Fear is from the dutch 'gevaar' meaning danger, which connects with the dutch word 'vuur' meaning fire. Subliminally communicating that we should be afraid of the fire (hell).

The phrase 'fear of god' tells you everything you need to know about the fear-based institution of christianity, and has been in use since 1880, mostly referring to the conversion of the indigenous people of conquered lands : "Thus then we seek to put "the fear of God" into
the natives at the point of the bayonet, and
excuse ourselves for the bloody work on the plea
of the benefits which we intend to confer
afterwards. [Felix Adler, "The Religion of Duty,"
1905]

Our reptilian brain goes : Fright! Fight! Flight!

A Fight for your life, the struggle to survive, the survival of the fightest.
