Warriors - Velcome to Vitez ..

The Grenade, Hand, Anti-tank, No. 75, also known as the Hawkins grenade was a British anti-tank hand grenade used during World War II..The M7 is a small, metal-cased U.S. anti-tank blast mine that was used during the Second World War.. It was based on the British Hawkins grenade..The mine has a thin olive green painted steel case, with a large hinged pressure plate..This plate transfers force onto the mine's fuze..The fuze is triggered by relatively low pressures, making the mine effective against trucks and cars..Additionally, the fuze may be sensitive enough to make it effective as an anti-personnel mine..The mine was normally deployed inside a cloth bag or sack to prevent rocks getting trapped under the hinged lid of the mine..The most common type of booby trap detonator is the M1 pull which is installed in the end fuse well.. This can be attached to a trip wire or a small stake underground for auntie-removal detonation..Weight: 2.2 kg..The MAPED F1 (France) uses a very complex electric firing system.. It is Basically actuated by a contact wire...

VI Corps Shoulder sleeve insignia..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_P._Lucas
Quote:
At the end of 1943, following the Allied invasion of Italy, Allied forces were bogged down at the Gustav Line, a defensive line across Italy south of the strategic objective of Rome..The terrain of central Italy had proved ideally suited to defense, and Field Marshal Albert Kesselring took full advantage..Operation Shingle was originally conceived by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in December 1943, as he lay recovering from pneumonia in Marrakesh.. His concept was to land two divisions at Anzio, bypassing German forces in central Italy, and take Rome, the strategic objective of the current Battle of Rome.. However, the 5th Army did not have either the divisions or the means to transport them..Clark proposed landing a reinforced division to divert German troops from Monte Cassino..This second landing, however, instead of failing similarly, would hold "the shingle" for a week in expectation of a breakthrough at Cassino and so the operation was named Shingle..The Anzio beachhead is located at the northwestern end of a tract of reclaimed marshland, formerly the Pontine Marshes, now the Pontine Fields (Agro Pontino)..Previously uninhabited and inhabitable due to mosquitoes carrying malaria, Roman armies marshed as quickly as possible across it on the military road, the Via Appia..The marsh was bounded on one side by the sea and on others by mountains..The marshes were turned into cultivatable land in the 1930s under the command of the dictator, Benito Mussolini..When Lucian Truscott's 3rd Division (nicknamed the "Marne Division") was first selected for the operation, he pointed out to Clark that the position was a death trap and there would be no survivors.. Agreeing, Clark canceled the operation, but Churchill revived it..It was hoped that this threat would draw Germany's forces away from the Cassino area and facilitate an Allied breakthrough there.. No one saw the point of taking the Alban Hills, nor was Churchill's idea of a flanking movement expressed..Neither Clark nor Lucas had full confidence in either their superiors or the operational plan..Along with most of the Fifth Army staff they felt that Shingle was properly a two corps or even a full army task.."The operation has a strong odour of Gallipoli and apparently the same amateur was still on the coach's bench"..One of the problems with the plan was the availability of landing ships..

Sherman tanks of the 46th Royal Tank Regiment provide fire support..

For the 1st Battalion, Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) at Anzio, Italy, 25 January 1944..

The landings began on January 22, 1944..By midnight, 36,000 soldiers and 3,200 vehicles had landed on the beaches..13 Allied troops were killed, and 97 wounded; about 200 Germans had been taken as POWs.. The 1st Division penetrated 2 miles (3 km) inland, the Rangers captured Anzio's port, the 509th PIB captured Nettuno, and the 3rd Division penetrated 3 miles (5 km) inland..The point of the landing was to turn the German defences on the Winter Line, taking advantage of their exposed rear and hopefully panicking them into retreating northwards past Rome.. However, Lucas instead poured more men and material into his tiny bridge[head, and strengthened his defences..Churchill was clearly displeased with this action.. He said: "I had hoped we were hurling a wildcat into the shore, but all we got was a stranded whale"..

