Arrow The 27th Chess Olympiad

The official logo..

A Game of Shadows Chess Scene..
The 27th Chess Olympiad, organized by FIDE and comprising an open and a women's tournament, as well as several other events designed to promote the game of chess, took place between November 14 and December 2, 1986, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates..Once again, the Olympiad was marred by politics.. With the event being held in an Arab nation, Israel couldn't participate, being in an official state of war with several Arab countries..In protest Western European nations like Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands didn't come to Dubai.. Strong individual players like Viktor Korchnoi, Robert Hübner, and Eric Lobron also stayed away..Like the open event, the women's tournament was dominated by the Soviet Union..Your hedge needs trimming!..

Making plans for Nigel (1976)..

Miles was an only child, born 23 April 1955 in Edgbaston, a suburb of Birmingham, and attended King Edward's School, Birmingham..John Denis Martin Nunn (born 25 April 1955 in London) is an English chess grandmaster, a 3-time world champion in chess problem solving, a chess writer and publisher, and a mathematician..Jonathan Simon "Jon" Speelman (born 2 October 1956) was educated at Worcester College, Oxford, where he studied mathematics..Glenn Curtis Flear (born 12 February 1959 in Leicester, England) is a British chess grandmaster now living in Montpellier, France author of several books, some on chess openings and sum er on the endgame..Murray Graham Chandler (born 4 April 1960, Wellington, New Zealand) is a chess grandmaster who has played internationally for NZ..One curiosity is his lifetime score of 2 wins, no draws, no losses against Garry Kasparov. One win was in the World Under-16 Championship in 1976, and the other in a simultaneous display in 1985..I've barely noticed your absence..Then again I'm knee-deep in research..

Short was born 1 June 1965 in Leigh, Lancashire..He grew up in Atherton, going to the St Philip's Primary School on Bolton Old Road.. He studied at the independent Bolton School and Leigh College.. He was a member both of Atherton Chess Club, which was founded by his father, David, and later of Bolton Chess Club, which had initially rejected him, aged se7en, for being too young..A chess prodigy, Short first attracted significant media attention, as a 10-year-old, by defeating Viktor Korchnoi in a simultaneous exhibition..He was awarded the grandmaster title in 1984, aged nineteen—becoming the youngest grandmaster in the world at that time..Short's assaults on the World Chess Championship title began in earnest in 1985..All the while verging on a decisive breakthrough in the single most important case of my career, perhaps of all time... all my instruction been for naught?..You still read the official statement and believe it.. It’s a game, dear man, a shadowy game..We’re playing cat and mouse, the professor and I..Cloak and dagger..Evidence of deep penetrating wounds into each ocular orbit, entering into the cranial cavity..I agree, it's not my best disguise, but I had to make do!..
