The notion that Jack the Ripper might not in fact be a man at all, but rather a woman, was one postulated by Inspector Abberline himself at the time of the killings. According to Donald McCormick, author of The Identity of Jack the Ripper published in 1959, Abberline raised the theory in a conversation with his mentor, Dr. Thomas Dutton after the Murder Time of death for Mary Kelly was Estimated to be between 3:30 and 4:00 A.M. on the morning of Friday, November 9th 1888..
An apron is an outer protective garment that covers primarily the front of the body. It may be worn for hygienic reasons as well as in order to protect clothes from wear and tear, or else due to a symbolic meaning.. The apron is commonly part of the uniform of several work categories, including waitresses, nurses, and domestic workers. Many homemakers also wear them.. It is also worn as a decorative garment by women.. Aprons are also worn in many commercial establishments to protect workers clothes from damage, mainly bib aprons, but also others such as blacksmith or farrier aprons..The word apron is from the metanalysis of the term "a napron" to "an apron". The original spelling of napron has been lost (from the Old French naperon; Modern French napperon)..
Florence Nightingale, OM, RRC (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) was a celebrated English social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. .She came to prominence while serving as a nurse during the Crimean War, where she tended to wounded soldiers.. She was known as "The Lady with the Lamp" after her habit of making rounds at night..The Crimean War was notorious for the military and logistical immaturity of the British army. However, it highlighted the work of women who served as army nurses. War correspondents for newspapers reported the scandalous treatment of wounded soldiers in the desperate winter that followed and prompted the work of Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole, Frances Margaret Taylor and others and led to the introduction of modern nursing methods..Nightingale still believed that the death rates were due to poor nutrition, lack of supplies and overworking of the soldiers. After she returned to Britain and began collecting evidence before the Royal Commission on the Health of the Army, she came to believe that most of the soldiers at the hospital were killed by poor living conditions..In 1883, Nightingale was awarded the Royal Red Cross by Queen Victoria.. In 1904, she was appointed a Lady of Grace of the Order of St John (LGStJ).. In 1907, she became the first woman to be awarded the Order of Merit. In the following year she was given the Honorary Freedom of the City of London..On 13 August 1910, at the age of 90 in her room at 10 South Street, Mayfair, London..The first official nurses' training progromme, the Nightingale School for Nurses, opened in 1860..4 hospitals in Istanbul are named after Nightin-Gale..The length of The Mall from where it joins Constitution Hill at the Victoria Memorial end to Admiralty Arch is exactly 0.5 nautical miles (0.93 km; 0.58 mi)..On VE Day – 8 May 1945 – the Palace was the centre of British celebrations, with the King, Queen and Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret appearing on the balcony, with the Palace's blacked-out windows behind them, to the cheers from a vast crowd on The Mall.."When I am no longer even a memory, just a name, I hope My voice may perpetuate the great work of my life. God bless my dear old comrades of Balaclava and bring them safe to shore. Florence Nightingale."..This type of headgear was known in the 19th century as an Uhlan cap or a Templar cap...! in that house of misery - A lady with a lamp I see - Pass through the glimmering gloom - And flit From room to room..You can haunt me all you want, but it's gonna be lovely purple wallpaper, and great big green carpets, and a little dog, called Carrigan' A- Bitch, just like you!
