Lightbulb The Hatch

Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Columbia abandoned hopes of taking their scheduled space walk Friday after a hatch refused to open..For nearly 2 hours they struggled to rotate the handle and release the hatch..The astronauts said something seemed to be jamming the latch..Finally ground control told them to forget it..Technicians are now looking at the cause of the delay..Space Shuttle abort modes were procedures by which the nominal launch of the NASA Space Shuttle could be terminated..There were 4 intact abort modes for the Space Shuttle..The Reaction Control System (RCS) was composed of 44 small liquid-fueled rocket thrusters.. The orbiter's 60-foot (18 m)-long payload bay, comprising most of the fuselage, could accommodate cylindrical payloads up to 15 feet (4.6 m) in diameter..Information declassified in 2011 showed that these measurements were chosen specifically to accommodate the KH-9 HEXAGON spy satellite operated by the National Reconnaissance Office..

Space Shuttle Endeavour Hatch..

STS-80 - Columbia brought with it 2 free floating satellites, both of which were on repeat visits to space-Although 2 spacewalks were planned for the mission, they were both canceled after problems with the airlock hatch prevented astronauts Tom Jones and Tammy Jernigan from exiting the orbiter-NASA began a tradition of playing music to astronauts during the Gemini program, which was first used to wake up a flight crew during Apollo 15..

Discovery STS-128-September 7 (Flight Day 11 – Hatch closure)-On flight day 11 the joint ISS/shuttle crews completed transfers and closed the hatches with the MPLM. Once the hatches were closed, the MPLM was deactivated, demated and berthed back in the payload bay of the space shuttle..The end of the crews work days saw the 2 crews say goodbye in a farewell ceremony and close the hatches between the shuttle and ISS.. Once the hatches were closed, the Pressurized Mating Adapter 2 was depressurized, in advance of undocking..September 9 (Flight Day 13 – End Of Mission Prep)-On flight day 13 the space shuttle crew began stowing items for landing-On flight day 15 at 19:47 EDT (23:47 UTC), Discovery started the de-orbit burn for landing at Edwards Air Force Base after its 2 landing attempts at Kennedy Space Center the previous day were waved off..September 11 (Flight Day 15 – Landing) Discovery touched down safely at 20:53 EDT...

18 July (Flight Day 11 – MPLM return, farewells/Hatch closure)-Atlantis STS-135 crew returned the MPLM back to Atlantis's payload bay on flight day 12, closed the hatches between the Space Station and the Shuttle and prepared for next day's undocking-Mission Specialist Magnus and Pilot Hurley working inside the cupola, un-berthed Raffaello at 10:48 UTC and moved it back to Atlantis's payload bay..The move was completed by around 11:48 UTC..Atlantis and Space Station crew members said their goodbyes and closed hatches between the two spacecraft at 14:28 UTC, ending se7en days, 21 hours, 41 minutes of joined docked operations..The windows were tinted with the same ink used to make American $$$$notes... ever watch Star Trek?..The crew guys that would go down to the planet with the main guys, the captain and the guy with the pointy ears, they always wore red shirts and they always got killed...