The Battle of Anzio - The Italian D-DAY ..

Kesselring was informed of the landings at 03:00 on January 22..Although the landings came as a surprise, Kesselring had made contingency plans to deal with possible landings at all the likely locations.. All the plans relied on his divisions each having previously organised a motorized rapid reaction unit (Kampfgruppe) which could move speedily to meet the threat and buy time for the rest of the defenses to get in place..At 05:00 he initiated Operation "Richard" and ordered the Kampfgruppe of 4th Parachute Division and the Hermann Göring Panzer Division to defend the roads leading from Anzio to the Alban Hills via Campoleone and Cisterna whilst his plans expected some 20,000 defending troops to have arrived by the end of the first day.. In addition, he requested that OKW send reinforcements, and in response to this they ordered the equivalent of more than 3 divisions from France, Yugoslavia, and Germany whilst at the same time releasing to Kesselring a further 3 divisions in Italy which had been under OKW's direct command..The German units in the immediate vicinity had in fact been dispatched to reinforce the Gustav Line only a few days earlier..All available reserves from the southern front or on their way to it were rushed toward Anzio and Nettuno; these included the 3rd Panzer Grenadier and 71st Infantry Divisions, and the bulk of the Luftwaffe's Hermann Göring Panzer Division.. Kesselring initially considered that a successful defence could not be made if the Allies launched a major attack on January 23 or January 24, however, the Germans had over 40,000 troops in prepared defensive positions..3 days after the landings, the beachhead was surrounded by a defence line consisting of 3 divisions: The 4th Parachute Division to the west, the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division to the center in front of Alban Hills, the Hermann Göring Panzer Division to the east..

The Alban Hills (Colli Albani) are the site of a quiescent volcanic complex in Italy, located 20 km (12 mi) southeast of Rome and about 24 kilometres (15 mi) north of Anzio and provides a mineral-rich substrate for vineyards..The area was inhabited by the Latini during the 5th to 3rd centuries BC.. The ancient Romans called them Albanus Mons..On the summit was the sanctuary of Jupiter Latiaris, in which the consuls celebrated the Feriae Latinae, and several generals celebrated victories here when they were not accorded regular triumphs in Rome.. The temple has not survived, but the Via Triumphalis leading up to it may still be seen..The towns and villages in the Alban Hills are known as the Castelli Romani...

Further troop movements including the arrival of U.S. 45th Infantry Division and U.S. 1st Armored Division, brought Allied forces total on the beachhead to 69,000 men, 508 guns and 208 tanks by January 29, whilst the total defending Germans had risen to 71,500..Lucas initiated a 2-pronged attack on January 30.. While one force was to cut Highway 7 at Cisterna before moving east into the Alban Hills, a second was to advance northeast up the Via Anziate towards Campoleone..By early February German forces in Fourteenth Army numbered some 100,000 troops organised into two Army Corps, the 1st Parachute Corps under Schlemm and the LXXVI Panzer Corps under Lieutenant General Traugott Herr.. Allied forces by this time totalled 76,400 (including the recently arrived British 56th Infantry Division, under Major-General Gerald Templer, which arrived complete on February 16)..After making exploratory probes on the Campoleone salient on the afternoon of February 3 the German forces launched a full counterattack at 23:00 in order to reduce the salient and "iron out" the front line..On February 16 the Germans launched a new offensive (Operation Fischfang) down the line of the Via Anziate, supported by Tiger tankhs.. They overran the 167th Brigade, of the recently arrived 56th (London) Division, and virtually destroyed X Company of the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, which was reduced from around 125 down to a single officer and 10 other ranks and Y Company was down to one officer and 10 men.. One of the men killed was Second Lieutenant Eric Waters, whose son Roger Waters created a song (When the Tigers Broke Free) in memory of his father and describes his death..

You Only Live Twice Special ..

