Rabid Bobcats Attack In Orangeburg

Written by Andy Burns

Two people were attacked in separate bobcat attacks in Branchville. Authorities say the first attack happened when a man was doing yard work. The bobcat knocked him down and gave him cuts and bites to the head that required 16 stitches. The cat was eventually fended off by the victim's wife, who came at the bobcat with a broom.

A few hours later, officials reported a second attack. With the help of friends, he killed the animal. DHEC says the cat tested positive for rabies. It is the first positive test on an animal in Orangeburg County this year, the 57th so far in the state.
