Yes, they are initiatory spirits of shamans/medicine people and are met mostly in the dream world and in shamanic states of consciousness. In Nepal a small yeti called a ban jhankri kidnaps the shaman as a child and teaches them. The word for one type of yeti in Tibet means 'self generated shaman'. There are also 'sasquatch shamans' in north america although this is rarely spoken of.
