Hats off to the Funk Brothers. Arguably the most successful band ever. Heard on more No. 1 records than those by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones – combined. The band of unsung musicians that played on nearly all of the Motown records.

Fever In The Funk House - James Jamerson & The Funk Brothers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T1Xi8vyaDk

Some random Motown nuggets. First a couple of tracks from one of their best female vocalists in my opinion.

Tear It On Down - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPt7BN7ZuJk

Come & Get These Memories - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJS_Oey8PqU

An example from 1959 of how Doo Wop morphed into the Soul/R&B Motown sound.

Come To Me - Marv Johnson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u01a0_yDZxE

Lastly a rare track, unreleased at the time, featuring Rick James and none other than Neil Young on guitar, from 1965.

It’s My Time - The Mynah Birds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQTE8hKvaaI

Goosebumps
Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Knight & the Pips. I saw them live in 1977.

The singer in the middle always reminds me of my brother.