007 James Bond - Whicker's World 1967..

Eric Fletcher Waters, fusilier serving with Company Z, 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) of 167th Infantry Brigade, 56th Infantry Division, and "the generals gave thanks / As the other ranks / Held back the enemy tanks for a while" and "the Anzio bridgehead was held for the price / Of a few hundred ordinary lives" as the Tigers eventually broke through the British defence, killing all of Company Z.. Denis Healey — later a Labour Party Defence Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer — was the Military Landing Officer for the British assault brigade at Anzio..There is a story that a war orphan named "Angelita" became a platoon mascot but was killed just a few days later..Pte. Christopher S. Hayes of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, serving in 17th Brigade of British 5th Infantry Division, claimed to have found her and 20 years later, he asked for information from the mayor of Anzio..BBC reporter Alan Whicker was at Anzio..

When the Tigers Broke Free - Length 3:17..

Churchill had continued to bridle at Lucas' perceived passivity.. He had written on February 10 to General Alexander encouraging him to exert his authority and Alexander had visited the beachhead on February 14 to tell Lucas he wished for a breakout as soon as the tactical situation allowed..On February 16 at a high level conference hosted by Alexander and attended by Clark and Wilson, commander AFHQ it was decided to appoint two deputies under Lucas, Lucian Truscott and the British Major-General Vyvyan Evelegh..Both sides had realised that no decisive result could be achieved until the spring and reverted to a defensive posture involving aggressive patrolling and artillery duels whilst they worked to rebuild their fighting capabilities..In March, the 2nd Italian SS "Vendetta" Battalion and 29th Italian SS Rifle Battalion were sent to fight against the Anglo-American forces at the Anzio beachhead..The next few weeks saw many changes in divisions on both sides..7th Ox & Bucks of 167th (London) Brigade - had been reduced from 1,000), by British 5th Infantry Division..At 05:45 on 23 May 1944, 1,500 Allied artillery pieces commenced bombardment..Although VI Corps had suffered over 3,300 casualties in the 3 days fighting, Operation Buffalo was going to plan, and Truscott was confident that a concerted attack by 1st Armored and 3rd Infantry Divisions the next day would get his troops astride Route 6..On the evening of 25 May Truscott received new orders from Clark via his Operations Officer, Brigadier General Don Brand.. These were, in effect, to implement Op Turtle leaving 3rd Division to continue towards Valmontone with 1st Special Service Force in support..

On 2 June the Caesar Line collapsed under the mounting pressure, and 14th Army commenced a fighting withdrawal through Rome..When the Caesar C Line defences, manned by the German 14th Army, were breached by the U.S. Fifth Army on 30 May 1944, following the breakout from Anzio, the road to Rome was finally opened.. The Germans retreated to their next line of defence, the Trasimene Line where the 14th Army re-aligned with the German 10th Army before withdrawing to the formidable defences of the Gothic Line..Volume 5 of Churchill's The Second World War is riddled with implied criticism of Lucas, blaming the failure of Operation Shingle on his caution..Furthermore,General Alexander in his Official Despatch was to say "the actual course of events was probably the most advantageous in the end..What is clear is that because of Clark's change of plan, Operation Diadem (during which the U.S. Fifth and British Eighth Armies sustained 44,000 casualties) failed in its objective of destroying German 10th Army and condemned the Allies to a further year of brutal combat, notably around the Gothic Line from August 1944 to May 1945..Major General John P. Lucas is reported to have once visited the set of one of Murphy's films and, while he greeted actors and crew, was forced to salute Murphy who had the Medal of Honor and Lucas did not - and then had his handshake refused by Murphy, who instead returned the salute and then simply walked away..Murphy later commented that "...too damn many good men died at Anzio and Nettuno because of that son of a bitch..I'm damned if I'll shake hands with him...

