Koningsdag or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander..The vrijmarkt (literally 'free market') is a nationwide flea market, at which many people sell their used goods..It is also an opportunity for "orange madness" or oranjegekte, a kind of frenzy named for the national colour..Koningsdag is also celebrated in Aruba, CuraƧao, and Sint Maarten, constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands..

Eindhoven has grown from a little town in 1232 to one of the biggest cities in the Netherlands..Much of its growth is due to Philips, DAF Trucks and Brabantia..A big fire in 1554 destroyed 75% of the houses but by 1560 these had been rebuilt with the help of William I of Orange..There are two museums dedicated to the major topics of the city's industrial heritage: the DAF Museum has a collection of DAF cars and the Philips Gloeilampenfabriekje anno 1891 (across the street from the Kempenland) documents the early lightbulb industry..Eindhoven grew into an industrial town with factories for textile weaving, cigar manufacturing, match making and hat making... Most of these industries disappeared again after World War II, though..The villages and city that make up modern Eindhoven were originally built on sandy elevations..On 23 January 2008, a referendum to elect a mayor was held in Eindhoven..The city has a population of 223,220 in January 2015, making it the 5th-largest municipality of the Netherlands and the largest of North BraBant...

The Order of the Netherlands Lion was until recently awarded upon eminent individuals from all walks of life, including generals, ministers of the crown, mayors of large towns, professors and leading scientists, industrialists. high ranking civil servants, presiding judges and renowned artists..The Order is typically awarded each year on the Monarch's official birthday..The badge of the Order is a blue-enamelled, white enamel-bordered Maltese Cross, in gilt for the officers and above, in silver for knights and members..It could therefore be considered the Dutch equivalent of the Order of the Bath... telephone exchange put him through to the British Museum quickly enough, but the operator there nearly drove him frantic..I've had a long talk, too, with the incredible old woman who smokes cigars...
