His wife, Virginia, was a slender, gentle woman blessed—or cursed—with second sight. She had accurately predicted numerous accidents and local events over the years. She was careful not to seek attention and only her friends knew of her remarkable abilities.

Woodrow Derenberger was living in bedlam. A group of local UFO enthusiasts representing the Washington-based National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), largely a lobby urging congressional UFO investigations, visited or phoned him daily, raising his ire by ordering him not to talk to anyone else about his experiences.

Across the Ohio River, almost directly opposite the TNT area, a music teacher, Mrs. Roy Grose, was wakened by the barking of her dog at 4:45 A.M. on the morning of November 17, 1966. It was unusual for her little pet to bark late at night, so she got up to investigate. The moon was out and was very bright, she recalled. She looked out the kitchen window and saw an enormous object hovering at treetop level in a field on the other side of Route 7. It was circular, the size of a small house, and brilliantly illuminated.

At 7:45 P.M. the Edward Christiansen family, seven people, were driving southward along the Garden State Parkway, just north of Mayville, when a bright red, green, and white object plummeted from the sky and disappeared directly in front of them. They thought an airplane had crashed until they were parallel to Burleigh, New Jersey. Then they saw a large glowing sphere just above the treetops a few miles to the front and right...Something extraordinary seems to have happened that night. Instead of simply filing a report through normal channels, the officer at the Palmero base may have called Wright-Patterson in Ohio immediately. Officers from project Blue Book then called the Christiansens for additional details. However, it is puzzling that “three or four different officers” would participate in the questioning. Incidentally, these witnesses are above average in income and intelligence and their overall reliability is unquestioned.

During the next few days, other people reported similar sightings. Two volunteer firemen who sighted it said it was a "large bird with red eyes". Mason County Sheriff George Johnson commented that he believed the sightings were due to an unusually large heron he termed a "shitepoke". Contractor Newell Partridge told Johnson that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field its eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors", and blamed buzzing noises from his television set and the disappearance of his German Shepherd dog on the creature. Wildlife biologist Dr. Robert L. Smith at West Virginia University told reporters that descriptions and sightings all fit the Sandhill Crane, a large American crane almost as high as a man with a seven foot wingspan featuring circles of reddish coloring around the eyes, and that the bird may have wandered out of its migration route.
Nice work LG

I have heard the Sandhill Crane story before, yet many eyewitnesses state that the Mothman was between 6-8ft tall and humanoid.

After the sightings became more widespread MIB's would interview and intimidate witnesses. These witnesses stated that the MIB's never blinked and 'never seemed quite right/never seemed human'...this was in the mid-late 1960's before the MIB legend/myth was widespread.

In addition one Mothman attack was upon a blood courier/ambulance - a direct attack. When the matter was researched further, all of the women who sighted this creature at close range, or who were attacked by it, where in the middle of their menstrual cycle. This ties in with the late, L. Gardner's work on ancient star fire/demonic rituals and the like (only he advocated such).

Both men and women who had an encounter 'of the third kind' with the creature, ended up with strange burns and red/blood shot eyes/broken blood vessels - most injuries would not heal either (all with photographic evidence) - I would ask Dr. Smith; how many Sandhill Cranes have that effect on people?

Goats, chicken, dogs and other small animals were found dead with all of the blood sucked out of them - nearly 30 years before the Chupacabra story broke.....

Keep em coming LG