21 Engineer Regiment RE is a regiment of the British Army's Royal Engineers.. It is based at Claro Barracks, Ripon, Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire..The siting of the garrison was first recommended by Robert Baden-Powell who founded the Scouting movement in 1908 whilst he, as Inspector-General of Cavalry, was based at the army barracks, at that time located in Richmond Castle..On 12 August 1914, the order was issued for the construction of the camp, following the outbreak of the Great War..After serving as a prisoner of war camp at the end of the Great War, the idea to make Catterick a impermanent military barracks was first suggested after the partitioning of Ireland in 1921, the required land was purchased and building plans were put forward in 1923 - Construction was undertaken by John Laing & Son and by the mid-1930s most of the camp's facilities were complete.. During the Second World War the camp was once again used to house POW..Catterick Garrison was once home to one Yorkshire's largest cinemas, the "Ritz Cinema" was opened on 21 December 1940 and had over 1000 seats..Duchess of Kent Hospital is the local military hospital & medical centre that was opened on 6 October 1976..Lacking a true "town centre," the Garrison gained its first large supermarket, a Tesco store, in 2000; along with a retail park known as "Richmondshire Walk", which also includes a McDonald's, a Poundstretcher and a Peacocks...The three garrison churches are dedicated to St. Joan of Arc, St Aidan, and the Garrison Memorial Church of St Martin & St Oswald..St John's Churchyard, which now contains the war graves of 64 Commonwealth service personnel of the First World War and 2 of the Second World War..That's all I can remember, mum, but if I think of any more, I will let you know...

221 Challenger tanks were deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Granby, the UK operation in the Persian Gulf War..In the original deployment, the 7th Armoured Brigade included two armoured regiments, the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars & Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, both equipped with 57 of the latest Mark 3 version of the Challenger 1..

Margaret Thatcher announces she will not contest the second ballot of the leadership election for the Conservative Party (UK) - Jang Dong-woo, aka Dongwoo is the main rapper of South Korean boy band Infinite & Infinite H - On 22 November 1990, it was decided to add the 4th Mechanized Brigade to the force, under the umbrella of 1st (UK) Armoured Division.. The new brigade had a single Challenger regiment, 14th/20th King's Hussars, equipped with 43 Challenger 1 tanks and reinforced by a squadron of the Life Guards.. They were equipped with the Mark 2 version of the tank, which was upgraded by armouring the storage bins for the 120 mm charges as well as the additional Chobham Armour fitted to the Mark 3's..The main threat to the Challenger was deemed to be the Iraqi Republican Guard's T-72M tanks; each British tank was provided with twelve L26A1 "Jericho" depleted uranium (DU) shells specifically for use against T-72Ms, but during the course of the Coalition's ground campaign none was encountered as the division was withdrawn beforehand..On 26 February 1991, a Challenger achieved the longest range confirmed kill of the war, destroying an Iraqi tank with an armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot round fired over a distance of 4,700 metres (2.9 mi)—the longest tankh-on-tank kill shot recorded...

Arrow Battle of 73 Easting

Quote:
During the period of 23 February 1991 the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, with its attached, operational control, attacked into Southern Iraq in the lead of VII Corps with such audacity that the Dragoon Battle Group quickly overwhelmed superior enemy forces, demoralizing them and taking hundreds of enemy prisoners..As part of the First Infantry Division (Mechanized) and VII Corps main effort, Task Force 3-37th Armor breached the Iraqi defense on 24 February 1991, clearing four passage lanes and expanding the gap under direct enemy fire..2d ACR began the 26th of February on the VII Corps Objective SMASH still oriented to the northeast.. By 3 p.m. Third Armored Division had reached the 50 Easting and begun to move abreast of the Regiment to the north - Third Squadron, operating in the center, destroyed a T-72 tank before 8 a.m., establishing the first ground contact with the Iraqi Republican Guard's Tawakalna Division.. All three squadrons were in contact with security forces by 9 a.m. but a violent sandstorm blew into the area and movement to the Regiment's limit of advance, the 60 Easting, took until 11 a.m..By 3 p.m. Third Armored Division had reached the 50 Easting and begun to move abreast of the Regiment to the north..Colonel Holder issued a Fragmentary Order at 3:20 to comply with the Corps Commander's directive and by 3:45 Second Squadron's E and G Troops were in contact with well-organized defenses of the Tawakalna Division..Fourth Squadron's air scouts rejoined the operation as the weather cleared around 3 p.m..

