"Peace" (old jazz standard by pianist Horace Silver. Originally an instrumental, I think he wrote the lyrics in the late 60s)

There's a place that I know where the sycamores grow
And daffodils have their fun
Where the cares of the day seems to slowly fade away
And the glow of the evening sun
Peace when the day is done

If I go there real late, let my mind meditate on everything to be done
If I search deep inside, let my conscience be my guide
Then the answers are sure to come
Don't have to worry none

When you find a peace of mind
Leave you worries behind
Don't say that it can't be done
With a new point of view
Life's true meaning comes to you
And the freedom you seek is one
Peace is for everyone
Peace is for everyone
Peace is for everyone

Long-time bandmates with Prince, this is from 1990.

We are hearing talk of better days
We are watching nothing make a change
So silent, past a break
Never noticed we were what's at stake

[Chorus]
The promise of Eden hides our fears
But while we're here, why wait for heaven?
Ideally we could be free, why wait for heaven?

Your arms never have embraced us
Are you lying every time you face us?
Your power is shapeless
Our power has a million faces

[Chorus x 2]
I'm counting all the time, waiting in line
When will be my turn? I wonder what it's worth
Between the stones and birds, I'm wasting a lifetime

[Chorus]
We hide our fears, but while we're here, why wait for heaven?
Why wait for heaven?

Hi, Good songs here - anyone know of a good song for a 12 year old soprano to sing at school?
I just find it hard to find a suitable song these days.
It's either depressing songs - or ones about relationships that are way too old in content for her to sing.
She likes rock music but has a soprano range so sings anything.
She can sing whatever she wants and has a singing tutor at the school now.
Would be cool to wake kids up - or calm them down for a change - rather than fill their heads with the rubbish that
the mainstream music industry sends out to them.

Hi there... on the rock side of things, a few other posters are more able to suggest tunes than me... but how about this one? Funnily enough, the first words are 'Hush now, child..".

'Wake Up Everybody' by Harold Melvin (covered by John Legend)

Read All About It by Emeli Sande is a good modern one. The lyrics are great, and it may well be suit your daughter's voice. https://genius.com/Emeli-sande-read-...art-iii-lyrics

Verse 1]
You've got the words to change a nation
But you're biting your tongue
You've spent a lifetime stuck in silence
Afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it
How we gonna learn your song?
So come on, come on
Come on, come on
You've got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we're a little different
There's no need to be ashamed
You've got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away
Come on, come on

[Chorus]
I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid
They can read all about it, read all about it

[Verse 2]
At night we're waking up the neighbors
While we sing away the blues
Making sure that we're remembered
Yeah, cause we all matter too
If the truth has been forbidden
Then we're breaking all the rules
So come on, come on
Come on, come on
Let's get the TV and the radio
To play our tune again
It's 'bout time we got some airplay
Of our version of events
There's no need to be afraid
I will sing with you my friend

[Chorus]

[Bridge x2]
Yeah we're all wonderful, wonderful people
So when did we all get so fearful?
Now we're finally finding our voices
So take a chance, come help me sing this

[Chorus]

Ooh those two are great. Thanks I'll get her to try them both tonight.

'Move on Up' should get them dancing in their chairs lol ...
Emile Sande is within her lower range but it's worth trying that one for the lyrics.
Cheers

"Some unforgettably too petrified to vivify and live a full till they die so
Don't be quiet , watch your diet
Study everything around you and then apply it
If you have an idea try it
If you don't wanna be bought, don't buy it 'cos it's a lie
See we, the greatest power in the world curled up like a fetus with a defeatist attitude
Agreed to mistreat us and they will beat us until they eat us or until they no longer need us..."

The Real Thing are known for You To Me Are Everything and Can't Get By Without You, two great tunes. But there was a socially conscious side to their work that their record label largely suppressed. (What else is new!?)

There's a good Guardian article from 2011 on the song: 'The Real Thing: soundtrack to the Toxteth riots'. Captcha wouldn't let me post it here.

I don't know any artist who's more awake than contemporary reggae artist
Jah9. And she's not only "one of us" - her music is real good as well.

I don't know how to post videos here, and I'm not going to waste my time trying to find out either. Just click on the links and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

Only sound here, but I LOVE that lyric.

She's quite easy on the eyes as well.

But she's not incapable of just writing "fun" songs.
