Commando on a toggle rope bridge..
Quote:
The Commando Memorial dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during Second World War, is located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) north-west of Spean Bridge, at the junction of the A82 and the B8004.. It overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle...The Clan Cameron Museum is located in a cottage on the castle's grounds.. Displays include the clan's legends, chiefs, slogans, history, clan lands in Lochaber, and notable clansmen..Other exhibits include the castle and estate's history, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, and Prince Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie"...

The Commando Memorial...

A toggle rope was part of the standard equipment of British commandos and the Parachute Regiment during World War II.. It was 6 feet (1.8 m) long, and had a toggle at one end in a tightly fitting eye splice, with a larger eye at the other end.. This enabled them to be fastened together to create an ersatz rope ladder, or to secure around a bundle for hauling, among other uses...

The Good The Bad and The Ugly bridge scene..

The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders regiment was formed at the height of the French Revolutionary Wars..In 1808 the 79th Foot moved to Portugal, moving to Spain in the following year and participating in several major battles of the Peninsular War..The regiment's lineage is now continued by the 4th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland..Achnacarry Castle is the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan Cameron, located at Achnacarry, about 15 mi (24 km) northeast of Fort William, Scotland near the foot of Loch Arkaig..The original castle was built around 1655 and destroyed after the Battle of Culloden in 1746; a new house in Scottish baronial style was built nearby in 1802..Sir Ewen Cameron wanted a "more convenient" house, which was further removed from the Clan Mackintosh, Clan Campbell and Oliver Cromwell's garrison at Inverlochy Castle..On May 28, 1746, Donald watched as men from Bligh's Regiment under the command of Lt-Col Edward Cornwallis and an Independent Company of Munros, commanded by George Munro, 1st of Culcairn, burned Achnacarry to the ground.. Many valued relics and personal possessions were relocated beforehand, but the great fir-planked "Old" Achnacarry was left in ashes..

Lochaber is one of the 16 ward management areas of the Highland Council of Scotland and one of eight former local government districts of the two-tier Highland region..The Ross, Skye and Lochaber area consists of six out of the 22 wards of the council area..According to legend a glaistig, an evil woman-goat hybrid, once lived in the area..The name is evidently cognate with the Manx "glashtin", and is similar to the "sacbaun" of Galloway..She is also known as "Green Jean"..Some stories have her luring men to her lair via either song or dance, where she would then drink their blood.. Other such tales have her casting stones in the path of travellers or throwing them off course..She might either be benign, watching over houses and looking after the weak mind, or appear as a vengeful ghost.. In some tales she was murdered in a green dress, and then stuffed unceremoniously up the chimney by a servant..It is said that her footsteps can still be heard as she walks the castle in sadness...
