The freeholder of most of the properties is Earl Cadogan, a multi-billionaire whose family has owned the land for several hundred years..As with many properties in prime central London areas, many of the apartments in Cadogan Square are unoccupied for a large part of the year...He was born the son of William Gerald Charles Cadogan, 7th Earl Cadogan and known as Viscount Chelsea before inheriting the title of Earl Cadogan on the death of his father on 4 July 1997.. He was educated at Eton College.. He is a first cousin of His Highness the Aga Khan..Lord Cadogan's heir, Viscount Chelsea, lives at the family's Snaigow estate in Scotland.. Lord Chelsea was educated at St David's College, Llandudno, and then served with the RAF in the first Gulf war..Arnold Bennet lived at number 75 during the 1920s..During the First World War he became Director of Propaganda for France at the Ministry of Information.



Knightsbridge is an exclusive residential and retail district in central London, south of Hyde Park..To the north of the area, is the Hyde Park Barracks of the Household Cavalry, with a distinctive 33 storey tower by Sir Basil Spence. The Royalty and Diplomatic Protection Department is based in Walton Street.. Two men died and six other people were injured after part of a balcony collapsed in west London..Railings on the balcony of a building at Cadogan Square, Knightsbridge, gave way at about 10:00 GMT..The men who died are believed to be of Polish origin and had been delivering sofas to the property..8 people were treated for injuries, one man died at the scene and the other in hospital, London Ambulance Service said..Scotland Yard said: "At this early stage it is believed that a number of sofas were being delivered to the address - which was under renovation - prior to the railings on the balcony giving way"..A neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, told BBC News: "They were trying to pull a couch up to the first-floor apartment with ropes.. Was apparently too heavy...
