I went to St Ambrose College when Alan Morris was teaching and can assure the Manchester evening news is was nowhere near being a "top boys school". The teaching was excellent if you were in the top stream, absolutely diabolical in the bottom stream. The fabric of the school was deplorable with naked electrical wiring poking out of holes in the walls, dangerous stairs and a smell of damp in the portakabins.

The place was based on violence. Violence from the staff to the poor sods who attended and violence between the boys. There were the usual fights, but also darts thrown at peoples, physical assaults and brutal teachers. All par for the course for the laughingly called 'christian brothers' so my challenge is to the governors at the time. Just what the HELL do you think you were doing?
