Lightbulb Mock Turtles

The Mock Turtles are a Manchester based indie rock band, formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester in 1985, who enjoyed some success in the early 1990s. Their song "Can You Dig It?" which was released in 1991, charted in the UK top 20 in 1991 and again in 2003..The name came about after they were asked for a name for a song for the B-side so that the sleeve art could be produced. Martin Coogan had been watching The Warriors which featured the rallying call, "Can you dig it?".. The name came first and then the band went off to write the song..It reached No. 18 in the UK Singles Charts in 1991.. It remains their only single ever to chart in the top 40...

A bas-relief from Angkor Wat, Cambodia, shows Samudra manthan-Vishnu in the center and his turtle Avatar Kurma below..Among Ptah's many creatures, Shetw (Tortoise, Turtle) was neither especially remarkable nor esteemed. Though excluded from lists of animal offerings to the deities, there are nevertheless great quantities of turtle and tortoise bones associated with archaeology at the great ceremonial complex at Heirakonpolis in Upper Egypt. This may suggests that sacrifices of Chelonians served some ritual or liturgical purpose within the ancient Egyptian ceremonial system...In ancient Mesopotamia, the turtle was associated with the god Ea and was used on kudurrus as a symbol of Ea.. The heron and the turtle is an Ancient Sumerian story that has survived to this day..The tortoise is one of the "4 Fabulous Animals", the most prominent beasts of China. These animals govern the 4 points of the compass, with the Black Tortoise the ruler of the north, symbolizing endurance, strength, and longevity.. The tortoise and the tiger are the only real animals of the four, although the tortoise is depicted with supernatural features..In Sufism the hatching and return of baby turtles to the sea is a symbol for returning to G through G's guidance..In Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, the turtle is a prominent figure. Named Maturin, the turtle is one of the twelve guardians of the beams which hold up the dark tower...There is a character called the Mock Turtle in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland..For alchemists, the tortoise symbolizes chaos, or massa confusa... Friar, you would not strike a fellow woman of the cloth?..No, no, I wouldn't. In fact, I'll help you pack for your journey..It's interesting to hear you say that...