M1 Abrams Battle of 73 Easting, Gulf War 1991..

Tantalum is a chemical element with symbol Ta and atomic number 73..

The Battle of 73 Easting refers narrowly to the violent armored combat action that took place in the final hours of 2nd ACR's covering force operation in the zone of Second Squadron and in the northern third of the Third Squadron zone.. In the battle, four of the 2nd ACR's armored cavalry troops, Troops E, G, and I with Troop K contributing to I Troop's fight..Three kilometers to the east McMaster could see T-72s in prepared positions..After defeating that force, McMaster sent a scout platoon of two Bradleys north to regain contact with Troop G..During the fierce six-hour battle, the G Troop fire support team called in 720 howitzer and MLRS rounds while using its own mortars continually to turn back attackers at close range..G Troop lost one M3 Bradley to Iraqi IFV fire and one soldier, Sergeant Nels A. Moller, the gunner of the Bradley, was killed..Artillery fire & air strikes played a large role in the battle, especially in the far north..On 26 February the U.S. 3rd Armored Division faced the highly touted Republican Guard "Tawakalna" Division..By 22:30, the battle at 2nd ACR's front, at 74 Easting, was ending with most of the engaged Iraqi elements burning or destroyed as the 1st Infantry Division began its forward passage of lines..The Battle of 73 Easting and the movement to contact south of the battle brought the Regiment's covering force mission for VII Corps to its conclusion.. During the operation the Regiment covered the advance of three different U.S. divisions in turn..The violent battle at 73 Easting fixed the southern forces of the Iraqi Republican Guard Corps and permitted the Corps Commander to launch First Infantry Division into the depths of the Iraqi defenses and on into Kuwait..

Tantalum was derived from the mythological Tantalus, the father of Niobe..

Niobe's father is referred to as "Phrygian" and sometimes even as "King of Phrygia..

Gulf War (229 of 374)-Desert Storm..

Broadcast (New Zealand): 12th February 1991..

The Battle of Cannae was a Major battle of the Second Punic War that took place on 2 August 216 BC in Apulia, in southeast Italy.. The army of Carthage, under Hannibal, surrounded and decisively defeated a larger army of the Roman Republic under the consuls Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Gaius Terentius Varro.. It is regarded both as one of the greatest tactical feats in military history and as one of the worst defeats in Roman history..Reportedly, a Carthaginian officer named Gisgo commented on how much larger the Roman army was..As Livy described, "So many thousands of Romans were dying... Some, whom their wounds, pinched by the morning cold, had roused, as they were rising up, covered with blood, from the midst of the heaps of slain, were overpowered by the enemy..Some were found with their heads plunged into the earth, which they had excavated; having thus, as it appeared, made pits for themselves, and having suffocated themselves"..Cowley claims that nearly 6 hundred legionaries were slaughtered each minute until darkness brought an end to the bloodletting..Only 14,000 Roman troops managed to escape, most of whom had cut their way through to the nearby town of Canusium, is a town and comune in Apulia in southern Italy, between Bari and Foggia, located in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani and is the burial place of Bohemund I of Antioch..A Roman force of 25,000 led by Lucius Postumius Albinus is ambushed by Gauls near Litana and almost completely wiped out..William was Robert’s only child..He was only 7 years of age when his father died..His mother, Mary Doyle, later remarried Jacob Troxel..They were stationed at Camp Dupont - Military History Teacher Capt Troxel..

Initial deployment and Roman attack (in red)..

Figures for troops involved in ancient battles are often unreliable, and Cannae is no exception..They should be treated with caution, especially those for the Carthaginian side..The Carthaginian army was a combination of warriors from numerous regions, and may have numbered between 40,000-50,000.. Along with the core of an estimated 8,000 Libyans, there were 8,000 Iberians, 16,000 Gauls (8,000 were left at camp the day of battle) and around 5,500 Gaetulian infantry.. Hannibal's cavalry also came from diverse backgrounds..The uniting factor for the Carthaginian army was the personal tie each group had with Hannibal..The Roman forces totaled approximately 79,000 troops: 63,000 infantrye and 6,000 cavalry, and in the two fortified camps another 2,600 heavily armed men and 7,400 lightly armed men..The conventional deployment for armies of the time was placement of infantry in the center, with the cavalry in two flanking wings..The Romans followed this convention fairly closely, but chose extra depth rather than breadth for the infantry in hopes of breaking quickly through the center of Hannibal's line..Since 216 = the smallest cube that is also the sum of 3 cubes + As 6 cubed (6*6*6), 216 is also symbolic of the Mark of the Beast in Christianity -The Roman historian Quintus Fabius Pictor is sent to Delphi in Greece to consult the Oracle for advice about what Rome should do after its defeat in the Battle of Cannae..As the memory of the shock of Hannibal's Victories grew dimmer, the Roman populace gradually started to question the wisdom of the Fabian strategy..

Tracking Hannibal (2001) HD..

Livy, on the Roman Senate's reaction to the defeat:22.54..For a brief period, the Romans were in complete disarray..Their best armies in the peninsula were destroyed, the few remnants severely demoralized, and the only remaining consul (Varro) completely discredited..As the story goes, Rome declared a national day of mourning as there was not a single person who was not either related to or acquainted with a person who had died..The Romans became so desperate that they resorted to human sacrifice, twice burying people alive at the 4rum of Rome and abandoning an ovarized baby in the Adriatic Sea (perhaps one of the last instances of human sacrifices by the Romans, apart from public executions of defeated enemies dedicated to Mars)..Lucius Caecilius Metellus, a military tribune, despaired so much of the RO-man cause as to suggest that everything was lost, and called the other tribunes to sail overseas and hire themselves into the service of some foreign Prince..The Carthaginian fleet ravages the territory of The Kingdom of Syracuse - The Basilica di San Pietro was the first cathedral of the Christian era, then transformed into a tomb of Saint Sabino (556), patron of Canosa..The Roman temple of Jupiter Taurus peripteral with 6 columns on the short sides hand 10 on the long sides, and a brick staircase, took its name from a statue of Zeus found at the excavation in 1978..A revolt of the Egyptian peasants is put down by Ptolemy IV..that delivers liquid substances directly into a Vein + 216 is the numerical value of Gevurah, the 5th sephirot in the kabbalistic tree of life, and the sum of the letters in God's 72 hidden names + The Bayon temple in Cambodia has 216 gigantic smiling faces Bob.. A new international pay-per-call phone number scam has been identified from (+216) Tunisia = 6.45 The Changing X-perience of Women...

On this day During the First World War, walking Sticks were OfTen carried by officers..Such sticks came to have a new and more important use with the introduction of tanks, which often became 'bogged' on battlefields, particularly in Flanders..Officers of the Tankh Corps used these sticks to probe the ground in front of their tanks testing for firmness as they went forward..The wearing of black overalls is a custom reserved to the Regiment by Material Regulations for the Army, volume 3, Pamphlet No 4 (Code 13251)..It stems from the Royal Review held at Aldershot in the presence of King George V on 13 July 1935 on which occasion black overalls worn on parade by all ranks of the Royal Tanks Corps..The regiment is equipped with Challenger 2 tanks and based at Tidworth and slated to be part of the Reaction Force, coming under 1st Armored Infantrye BriGade..Unlike the other Type 56 Challenger 2 ReGiments, the RTR has an integrated CBRN reconnaissance squadron operating the Fuchs reconnaissance vehicle..Following amalgamation, The Regiment comprises 6 squadrons..Hundreds of Iraqi civilians have been killed hand wounded in Baghdad by American bombers..The final death toll was 314 including 130 children..
